MATURE: Dark Shadow Rises!!! (MHA fanfic) (COMPLETE!!!)

You guys might have noticed that I haven’t been active on Bulbagarden in a while. That’s because I’ve started to get interested in another awesome series; My Hero Academia! Probably the greatest shonen series since Dragon Ball, I quickly became immersed in its story and characters. Out of all the characters, my personal favorite is Fumikage Tokoyami, the moody Class 1A student who has a demon living inside of him named Dark Shadow! This story takes place during the Forest Training Camp arc of the manga, in which the villains aim to capture Katsuki Bakugo. But after seeing Tokoyami lose control of Dark Shadow, they decide to take him too. My story examines what would happen if the villains made off with Tokoyami instead of Bakugo. If you’re a fan of this series, you might enjoy this story. If you’re not, you should still check it out.

CAUTION: This story contains strong language, copious amounts of blood, and occultism. Reader’s discretion is definitely advised.

Chapter 1


Izuku Midoriya, Shoto Todoroki, and Mezo Shoji tried their best to save their two classmates, Katsuki Bakugo, and Fumikage Tokoyami, from the clutches of the sinister League of Villains, but in the end, it was all for nothing. While Shoji was able to free Bakugo, the villains made off with Tokoyami.

Izuku: We...couldn’t...save him....
Todoroki: Calm down, Midoriya. At least we were able to save Bakugo.
Bakugo: Deku, stop playing in the dirt and get up!!!
Shoji: I don’t know if that’s going to be possible. It looks like Midoriya’s legs are broken!
Bakugo: Typical fucking Deku, always getting himself hurt at the worst times!
Todoroki: What is wrong with you?!? We just saved your life and this is how you thank us?!??
Bakugo: Shut up, Half-and-Half bastard!
Shoji: [slaps both of them with his tentacles] How about you both shut up?!!??

Their teacher, Aizawa, arrives with medical services. The whole forest has been cordoned off and declared a disaster area. In particular, the area destroyed by Dark Shadow’s rampage is quietly brushed aside and blamed on a stray villain attack.

Speaking of Dark Shadow, let’s see what Tokoyami is up to...

At the moment, his unconscious body is dragged through a portal into the hideout of the League of Villains. A guy in a mask known as Mr. Compress and a man with scars on his face named Dabi stand before their leaders, Shigaraki Tomura and Kurogiri, awaiting their reward for bringing their captive back alive.

Dabi: Here’s your captive, boss! Now do we get our reward?!?
[Tokoyami’s lifeless body tumbles out of the portal]
Shigaraki: What is the meaning of this? I told you to bring me Katsuki Bakugo!!!
Dabi: Yeeeaaaahhhh....about that....we kinda....lost him.
Shigaraki: YOU WHAT???!!!!!?!!!! I’M GOING TO RIP YOUR EYE-
Kurogiri: Calm down, sir. Let me deal with them. As he was saying, we are very disappointed in you. You’ve failed your mission...again....
Compress: Don’t be so hasty, sir. We can still use this one. You see, his Quirk is one of the most powerful I’ve ever seen! It was able to singlehandedly crush Moonfish!
Shigaraki: Bah! Moonfish was a lesser villain. Anyone and their grandma could have beaten him.
Compress: You don’t understand! This boy’s quirk is not like any other. It becomes stronger in the darkness. I myself saw him struggling to keep it under control! With a power like that, we could take over the whole city!
Shigaraki: Interesting. I must know more about this student. Who is he, anyway?
Compress: Apparently, his name is Fumikage Tokoyami. He’s a first year student in the Hero Course at UA. He finished third in the Sports Festival a few weeks ago.
Shigaraki: Ah, now I remember him. He’s the one with that living shadow inside of him, right?
Compress: Yes, sir!
Toga Himiko: He’s really cute, too! [licks her blood-stained knife] I wonder what he’ll taste like…
Kurogiri: He would make a great asset to the League, although it may be harder to persuade him than our original target...
Shigaraki: When he wakes up, we will question him. Go put him in the brig for now!
Dabi: Yes, sir!

Before they can, Tokoyami suddenly wakes up. He takes this time to observe the unfamiliar area around him. Several creepy looking individuals glare at him, some with smiles, and others with frowns.

Tokoyami: Wh-what is this? Where am I? Th-this isn’t the camp...
Shigaraki: No, boy, it isn’t.
Tokoyami: If this is some kind of prank, Aizawa, it isn’t funny!
Kurogiri: How cute, he thinks his teacher is playing a trick on him!
[all of the villains share a hearty laugh]
Shigaraki: Child, I can assure you that this is no prank. We are the League of Villains!
Tokoyami: League of Villains?!?
Shigaraki: Yes, allow us to introduce ourselves. I’m Shigaraki Tomura, the second-in-command. This is my lackey, Kurogiri.
Tokoyami: No, I know him. He’s the one who attacked us at USJ!
Kurogiri: Oh, good! You recognized me! USJ is one of my proudest achievements.
Dabi: My name’s Dabi! After seeing Hero Killer Stain on TV, it inspired me to join the League of Villains!
Toga: Hiiiii!!!!! I’m Toga! What’s your blood type, young man?
Tokoyami: That is none of your concern!
Toga: Awww, you’re no fun!
Kurogiri: Patience, Toga. Your time to kill will be here soon.
Twice: They call me Twice. You look kind of cool! I hate you!
Shigaraki: Pay no mind to him. He has no idea what he’s talking about.
Twice: Oh yes I do.....do I?
Tokoyami: This is all very amusing, but I’m afraid I must be going now.

He heads for the exit, but it is blocked by a man with a scaly appearance.

Spinner: Sorry, but I’m not letting you go anywhere! My name’s Spinner! I was inspired...heh heh...by the great Hero Killer Stain. You should really stay a while and get to know us better.....

Spinner ties Tokoyami to a chair and places him in front of all the villains. They all point and laugh at him.

How am I going to get myself out of this one?, Tokoyami thinks to himself....

Chapter 2


At a hospital close to the training camp, young Midoriya lies in bed after being out cold for some time. He notices a gift basket with his mom’s handwriting on it, but before he can inspect it, his classmates start crowding into the room.

Denki Kaminari: Hey, Midoriya! Looks like you’re awake!
Izuku: Huh?
Kaminari: Have you been watching TV? The media’s all over the school!
Rikido Sato: Yeah, even worse than back in the spring.
Minoru Mineta: [holds up a melon] Here’s a melon for you! We all pitched in!
Izuku: Is everyone from Class 1A here?
Tenya Iida: No, not everybody. Jiro and Hagakure are still unconscious, ever since they got knocked out by that gas. And Yaoyorozu suffered a serious head wound. She only just regained consciousness. Besides them...
Ochaco Uraraka: All of us came.
Todoroki: Minus Bakugo...
Izuku: Huh? Why’s he not here?
Iida: When I asked him if he wanted to come, he told me to “fuck off”.
Izuku: Yep, that sounds like Kacchan.
Ochaco: And, of course, Tokoyami is still missing.
Mina Ashido: Ochaco, that’s harsh!
Izuku: Recently, All Might told me something. About how sometimes, we just can’t reach some people who need saving, so we’ve gotta do our best to save those we can reach. But I COULD reach him!! All I had to do was save him!! My quirk...is built just for that...but then it turned out like Aizawa-sensei said it would.
Eijiro Kirishima: Then let’s go save him now!
All: HUH????
Kirishima: Todoroki and I...we actually came by yesterday. Then we ran into All Might and the police. They were talking to Yaoyorozu. She told them that a student from Class 1B helped her put a transmitter on one of the villains.
Iida: So you’re saying that she could make another one just like it for us.....[sudden anger] NO!!! WE OUGHTA LEAVE THIS MATTER TO THE PROS! IT’S NOT OUR PLACE TO INTERFERE, YOU FOOL!
Kirishima: YOU THINK I DON’T KNOW THAT?!!??? Tokoyami may not have been the most prominent student in our class, but he’s still our friend!!!!
Tsuyu Asui: Calm down, Kirishima. We get that you’re a hothead, but in this case, Iida is correct.
Kirishima: I KNOW HE’S RIGHT!!! YOU ALL ARE!!!! Midoriya, I know you think this is your fault, but it’s all of our faults for not protecting our classmates well enough!
Mina: So you’re gonna go get this signal-tracker thingy from Yaoyorozu...and follow it...to go save Tokoyami by yourselves?
Todoroki: The villains said they were after Bakugo, but then they changed their plans to include Tokoyami too. Since we saved Bakugo, we can’t be sure that they won’t try to kill Tokoyami. Kirishima and I will go.
Iida: Yoouuuuuu.....HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING!!!!
Shoji: Hang on, calm down. I get it. Kirishima’s pain over not being able to do anything. This is kind of all my fault. Tokoyami wouldn’t have gone on a rampage if I hadn’t lost my arm. When they took him away, I kind of felt the same way as Kirishima. Still, this is no time to let our emotions get the better of us.
Yuga Aoyama: Let’s just leave it to All Might.
Tsuyu: It doesn’t matter how righteous our feelings are. If we start another fight...if we break the law...then we’re no better than the villains!

Elsewhere, Pro Heroes, All Might, Endeavor, Best Jeanist, and Edgeshot, all prepare to save Tokoyami from the League of Villains.


At the same time, the League of Villains are trying all sorts of methods of persuasion on poor Tokoyami.

Shigaraki: Won’t you join me?
Tokoyami: No.
Shigaraki: Come on, pretty please?
Tokoyami: No.
Kurogiri: Damn it! This would be so much easier if those idiots had captured Bakugo like you ordered them to!!!
Shigaraki: I know! I’m just trying to stick with what we’ve got!
Toga: Shhhh!!!! Quiet!! The UA principal’s talking on TV!!!
Kurogiri: What’s this? Perhaps they are trying to apologize to the public for what’s happened.
[The principal is on TV with a surprisingly well-dressed Aizawa, along with some of the other faculty, speaking about the Training Camp incident]
Nezu: I regret to announce that our unpreparedness was responsible for the harm that came to 27 of our first-year students. Though ours is an institution for heroes in training, we were nonetheless negligent in our defenses against villains, and we understand that this has made many of you uneasy. We apologize for this deeply and sincerely. There is absolutely no excuse for what’s occurred.
Reporter: Question from NHA. This is the fourth time this year that villains have attacked UA students. Given that some were actually injured this time, what explanation have you given to their understandably worried families? In addition, can you please tell us what measures you have taken in order to prevent such occurrences from happening again?
Nezu: We’ve increased surveillance of the surrounding areas and revamped our security system. And we’ve explained to the parents that our strong stance against villainy will guarantee the students’ safety.

People watching the news on big screens downtown are shocked and appalled by what Nezu has been saying.

Man with big horns: A lot of good that did them.
Man with three eyes: What’s that fool even saying?
Woman with no eyes: That school is dangerous! I’m glad I don’t let my kids go there!

But no one is more aghast at the news than Shigaraki Tomura...

Shigaraki: Unbelievable!! How come everyone’s blaming the heroes?!!?? Their only crime was doing too little, too late!!
Tokoyami: It’s their job to protect people, but everyone screws up now and then, right?
Shigaraki: Did I ask you to speak?!? Shut up!!!
Spinner: The minute that protecting people started coming with a paycheck, heroes stopped being heroes. This is what Stain has taught us!!!!
Shigaraki: In this society, where rules are everything, people aren’t cheering for the losers, telling them to fight another day. They’re blaming them. Our war is based on a few simple questions. What is a Hero? What is justice? Is this what society’s really supposed to be like? Once we get people thinking about this kind of stuff, that’s when we’ve won.
Tokoyami: No, you haven’t won yet. All Might is coming...he will save me...like he does with everyone else...
Shigaraki: That is where you are wrong, child. He may be the Symbol of Peace, but he won’t be around forever. I’ve heard rumors that he is slowly losing his powers...but they’re just rumors, and rumors are hardly ever true.
Tokoyami: That isn’t possible...it can’t be...
Shigaraki: As I said, it’s just a rumor. So, don’t worry, your precious All Might may end up saving you after all. But that’s not going to happen, since the heroes have no idea where you are! As long as you’re here, however, let’s ask you some questions. Kurogiri, interrogate him!
Kurogiri: You finished third in the Sports Festival, correct?
Tokoyami: Yes, that is correct.
Kurogiri: Do you believe that you could have done better?
Tokoyami: I believe so, if it weren’t for Bakugo. He took advantage of Dark Shadow’s weakness to light and used it to beat me.
Kurogiri: So, you say that your quirk is weak to light? How would you like it if we tested this out?
Tokoyami: [gulps]
Shigaraki: Hmm, that’s not such a bad idea...Let’s try it!
Tokoyami: Please don’t...
Shigaraki: Relax, this won’t hurt at all.
Tokoyami: I’m warning you! You have no idea what you’re dealing with!
Kurogiri: Would you prefer it if we killed you instead?
Tokoyami: Fine. Dark Shadow, can you come out, please?
[A dark shape slithers out of Tokoyami’s abdomen. This is Dark Shadow! All of the villains gasp with delight upon seeing it.]
Shigaraki: So, this is your quirk? He’s a lot more impressive in person. I think this shadow deserves some time in the SPOTLIGHT!!!!
[Dabi shines a flashlight on Dark Shadow, making him hiss in derision]
Shadow: Get....back.....
Tokoyami: Stop it! You’re hurting him!!!
Shigaraki: I know. But I don’t care! How about some fire?!?
[Spinner blasts Dark Shadow with a flamethrower]
Kurogiri: This is wonderful! Keep it going!
Tokoyami: I said....STOP IT!!!!!!!

In a bit of rage, Tokoyami burst out of his restraints and attacks Dabi with his fists! He grabs the flashlight out of his hands and throws it off to the side. Then, he turns his attention to Spinner. He kicks the reptilian man in the nuts and blasts him with the flamethrower.

Spinner: AGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! SOMEONE HELP MEEEEE!!!!!! I’M BURNING UP!!!!!!!
Dabi: Hey! Burning things up is my job!
Kurogiri: Someone stop him! We can’t afford to lose any more villains!
[Twice tackles Tokoyami while Toga throws a bucket of water on Spinner]
Shigaraki: That’s enough! Twice, get off of Tokoyami!
Twice: No way! Alright, fine.
Toga: Awww, there’s no blood left over for me to taste!
Shigaraki: [chuckles] Well done, boy. You’ve passed the test. You are now an official member of the League of Villains!
Tokoyami: I’m no villain!
Shigaraki: You just attacked a man with a flamethrower. That sounds pretty villainous to me.
Twice: I agree! Such hatred! Such violence! That stuff makes me sick!
Kurogiri: Are you sure about this, sir? He could just as easily turn on us and report our forms of torture to the heroes.
Shigaraki: Believe me, Kurogiri, there’s no way the heroes will be taking him back after this.
[knock knock]
Toga: Oh, boy! A knock-knock joke! Who’s there?!?
Voice: This is the Kamino Pizza delivery boy!
Shigaraki: I didn’t order any pizza, did you?
Kurogiri: No, I would have authorized it.

The door breaks down, revealing the voice to be none other than All Might! Accompanying him are Gran Torino and Kamui Woods.

AM: There’s no escape for you, League of Villains....Why, you ask? BECAUSE WE ARE HERE!!!
Compress: It’s All Might! Right after the press conference, though? They must have timed this!
AM: There’s more than just us three! Endeavor’s out there, along with some other skilled heroes, and the police! You’re surrounded! As for you, young Tokoyami, you’re safe now!!!!
Tokoyami: Whew! What a relief...
[All Might leaves with Tokoyami in his arms]
Shigaraki: After all of our scheming and plotting, the final boss goes and shows up on our doorstep! Lucky for us, we’re not the only ones you’ve gotta worry about, heroes. Kurogiri, bring them all over to play!!!!

At that moment, an entire army of Nomu busts through the back of the secret hideout!

Kamui: There’s too many of them!! I can’t restrain them all!
GT: I’ll deal with those punks! You should escort All Might and Tokoyami out of here!!!
Kamui: Yes, sir! Come on, All Might, let’s go!!!
Kurogiri: Sir, why are you letting them escape with our captive?
Shigaraki: Trust me. They won’t get too far. I had a feeling that the heroes would show up, so I informed the big boss...


AM: We’re almost at the rendezvous point, young Tokoyami! You are safe!!!
Kamui: Unidentified villain directly ahead of us, sir!
AM: [gasp] It can’t be!!! Not him!!!!!
Tokoyami: You know that guy?!?
AM: Do I know him?!!?? Of course I do!!! He’s my arch-enemy, ALL FOR ONE!!!!!
AFO: We meet again, All Might...

Chapter 3

AFO: How nice of you to drop by, old friend.
AM: Of all the times you could have returned, why did you come back now?!?
AFO: Isn’t it obvious? In case you haven’t been paying attention, the public has recently started to lose trust in you heroes. This seemed like the perfect time for us to strike.
Kamui: So...you were behind that attack on the training camp, weren’t you?!? Once we get our hands on you, you’ll wish you’d never come back!
AM: Stay back, young Kamui. I will deal with All For One myself. Could you please escort young Tokoyami back to the school for me?
Kamui: Yes, sir!


Meanwhile, Midoriya, Iida, Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Kirishima sneak through the dark streets of Kamino. They took extra precautions and disguised themselves to avoid suspicion. Even without a map, they still have a good idea of where to go by following the trails of smoke in the sky.

Izuku: I think the explosions are getting louder.
Momo: Which means we’re getting closer to the action.
Iida: I still don’t see what this is going to accomplish. This will only get us in more trouble!
Todoroki: I’m just worried that my dad will find us out here.
Kirishima: Come on, you guys! Stop being pussies! We’ll find Tokoyami before you know it!

Then, they see Kamui Woods rushing by, with Tokoyami in his arms.

Momo: Hey, did you guys see that?!?
Izuku: I guess we found him, Kirishima!
Kirishima: I AM A PSYCHIC!

They run to catch up with Kamui, who is shocked to see them out at night, along with Tokoyami.

Kamui: What are you kids doing out here? You’re not supposed to be outside!!!
Kirishima: We were tired of just standing around doing nothing, so we decided to try saving Tokoyami ourselves!
Kamui: Well, you’re a little too late for that, because I’m bringing him back to the school. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll follow me.
Izuku: Are you alright, Tokoyami?
Tokoyami: [coughs] I...I’ve been better...Please....forgive me...for what I’ve done...
Izuku: Forgive you? What for?
Tokoyami: I’ve...done bad things...I’ve hurt so many people....
Iida: Don’t say those things, Tokoyami! You haven’t hurt anyone!
Tokoyami: Yes....I have....I hurt Midoriya....I hurt those villains....but worst of all....[suddenly blanks out]
Izuku: Wait! Tell us more! Don’t fall asleep now!
Shadow: [hissing] Leave us alone.....
Momo: This can’t be good....

A giant shadowy claw rises from Tokoyami’s consciousness. It breaks pieces off of nearby buildings and tries throwing them at Izuku and the others. Tokoyami’s eyes open, glowing red. Then, he surrounds himself with the same monstrous form of Dark Shadow that attacked the forest before.

Iida: Everyone, run away!!! Tokoyami’s losing control again!!!!
Kamui: Yaoyorozu, can you create a giant shield to protect us?
Momo: I’m not sure. It’s been a while since I last ate. I don’t think I have enough energy.
Todoroki: You have to try!!!!

Before she can do anything, however, Dark Shadow attacks Kamui with his claws, dragging him over to where he has possession of Tokoyami.

Kamui: Go on without me, children!!! Tell everyone what’s happened!!!! AGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!


AM: TEXAAAAAASSSSSSSS.....SMAAAASSHHH!
AFO: Impressive...but it seems you’ve lost a bit of your luster since we last battled. Could it be that you aren’t as strong as you once were?
AM: That’s none of your concern, you fiend!!! Now, get a taste of my DELAWAAAAAAARRREEEEE.....SMAAAAA-
AFO: Wait! What’s that over there?
[All For One points to a giant shadow that seems to be destroying nearby buildings]
AM: No....it can’t be....
AFO: Whatever it is, it’s very powerful! I must check it out for myself!
AM: Don’t! It’ll rip you apart like it did to the forest!!!

But it is too late. All For One races off to see the devastation. Once he gets, his jaw drops at the sight of Dark Shadow beating the crap out of Kamui.

AFO: I’ve never seen anything like this before....such brute force...such energy...if it were to fall under our hands, we would become unstoppable!!!
AM [runs up behind him] HEY, GET DOWN!!!!!

All Might tackles All For One, but then, All For One accidentally triggers his quirk. A giant explosion is created that lights up the night sky, and destroys everything in the immediate area around it.


When the smoke clears, it becomes obvious that there is a giant four mile wide crater in place of the industrial area that was there before. The first emergency crews arrive by sunrise, and both All Might and All For One, along with Kamui Woods, are taken to the hospital. But poor Tokoyami remains undiscovered.....

That afternoon, Aizawa-sensei calls for an emergency meeting with his students. He has some terrible news to tell them.

Aizawa: Class, before we get to the main event, I’d like to address the five of you who ventured out into the city last night. Midoriya, Todoroki, Iida, Yaoyorozu, and Kirishima; if these weren’t such hard times for our school, I would have been forced to expel you. However, during this crisis, the safety of our students is of utmost importance to us, so I won’t be doing that.
[The five troublesome students sigh in relief]
Iida: So, what is the reason you called us all here, sensei?
Aizawa: [sigh] This isn’t going to be easy for me....but...I’m afraid it’s about your classmate, Tokoyami.
[A hush falls among the classroom]
Aizawa: The emergency crews.....couldn’t locate him in the rubble...
Ochaco: Does that mean he’s...d-d-d-dead???
Aizawa: I’m afraid so....I’m so sorry.....

Aizawa breaks into tears, followed by the rest of his class.

Here is how all of the students felt:

Izuku: He was the first person that Tokoyami ever felt safe enough with to trust. He also feels that he is partly to blame for letting the villains capture him in the first place.
Shoji: Probably the one who feels the saddest of all. He knows that if he hadn’t lost one of his tentacles to Moonfish, then Tokoyami wouldn’t have gone on the rampage that made him a target for the villains. He was also the one who was closest to Tokoyami.
Ochaco: She always thought Tokoyami was kind of cool. Dark Shadow really seemed to like her, and she was the only one that Tokoyami would allow to pet him.
Iida: Tokoyami made a bad first impression on Iida on the first day by ignoring his commands to get off of the top of his desk. But, over time, he came to respect him, even if they never spoke with each other that much.
Tsuyu: She was also rather close with Tokoyami after having been paired up with him in a couple of class assignments.
Mashirao Ojiro: He spent some time talking to Tokoyami and Shoji at the pool only a day before they travelled to the camp. Knowing that he had been one of the last people to ever have a conversation with him unsettled him.
Momo: She was Tokoyami’s first opponent at the Sports Festival, and was defeated by him with little effort. However, she also gained a lot of respect for him.
Kaminari: He couldn’t remember if Tokoyami had ever interacted with him.
Mina Ashido: Tokoyami’s second opponent in the Festival. Apart from that, Tokoyami never really cared much for her, as she was always very gossipy, and sometimes asked him questions about his life that he wasn’t comfortable with.
Kyoka Jiro: Tokoyami frequently approached her during lunch hours to ask if he could borrow her death metal albums. She always said yes, even if it sometimes meant that she wouldn’t be getting them back for a few weeks.
Kirishima: He felt guilty after his idea of rescuing Tokoyami failed.
Todoroki: Same as above. He also gained a lot of respect for Tokoyami after seeing him in action during the Cavalry Battle.
Koji Koda: Became good friends with Tokoyami after they were partnered up at USJ.
Sato: Hardly interacted with each other, but Tokoyami had asked him on a couple of occasions to make an apple pie for him, which he more than happily obliged.
Sero Hanta: He never spoke with Tokoyami, but had always thought highly of him.
Minoru Mineta: Tokoyami usually avoided him, due to his perverted antics, but was willing to trust him because he was friends with Shoji.
Toru Hagakure: Tokoyami never really noticed her, but he accidentally elbowed her breasts on one occasion (which did not end very well for him).
Bakugo: Defeated Tokoyami at the Sports Festival. Although he didn’t show it, even he felt a little bit sad about his death.

The next day, the class holds a funeral for Tokoyami. Since they never found the body, they put his Hero cape in the casket. Aizawa vows that he will never again lose one of his own students....

Chapter 4

Later that week, All Might calls for a press conference with the media. The news reporters and photographers are very surprised when an emaciated man appears instead of the muscular hero.

AM: Good morning, everyone. I’m sorry if you don’t recognize me, but, I am All Might.
Crowd: WHAAAAAAAA??!!!????
AM: That’s right. You may recall that a few years ago, I was severely injured in a fight with my arch-enemy. But that wasn’t the whole story. I lost a significant portion of my stomach during surgery, and the doctors told me that from that point onward, I could only use my powers for up to three hours a day. Not wanting to disappoint my public, we decided to hide this information from the media. Over the past few months, however, the amount of time I can use my powers has diminished rapidly, and, after that battle I had earlier this week, they are now gone completely. That’s why, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement as a Pro Hero. I will still be teaching at UA for the time being, but my days of Hero work are effectively over.
[gasps from the crowd]
Reporter: But who will take over your position as Top Hero?
AM: The only logical choice...my colleague Endeavor is now the Top Hero in Japan.
[All Might leaves the stage, followed by mobs of reporters]

After the destruction of their previous hideout, the League of Villains have escaped police custody and relocated to a secluded warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Without their boss, All For One, to guide them, there is lots of uncertainty amongst the members.

Dabi: Who will lead us now that our master is in prison?
Shigaraki: He bestowed the position upon yours truly.
Spinner: You??? You can’t lead us!!! We need someone more experienced in combat, like myself! My hero, Stain, would agree.
Dabi: He doesn’t even know you!!! Besides, you’d make a stupid leader! I’m the most qualified out of all of us!
Kurogiri: Quiet!!!! Shigaraki is our new leader and that’s final! Now let him speak!!!
Shigaraki: Thank you for quieting them down, Kurogiri. Now, let’s get down to business. First off, I’m very disappointed in all of you. You let All Might get away.
Dabi: Hey, at least he ended up retiring.
Shigaraki: That’s not the point!!!! You were supposed to capture him and hand him over to All For One, who, in case you haven’t noticed, is now in jail!!!
Dabi: Oh...right.
Shigaraki: Uggghhhh...why do I surround myself with so many idiots???!!!!???
Kurogiri: Calm down. Take a deep breath. We’ll deal with your insubordinate followers later. Now, tell them your big surprise.
Shigarki: Ah, yes! Thanks for reminding me, Kurogiri. The heroes may have won that battle, however costly it might have been for them, but we gained the most from it! You see, while the emergency crews were scouring through the area of the explosion, I did some scavenging of my own, and look what I found in the rubble!!!!
[Shigaraki presses a button on his table, which causes a nearby wall to turn around and reveal a bacta tank containing a familiar body...]
Toga: Yay!!! It’s our little friend!!! You saved him, Shiggy!
Compress: But I thought he was killed in that explosion!
Shigaraki: That’s what all those moronic heroes thought, too! Since they couldn’t locate the body, which I stole, they just assumed he was dead. If I hadn’t found him and put him in our bacta tank, he certainly wouldn’t have lived much longer. By the way, Toga, call me “boss” from now on!
Toga: Okey-dokey, boss man!
Shigaraki: [sigh] Yes, I suppose that will do for now.
Dabi: Now that we have Tokoyami back in our possession, what do you intend on doing with him?
Shigaraki: Were you all watching the news coverage of that big battle a few days ago? The media didn’t bother mentioning it, but this boy’s Quirk went on a rampage again! Why don’t you show them what I’m talking about, Kurogiri?

Kurogiri pulls up a video of the battle between All For One and All Might. He skips ahead to a certain point of the video where it cuts to an aerial view. In the background, a giant dark mass can be seen forming. The camera then quickly zooms back in on the fight. At the point when All For One wanders away to investigate the shadow, the camera stays tightly focused on him. Immediately after All Might runs in from out of frame, Dark Shadow’s giant claw comes down on the two of them, triggering the explosion, at which point the feed cuts away to Endeavor’s battle with the Nomu.

Twice: Oh, now I see it....I didn’t see anything!
Kurogiri: Want me to play it again?
Shigaraki: Go ahead...
[Kurogir rewinds back to the claw crushing the two fighters. This time, he plays it in slow motion so they can see it better.]
Dabi: Hey, there it is!!! You gotta love how they cut away from it as soon as the claw appeared!
Compress: Didn’t I tell you all that this Quirk was powerful? Apparently, the news director thought so, too, because he got it off screen before any of the more “gruesome” details could be shown.
Kurogiri: It’s almost as if the media knows that this boy’s Quirk is dangerous. If the public found out, they’d probably be out for his head!
Shigaraki: Kurogiri, you’re a genius!!! That’s exactly what we need to say to get this boy on our side! Get him out of that tank! I have a few things I want to tell him!

Spinner releases Tokoyami from the bacta tank, and the bird boy lands on the hard ground with a THUMP!

Tokoyami: Ugh......what....where am I.....?
Shigaraki: Everyone, be quiet!!! I’ll handle the boy. [clears throat] Welcome back, Tokoyami...
Tokoyami: Not you people again.....what do you want with me...???
Shigaraki: We only want to help you. You are the only one who can bring justice back to this country. Sit down for a while. I wanna talk to you.
Tokoyami: [takes a seat] Alright. I’ll play your little game, but then I’m heading back to UA.
Shigaraki: Isn’t that precious? The boy still thinks that his friends will take him back. I’m afraid that they don’t want anything to do with you anymore.
Tokoyami: Eh? What do you mean?
Shigaraki: Well, for starters, they think that you’re dead!
Tokoyami: [jaw drop] They WHAAAAAT?!!??
Shigaraki: After your little rampage in the city, the emergency crews couldn’t find your body. Naturally, everyone assumed that you kicked the bucket. They even gave you a funeral and everything! But that’s not the best part. It seems that your “death” also had an emotional impact on All Might! He retired today!!!!
Tokoyami: No! This can’t be!!! Please tell me you’re all lying to me!!!!!
Kurogiri: Read it and weep, kid.
[He shows Tokoyami an article online about All Might’s retirement, along with an article about Tokoyami’s “death”)
Shigaraki: Look here! It even says that UA has scrubbed your name from their official database, so, as far as they’re concerned, you no longer exist...
Tokoyami: I...can’t believe this....all of my friends...they’ve forgotten about me....surely there has to be someone out there who knows what really happened!!!
Shigaraki: As a matter of fact, there is! Look at this video that we found of your “performance” in the city.

Shigaraki shows Tokoyami the video that Kurogiri showed them earlier. He makes sure to emphasize the part where the camera cuts away after Dark Shadow attacks All For One and All Might, playing it over and over again. As the video goes on, feelings of anger and rage begin to surge through Tokoyami.

Shigaraki: Now do you get the picture?
Tokoyami: So...they knew the whole time.....[eyes turn red with anger] YET THEY DIDN’T DO ANYTHING TO SAVE ME??????!!!!!!!??????
Kurogiri: Good...let the anger flow through your veins....
Tokoyami: AGGH...THEY’LL ALL....GAHH!!!!

At that point, Dark Shadow makes his appearance, completely surrounding Tokoyami with his shadowy energy. With a demonic expression on his face, Tokoyami, now under the total influence of his shadow’s powers, and speaking with a deep, sinister voice, turns to his captors.

Tokoyami: I....WILL...GET...REVENGE!!!!!!!!!!

Author’s note: Now that Tokoyami has turned evil, what dastardly things will he do to get revenge on those who wronged him? Stay tuned to find out!

As a fan of MHA, the concept of this fic is certainly interesting. However, I can't help but notice a rather large flaw in the story so far. If Fumikage wasn't found in the rubble, he would only be declared missing, not dead. Consequently, UA would actually put effort into finding him, which also means the League would have nothing to convince Fumikage to join them as opposed to him going back.

Chapter 5


On the outskirts of Tokyo’s metropolitan area, a local farmer notices his animals are running away from something. In the distance, a giant, shadowy shape approaches his property.

Farmer: Whoo-wee! That’s a big ol’ panther! [pulls out a shotgun] Don’t come any closer! I’ll use this thang!
Shadowy figure: KEEP.....AWAAAAAYYYYYY.....
Farmer: Wait...that ain’t no panther!!!!!

The shadow places its claws on the farmer and his animals, causing a big explosion! It then leaves the remains of the area to go wreak havoc in the city.

Back at UA, Principal Nezu has a board meeting with Aizawa, All Might, and the rest of the teachers.

Nezu: You’re probably wondering why I called you here.
Present Mic: Are you gonna give us all a raise?!?
Nezu: Hahahaha....NO! I’ve gathered you all here because....I have a confession to make...
Aizawa: Eh? You’ve been keeping something from us?
Nezu: Yes, I have. It has to do with the Tokoyami situation. I wasn’t supposed to tell you this, but, when the emergency crews were at the scene of the battle, they saw a suspicious looking character walking away with a heavy sack. They told me that they were convinced that Tokoyami was in that bag...alive! I didn’t want any of our students to risk their lives looking for him again, so the media and myself came up with the excuse that he was dead.
[The teachers’ jaws all drop simultaneously]
Midnight: You mean...he’s still alive?!!??
AM: [steam shoots out of his ears] HOW COULD YOU LIE TO US LIKE THIS??!!!!??? THANKS TO YOU, SOME OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN CLASS 1A!!!!
Aizawa: Calm down, Toshinori. I’m upset, too, but at least I don’t look like I’m about to kill the principal!
AM: [deep breath] You’re right....I’m sorry, principal...I got a little carried away.....
Present Mic: Should we tell the students about this?
Nezu: NO!!!! The students must never find out about this! If they did, they’d lose respect for me and the-
[Suddenly, Nezu’s rambling is cut off by a large boom from outside. The teachers run to a nearby window to see what it is.]
Aizawa: What’s happening to those buildings?
Present Mic: They’re all getting destroyed by that giant black thing!!!
AM: Giant black thing???? Oh no!!!! I’ve seen that thing before!!! That’s Tokoyami!!!

An announcement is made over the intercom for all students to leave their new dorms and report straight to their classrooms. Class 1A (who are mostly in bed at the time) quickly rush to their classroom, where they are greeted by an Aizawa who looks more sullen than usual.

Iida: Aizawa-sensei!!! Are you alright, sir?!?
Aizawa: No, Iida. We’re all in serious trouble! Tokoyami has gone berserk and is heading this way to destroy the school!
Class: WHAAAAAAA????!!!!!??????
Sero: But I thought he was dead!
Mina: Maybe he’s turned into a zombie and wants to eat our brains!!!
Aizawa: Tokoyami never really died!! It was just a lie by Nezu to cover up the fact that the villains took him back into their possession!!!
Ochaco: You mean...our teachers lied to us????
Aizawa: If it makes you feel any better, Uraraka, the principal lied to all of us, not just the students. He said it was necessary to avoid a repeat of...that night.
Izuku: I guess that makes sense...but why lie to us?
Aizawa: I’d really like to answer that question, but we have to get out of here now!!! Follow me!

The students file out of the classroom and follow Aizawa to the building’s rear exit. Helicopters surround the area, their blades buzzing and whirring in the nighttime air.

Aizawa: Okay! Listen up! I’m splitting you all into groups of two, and since we’re down a man, there will be one group of three.

Group A: Izuku Midoriya and Mezo Shoji
Group B: Katsuki Bakugo and Eijiro Kirishima
Group C: Ochaco Uraraka and Tsuyu Asui
Group D: Mina Ashido and Toru Hagakure
Group E: Tenya Iida and Shoto Todoroki
Group F: Yuga Aoyama and Momo Yaoyorozu
Group G: Sero Hanta and Rikido Sato
Group H: Denki Kaminari and Minoru Mineta
Group I: Koji Koda, Mashirao Ojiro, and Jiro Kyoka

Aizawa: Your groups will all be following a designated evacuation route, escorted by one of us.

Izuku: But, Aizawa-sensei, where are we going to?
Aizawa: You’ll go to wherever your escort says you’re going. Are there any questions?
Mineta: Um, Midnight is so hot!
Aizawa: I’m ignoring that. Everybody, get into your groups, and we’ll hopefully meet up somewhere.

Group A

Izuku: I sure am glad I’m with you, All Might.
AM: As am I. I couldn’t bear to see anything happen to you.
Shoji: So, what does that make me? Chopped liver?
AM: Nonsense! You are just as important to me as the rest of our students. I have no favorites!
Shoji: Then how come you’re always hanging out with Midoriya?
AM: [silence]
Izuku: Psst, Shoji, he’s not supposed to talk about that.
Shoji: Is he hiding something from us, too? You’d better tell me!
AM: [sigh] I suppose I have no choice. You see, I passed along my Quirk to Midoriya just before school started. The injuries I suffered all those years ago limited the time I could use it, so I decided that I needed to find an heir. After giving it away, while Midoriya’s powers grew, I slowly lost mine, and now, they’ve left me for good. Does that make sense to you, young Shoji?
Shoji: I knew there was something special about you, Midoriya, but I never would have guessed that your powers once belonged to All Might!
Izuku: But, please, Shoji, don’t tell anyone else about this, got it?
Shoji: You have my word.

Author’s note: Uh-oh! Looks like Midoriya’s secret isn’t so secret anymore! Will Shoji be able to keep it that way? All will be revealed in the next chapter.

Group B

Bakugo: Why do we have to evacuate this hellhole of a city? I wanna stay here and wreck some shit up!
Aizawa: You’re doing nothing of the sort! You have to stay with me, or risk being ripped apart by Dark Shadow.
Kirishima: I think you should especually be careful around that thing, Bakugo. Dark Shadow is powered by Tokoyami’s negative feelings, right?
Aizawa: Yes, I believe that’s what Tokoyami told me.
Kirishima: What if he still feels jealous over losing to Bakugo at the Sports Festival?!?
Aizawa: You may be on to something, Kirishima!!! Bakugo, we have to protect you at all costs!!!
Bakugo: Fuck that! I don’t need any protection from anybody!!! I am my own man! [He runs off]
Kirishima: Come back!!! You’ll be ripped to shreds!!!

Group C

Tsuyu: Ribbit. I don’t like this, Ochaco. Tokoyami is my friend. I can’t bear to think that he’s gone crazy.
Recovery Girl: Don’t worry, dear. All Quirks have a limit, and I’m sure that Tokoyami will eventually reach his.
Ochaco: What do you mean by “limit”?
RG: Well, for starters, he’s weak to the light. It’ll be sunrise in a few hours, so that should slow him down a bit.
Ochaco: If you say so....

Group F

Aoyama: Pardon me, mademoiselle, but could you provide me with a coat? It’s rather freezing out here!
Momo: It’s the middle of the night! Of course it’s going to be cold! Besides, you don’t see me wearing any heavy clothing, now, do you?
Aoyama: Ugh, you’re such a hater! Thirteen, I am so envious of your protection right now. You don’t have to worry about the cold or anything because you never leave that suit!
Thirteen: Stop your complaining! Back when I was little, my family was dirt cheap! Most of the time, we had little to keep us warm at night but the clothes on our backs!!! If I was able to live through that, then you will too! So stop acting like a wuss and man up!
Aoyama: Ouí.
Momo: For a Hero with no face, she sure knows what she’s talking about.
Aoyama: Non, madamoiselle, I am pretty sure that Thirteen is a male.
Momo: No, I think it’s a girl.
Thirteen: It doesn’t matter what I am!!!! Just shut up and follow me!!!!

Group H

Midnight: For the last time, Mineta, get off my back!!!
Mineta: But I want you to protect me from the scary monster!!! I promise I’m not trying to cop a feel or anything like that!
Kaminari: Can you carry me, too?!? I’m scared of that monster as well!
Midnight: No!!
Kaminari: [makes puppy-dog eyes] Would you say no to a face like this????
Midnight: Ugh, fine!
[Kaminari jumps on her back, causing her to almost lose her balance]
Mineta: Wheee! Now the boat’s really rocking!
Midnight: Shut up!

Group D

Present Mic: And then I said to Aizawa, “Are you for real? I’m not going out with you!!!” And he told me, “Huh?” And I-
Mina: Stop!!!! I can’t take it anymore!!! If I hear another story about your secret love affair with Aizawa-sensei, I’m going to kill myself!
Present Mic: What are you talking about? I don’t have a love affair with him, but we are good friends!
Toru: Then how come I saw you cuddling with him at the Festival?
Present Mic: YOU SAW NOTHING.....

Group E

Iida: So, what else are you hiding from us, Nezu? As class president, I deserve to know!
Nezu: For the last time, I’m not!!!! OKAY?!!??? I’VE TOLD YOU EVERYTHING I KNOW, YOU NOSY LITTLE BRAT!!!! [deep breaths] Whew, it feels great to get that off my chest....
Todoroki: Damn, and I thought Bakugo was the angriest one in school. He’s got nothing on you, Nezu.
Nezu: I HEARD THAT!!!!

Group I

Koda: [shudders nervously]
Ojiro: It’s alright, Koda. We’re here to protect you from that big bad shadow creature.
Koda: But...but what about my bunnies? Aizawa-sensei wouldn’t let me bring them along. What if the monster destroys the dorms?
Jiro: I have a hunch that our school is made out of very strong material. That meanie won’t even lay a scratch on it!

Suddenly, an explosion occurs in the vicinity of the school building.

Jiro: Never mind...
Ectoplasm: Uh-oh, that sounds like trouble! I’ll go see what’s happening!
[Ectoplasm sends three of his clones to go check on the school]
Ojiro: Can you see anything?
Ectoplasm: This is unusual. It appears as if Dark Shadow is slithering over the school!
Jiro: See, Koda, I told you your bunnies would be safe.
Ojiro: But what was that explosion?
Ectoplasm: Just a car getting destroyed....hey, wait a minute....THAT’S MY CAR!!!!

Group A

All Might recieves a call on his cell phone from Aizawa, explaining that Bakugo ran away.

Izuku: What’s going on, All Might? Who was that?
AM: It was Aizawa. He says that Bakugo ran off into the city to fight Tokoyami himself.
Izuku: This is just great!!! I knew Kacchan would do something stupid like that! I just knew it!!!
Shoji: Bakugo might be an asshole, but someone’s gotta save him before he gets himself killed!
AM: That’s just what I was thinking, young Shoji! I’m not supposed to be asking this, but, will you two help me save him?
Izuku: I’m in!
Shoji: So am I!!!
AM: Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s do it!!!!


Author’s note: Sorry about the length of this chapter. I wanted to have a nice, humorous, transitional chapter before the intense finale begins. And it certainly appears that the stakes just got higher for young Midoriya. Will they save Bakugo AND Tokoyami? Find out next time!

Group B

Kirishima: This is bad! This is bad!! He’s going to get himself killed! Can’t we do something, Aizawa-sensei?!?
Aizawa: You heard what the authorities said, didn’t you? We have to follow our designated evacuation routes. No exceptions.
Kirishima: But Bakugo is my best friend!!! I can’t let him die!
Aizawa: No. You are to stay with me at all times. If Bakugo wants to commit suicide out there, then that’s his problem.
[Aizawa’s cell phone rings]
Aizawa: Hello?
AM: This is All Might! We’ve located Bakugo!
Aizawa: What are your coordinates?
AM: About three blocks away from UA!
Aizawa: Say what? That area’s off-limits! What are you doing there?
AM: [hangs up]
Kirishima: Who was it, sir?
Aizawa: That was All Might. His group have just made contact with Bakugo...in the vicinity of UA!
Kirishima: But that’s the total opposite of where they’re supposed to be going! Tokoyami is in that area! What if he finds them before we do?!!?
Aizawa: Don’t worry. We aren’t going to be doing anything. All Might will be punished for his insubordination soon enough.


Group A

Izuku: Kacchan! We’ve been looking all over for you! Why aren’t you with your group?
Bakugo: What’s it to you, Deku?!?
Izuku: My apologies for being concerned for your safety! In case you didn’t know, you’re going the wrong way! We’re lucky we found you before Tokoyami did!
Bakugo: Speaking of which, where the hell is that bird bastard, anyway? I wanna teach him a thing or two about messing with us!
Shoji: You’re not thinking about fighting him, are you?
Bakugo: Hell yeah, I’m fighting him!!
AM: That’s a bad idea, young Bakugo. Tokoyami’s Shadow is powered by his negative emotions. He might still have feelings of jealousy about losing to you in the Festiv-
Bakugo: That’s just what Aizawa said, and I didn’t believe him, either!
AM: But it’s still a very likely scenario. Now, hurry! We have to get out of this area before-

BOOM!!!!!! Just then, Tokoyami and Dark Shadow crash through a nearby 10-story building, causing it to collapse. With fury in his eyes, he angrily stares down Bakugo.

Izuku: What was that about Tokoyami not having out for you, Kacchan?
Bakugo: Shut up, you fucking nerd!
Shadow: BRING ME.....BAKUGO.......
AM: [tries to sound heroic] You can’t have him, you big bully! Please leave my students alone!
[Dark Shadow flicks All Might to the side like a bug. Then he turns his attention to the students.]
Bakugo: [shuddering] I’m not afraid of you! I’ll f-f-f-fight you!!!
[Dark Shadow hisses in Bakugo’s face, then picks him up with one of his shadowy tendrils]
Bakugo: Agghhhh!!!!! Save me, you assholes!
[Shoji and Izuku are too awestruck to do anything. They just stand still and watch Bakugo flailing around like a doll. Finally, Izuku makes a decision.]
Izuku: Shoji, I’m going to go check and see if All Might is okay. You try to reason with Tokoyami.
Shoji: I’ll try!
Izuku: Good luck!

All Might lies on the street like roadkill, unable to move. Izuku approaches him and helps him up.

AM: Young Midoriya....please forgive me....
Izuku: You couldn’t help it, sir. You’re just used to fighting bad guys.
AM: Where is young Shoji? Don’t tell me he’s trying to fight that thing by himself!
Izuku: He’s not going to hurt him. He just wants to reason with him.

Group E

Iida: I sense something terrible is happening to some of our fellow students!
Nezu: As do I. It’s been a while since I heard from All Might’s group. He might be in trouble!
Todoroki: Wait, that’s Midoriya’s group!
Nezu: Everything always goes back to that boy, doesn’t it?
Todoroki: You don’t suppose that Tokoyami found them, do you?
Iida: Oh, no! If that is the case, then we had better go and save them!!!

Chapter 8


News Reporter 1: For all of those citizens who have not yet left the Musutafu area, please evacuate now. I repeat, please evacuate now.
[channel switch]
Helicopter Pilot: The damage is pretty sever-
[switch]
News Reporter 2: Stay indoors-
[switch]


The League of Villains monitor the situation from their secret hideout, rapidly switching between channels to get the latest updates.

Kurogiri: Our “new recruit” is performing admirably, sir. He didn’t destroy UA like we wanted, but, nobody’s perfect.
Shigaraki: “Nobody’s perfect”, huh? That statement could so easily apply to most of you. I’m pleased that Tokoyami is actually getting things done. He’s done more than that Bakugo kid ever could. I don’t know what you guys saw in him.

Speaking of Bakugo, he continues to get pummeled by Dark Shadow.

Bakugo: Stop!!! STOP!!!!!! I beg of you!!!! Put me the fuck down!!!!
Shadow: GOING DOWN....

Bakugo drops to the ground, but is saved before he can hit the ground by one of Shoji’s tentacles.

Shadow: GRRRRRR....BAKUGO....BAD!!!!!
Bakugo: Ha!! In your face, freakazoid! Tentacle Man over here saved me before I could die! How do you like them apples?!?
Shoji: Go over there with Midoriya and All Might. I’ll take care of Dark Shadow.
Bakugo: Eh, whatever....

Shoji approaches Dark Shadow and tries to reason with him.

Shadow: GO....AWAAAYYYY!!!!!!
Shoji: Stop! I just want to talk to Tokoyami for a second! I know he’s still in there somewhere!
Shadow: TOKOYAMI....GONE!!!!
Shoji: No, he’s not! I can still sense him! Now, be a good shadow, and let me talk to him for a little while.
Shadow: GRRRRAAAARRRRGGHHH!!!!
Shoji: This is gonna be harder than I thought.


At that moment, Nezu arrives with Iida and Todoroki.


Iida: What’s all this about?!?? Are you alright, Midoriya?
Izuku: I’m fine, but All Might is pretty badly hurt. He tried to save me and Shoji from Dark Shadow, only to get pushed aside.
Nezu: Where’s our little troublemaker, Bakugo?
Bakugo: I’m right here, dumbass!
Todoroki: I had a feeling that he might try to go off on his own.
Bakugo: Hey, this is none of your business, you half-and-half bastard!
Iida: But where is Shoji?
Izuku: He’s trying to get through to Tokoyami. It won’t be easy, though. Dark Shadow is not in a good mood right now!

Shoji: So, can you give me one good reason why Tokoyami can’t come out and talk to me?
Shadow: NOOOO....!
Shoji: Pretty please with a cherry on top?
Shadow: ME HATE CHERRIES!!!!
Shoji: Pretty please with an apple on top?
Shadow: APPLE???? YES!!!!
Shoji: Alright then! Now, let me talk to him.
[brief silence]
Shadow: NOOOO....!!!!
[Suddenly, Tokoyami’s voice briefly breaks through]
Tokoyami: Pleeeeaaase.....stop him......
Shoji: Say what?
Izuku: Was that Tokoyami I just heard?
Shoji: You heard him too? I’m not going crazy after all!
Shadow: QUIET!!!!
Tokoyami: [appears again] Shoji...Midoriya...save me...
Shadow: GO AWAYYY!!!! YOU ALL BETRAY US!!!!
Shoji: Betrayal? Is that what this whole mess is all about? How have we betrayed you?
Shadow: LEAGUE OF VILLAINS SAY YOU HATE ME!!! WANT ME COVERED UP!!!
Todoroki: I should have known they were behind this. When they captured him, they must have fooled him with some kind of fake story about us.
Nezu: Actually, Todoroki, there is some truth to what he says. You see, the entire time Tokoyami has been at our school, we’ve been aware of how...unstable....his Quirk can be. His parents signed an agreement when he was first admitted that allowed us to hide certain details of his Quirk from the media. That’s why, after his little accident at the Training Camp, there wasn’t any mention of his whereabouts in any of the papers. His rampage in the city during All Might’s big battle was another matter. Before the rescue operation started, I specifically instructed all the news helicopter pilots to cut away if things got too dangerous.
Iida: I cannot believe what I’m hearing! You’re the real villain here! Those villains were just lucky enough to figure it all out before we did!
Nezu: No, it’s not what you think...
Iida: For shame, principal! What do you have to say for yourself?!?
Nezu: It’s my duty as your principal to decide what’s best for my-

Suddenly, Dark Shadow picks up Nezu and drops him into his gaping black hole of a mouth. He is instantly torn apart by all of the dark energy. All that remains is his tie.

Shadow: DELICIOUS....PRINCIPAL TASTE GOOD!!!
Shoji: Now look what you’ve done! You killed our principal! Have you no conscience?!?
Shadow: HE HATE ME JUST LIKE REST OF YOU!!!!
Izuku: That’s not true! We’re your friends! We all care about you! Nezu turned out to be a jerk, but we’re not!
Shadow: YOU TRYING TO TRICK ME?!!!???
Shoji: No way! Believe me, I know what it’s like to have everyone afraid of me. When I was little, all of my classmates treated me like a villain, just because of the way I look. I mean, take a good look at me. I’m tall, I’ve got six arms, and my face was so terrifying I had to start wearing my mask to hide it from everyone.
Izuku: Everyone thought I was a freak, too. We know exactly how you feel, and we want to help you...

Dark Shadow takes a moment to flash back to a very long time ago....when Tokoyami was just a boy...

-10 Years Ago -

Preschool teacher: Alright, class. It’s rainy today, so we’ll be having recess inside.
Class: YAAAAAYYYYY!!!!
[One boy, a child with a bird’s head, just stays at his desk, doodling a picture of a strange, shadowy creature. This boy is a young Tokoyami, of course. Another boy snatches the drawing away from him]
Boy: Whatcha got here? Is dat da same thing ya always draw?!? Gimme a break!
Tokoyami: Hey, give that back, you bully!
Boy: Come an’ get it, birdy!
[The boy runs into the bathroom and puts it in the toilet.]
Boy: I dare ya ta fish it out!
[Tokoyami enters the dark bathroom, while the other boy locks the door behind him.]
Tokoyami: Lemme out! Lemme out!
Boy: Not till ya get your picture out of da toilet! Hawhawhawhaw!!!
[Tokoyami breaks down crying, but his sadness is quickly replaced with anger. What happened next is something that would stick in his mind forever. The darkness of the bathroom brings out Dark Shadow, who grows to an enormous size and rips the roof off of the school building.]

Another memory immediately comes to mind after that...

Psychologist: Your boy is a menace! We can’t have him in this school any longer!
Mama Tokoyami: He couldn’t help it!
Papa Tokoyami: Give him another chance!
Psychologist: I’m sorry, but he’s no longer welcome here! Stay out!!!

For the rest of his childhood, Tokoyami lived a reclusive life. His parents homeschooled him from then on, until the day came that they saw an advertisement in the paper for UA...

Mama: Oh, Fumi, baby! Look at this I found in the paper! It’s an ad for UA!
Tokoyami: Isn’t that the hero school?
Papa: It sure is, bucko! Finally, we’ve found a school where you’ll fit in with everyone else!

- First Day -

Tokoyami sits alone at lunch. He fears that this school will be much the same as his preschool. That is, until a boy from his class with six arms comes to sit with him.

Shoji: Is this seat taken?
Tokoyami: No. Why?
Shoji: Because I wanted to sit here.
Tokoyami: I don’t need your pity.
Shoji: Sure you do. My name’s Mezo Shoji. Those of us with mutant Quirks have to stick together, you know.
Tokoyami: If you insist...

- After the Sports Festival -

Tokoyami: Midoriya, I’d like to thank you for trusting me enough to help you in that cavalry race.
Izuku: Aw, it was nothing. Even if we didn’t win, it’s the fun we had that matters. And if it wasn’t for your quick thinking, we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we did.


- Present -

Shoji: So, will you please calm down?
Izuku: Yeah. We’re not going to hurt you.

Before Dark Shadow can do anything else, the first glitters of sunrise appear in the distance.

Iida: Well, would you look at that! The sun is coming up! Bye-bye, monster!

Shadow: WHAT??? NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Chapter 9


Once it is safe to enter the area again, Class 1A reconvenes in their room, where Aizawa has some important things to tell them.

Aizawa: Now that you’re all here, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.
Iida: What’s the good news?
Aizawa: Thanks to Midoriya and Shoji’s quick thinking, Dark Shadow’s rampage was stopped before he could destroy the school.
[everyone cheers]
Izuku: What’s the bad news?
Aizawa: Tokoyami has suffered serious injuries and will be in the hospital for quite some time. Not just physical injuries, mind you, but mental as well. His wounds will heal in time, but his mental scars may last forever. And that’s something that not even Recovery Girl can fix.
Ochaco: Can we at least go and visit him?
Aizawa: I’ve arranged for us to go pay him a visit this afternoon...[glares at the students who failed their practical exams] AFTER OUR STUDIES!!! Now go get into your Hero costumes and meet me in Gym Gamma.
Todoroki: Sensei, just one more question before we leave. Who’s going to be our new principal now that Nezu is gone?
Yaoyorozu: What happened to Nezu?
Iida: Dark Shadow ate him...
[the rest of the class who didn’t witness this event sit still with their jaws dropped for a few seconds before Aizawa speaks again]
Aizawa: Funny you should ask that. After consulting with the other teachers, we’ve all decided that the only logical choice is....All Might!
Izuku: WHAAAAAAA??!!!??? [falls out of his seat]
Bakugo: What a nerd....


During their training that day, Shoji and Midoriya can’t stop thinking about their friend. Shoji comes up with a new move called “Octoblow”, while Midoriya saves All Might from a falling boulder just by kicking it. This gets their minds off of Tokoyami for a little while, but it doesn’t last long, for it is now time to pay him a visit.

On the other side of the spectrum, The League of Villains are furious at the failure of their plan. Well, most of them, that is....

Shigaraki: Big deal! Our plan to use Tokoyami might have failed, but we’ve already planted the seeds of mistrust in his mind. This may end up benefiting us in the future.
Kurogiri: If you are right, then UA currently has a ticking time bomb in its ranks. All we need to do is wait for it to blow up! And that’s when we strike again!


At the hospital...


Aizawa: Is Fumikage Tokoyami awake yet?
Nurse: He just woke up an hour ago.
Aizawa: Would it be alright if his classmates visit him?
Nurse: Maybe your coming is just what he needs. I should warn you, though, he’s acting kind of weird..

The class venture into his room. He is currently tossing and turning in bed, muttering various things about darkness and destruction, while Recovery Girl monitors his progress.

Tokoyami: [muttering] Mad banquet...of darkness...explosions...revelry...in the dark...Midoriya...forgive me...Dark Shadow...
Izuku: Is he going to snap out of it?
Recovery Girl: I’ve been trying to get him to tell me how he feels ever since he woke up, but he keeps saying the same things over and over.
Tsuyu: Maybe he needs to talk to one of us.
Recovery Girl: Good idea! You should all try it out. I’m sure one of you will make him talk.
Iida: As class president, I will go first. [bends over and shouts in Tokoyami’s ear] GET UP, SLEEPYHEAD!!! YOUR CLASSMATES ARE ALL HERE TO VISIT!!!
Kirishima: Naw, that won’t work! Let me try!
[Kirishima hardens his arms and tries smacking him awake, to no avail]
Bakugo: TALK TO US, YOU FUCKING BASTARD!!! [creates an explosion, but even this does nothing]
Yaoyorozu: [calmly] Come on, you gotta get up.
Jiro: I’ll let you listen to my Slipknot albums!
[still nothing]
Jiro: Damn, I thought for sure that would work!
Sato: I’ll bake you an apple pie!
Koda: You can pet my bunny!
Kaminari: Fools! All of you! My method will definitely get him up!
Jiro: And that is....?
Kaminari: Uh....I forgot.
Mineta: [whispers into his ear] Promise him a harem of beautiful goth chicks...
Kaminari: I.....promise you a harem of beautiful goth chicks.
Mina: Ewwww, get real, you perverts! I’ll use my acid to get him awake!
Sero: But won’t that hurt him?
Mina: Oh my gosh, you’re right! He doesn’t need any more trauma!
Tsuyu: Ribbit, I will handle this. [she tries tickling him on the nose with her tongue] What gives? That always works on him!
Ochaco: Would this be a good time for me to use my Quirk?
Izuku: That won’t be necessary, Uraraka-chan. I’ve got the perfect solution, but I’ll need Shoji’s help.
Shoji: What do you need me for?
Izuku: We’re the ones who calmed him down last night. Maybe we can do it again.

Chapter 10

Izuku: Hey...are you awake?
Shoji: Come on, buddy, wake up. We know you’re in there somewhere.
[At that point, Dark Shadow slithers out of Tokoyami’s body]
Shadow: Please be gentle with Fumi...he’s been through a lot these past few days...
Izuku: You’ve been listening this whole time, Dark Shadow? Why didn’t you say anything before?
Shadow: You two are the only ones that Fumi really trusts. I wasn’t comfortable talking to anyone else...especially not the one with glasses...
Iida: Hey!!! I resent that!!!
Tokoyami: [breaks out of his trance] Dark Shadow...I’ll handle things from here....
Recovery Girl: He’s back! Thank goodness!
Shoji: Tokoyami, are you alright?
Tokoyami: Will you......ever forgive me for what I’ve done? I’ve hurt so many innocent people...I don’t think the school will ever take me back...
Aizawa: What makes you think that? Your classmates are all worried about you. Hell, I’m worried about your wellbeing because I’m your teacher.
Tokoyami: But...I aided The League of Villains...and I killed our principal...It’s just like Shigaraki said; I’m no hero...I’m more like a villain!
Shoji: Don’t listen to what that creep says! He doesn’t know what he’s talking about!
Izuku: You’ve done way more good than evil! Remember when you helped me get those extra points during the Cavalry Battle? Our team wouldn’t have passed if it wasn’t for you!
Shoji: Yeah, and even though it made you lose control, that was pretty awesome how you saved me in the forest!
Koda: I thought I was a goner at USJ, but your Quirk came in and helped me out!
[everyone else nods in agreement]
Izuku: See? We don’t think you’re evil. You’re one of the most powerful students in our class.
Bakugo: Second only to me, Birdbrain!
[Iida and Todoroki give him dirty looks]
Ochaco: Don’t let him talk to you like that, Tokoyami! Doesn’t that bother you?!?
[For the first time in forever, a big smile appears on Tokoyami’s face. He begins chuckling at Bakugo, and soon the rest of the class joins in.]
Tokoyami: Thanks, everyone. I guess I really am in good hands at UA.
Izuku: That’s the spirit! Now, say it with me, people...
Everyone: PLUS ULTRA!!!!

A few days later, Tokoyami is released from the hospital, and rejoins Class 1A. His name is re-entered into UA’s database, and life continues on as if nothing happened.

But this is not the end of Tokoyami’s story...he still has a few personal demons to deal with...but that is a story for another time....
