I've been thinking about this for a while. Line ups for Elite 4 tend to repeat a lot of the same types like Fighting, Psychic, Ghost, Dark, Ice and Dragon. In a way this could make sense if you want to interpret those types as being more "advanced", rare or hard to master relative to the other types with the Elite 4 being Elite for their mastery of difficult types. But I wonder; what if we had a line up of the Elite 4 that uses the 3 starter types + Electric? The Elite 4 with this line up would be Elite because they show complete mastery over the basics that every trainer experiences. It's kind of like how in an action RPG you start with a starting weapon and naturally swap it out for one that's better or more suited for your play style latter on. But the Elite 4 here would be those kinds of people who have mastered the basics and the game so much they can beat it with the starting weapon to show true mastery. Of course there is the elephant in the room of them being walled by dragon types but if they have moves and Pokemon that are there to make things difficult for dragon types it would go far to show why they are the strongest trainers in that region.
What do you guys think? Could a starter type line up for an Elite 4 work? We have had some odd types in the Elite 4 in the past like Bug and Poison. Not to mention we have had Fire and Water specialists there before but not with the other starter types.
