To be fair, download and event only content (known as DLC) has affected pretty much the entire VG industry, Pokemon is just one series that abuses the DLC aspect to no end, at least Nintendo doesn't charge money for putting event content in our games, like Capcom has to their games, charging people for downloading DLC into their games.
Yeah, if you consider movie tickets in Japan free. Either way, they probably don't "charge" because everything's preprogrammed.

So, a lot of the World Tournament trainers are event only?

Where did you get that information, that the world tournament is yet ANOTHER pointless distribution event.
Serebii updated with it today, even stating that some of the trainers we've already had confirmed are event-only.

On the plus side, if these are event-only and the data aren't in the game, essentially handling like DLC (musicals and C-Gear skins are essentially that), then it may explain the use of really outdated art work. They simply haven't finished with their designs yet, and will release them when the trainers are up for download (obviously, with the images shown as beta). Hopefully, this isn't just wishful speculation as I can't see any logical reason that they'd make these guys released through distribution methods.
Except that the sprite shown for Steven was entirely new. Unless they're working on the characters that don't have DS-era sprites first (See: Hoenn characters).

I would be delighted if they gave Steven a new design, although his old one is good as well :) But I'm going to be really sad if he's event only...

I'm really curious to see Ohmura's take on the older characters (Hilbert and Hilda included!). I think he has a very unique style to him, and I can already see the difference between his version of N and Sugimori's version of N.

I would too, it would be a shame if I was forced to hack the game just to fight against my favorite Pre-Unova Gym leaders again with my Gen 5 team (and I hope they don't change Driftveil Gym because Clay is my favorite Unova Gym leader), I would have to start the game where they originated in and use my old, pre-Gen 5 teams to fight against them again, and I'm not in the mood to play through Platinum or Soul Silver through their entirety again just to fight my favorite Gym Leaders there...

At least there will hopefully be Gym rematches with the Unova Gym leaders in BW2

He's referred to as "the champion from BW". That can be taken many ways, but literally it means he's no longer champion. And it would make sense if he isn't, he wanted to resign in BW, and every characters ambitions/goals have been fulfilled, so its logical if his resignation did happen.

Hopefully, the title of Champion is now in the hands of Hilda/Hilbert, as it would make sense considering they defeated N who himself defeated Alder. The theory that Akuroma may be Champion is also pretty interesting.

Either way, I think that a new Champion is best at this point.

Technically, only N completed the Elite 4 challenge. Hilbert/Hilda's challenge was interrupted when the castle shot out of the ground and were forced to fight their dragon. This forced a switch in your team, as well as you being healed by N to battle him.

True, but maybe the E4 challenge post-game then will be treated as canon, as us having to locate the Sages for Looker should honestly be canon as well. Perhaps some post game content like that can be considered canon, while others (Kyurem encounter) can not. Though, he could have simply stepped down without a challenge at all as well.

I agree about the new champion part.

Akuroma as the champion would be interesting. It would also be interesting if Hilbert and Hilda are the champions, like if they have them as version exclusive champions (Hilbert in B2, Hilda in W2 (and if that's the case, I'll be buying W2 :crush:)).

One thing I would really hate is if Black and White reappeared, if they had the names Hilbert and Hilda. On the other hand, it would be great if the sequels retconned those stupid names away. Either way, it would be great to see them.

Yes, their English names are unforunate. Blair and Whitlea would've been better, in my opinion. At least the names Hilbert and Hilda have cool meanings?
