Dawning Draws

Oops forgot some stuff

The most important thing I forgot good lord this was a huge piece for me. I spent way too damned long on this thing to not post it. Anyway here's half a second of insight into Taylor and Mira's decks without explaining any of Taylor's fan-cards because that's most of her deck.

Redraw of that one shot where Misty holds up a lure of herself except with yamujiburo/Kiana Mai's redesign of her.

Nemona from stream last night! Uhhhh backwards hand oops it happens. I'm surpsingly happy with the foreshortening on the top left one though.

PMMM OC stuff! Forgot the circle on Kyubey's back in one of them. But. I'm also super not experienced with above angles like that and I think I did. Okay.

Had to draw this in twenty minutes for reasons, I hate it so fucking much.

Did. A lot on stream the past two weeks also. Idk what the hell was going on that I managed 5 pieces across two streams.

Also this happened at some point posing or w/e

Apparently I haven't posted my pieces from SD discord's last two teles, so here's these. I'm highly unhappy with the latter of these but the person after me had fun so it's fine maybe.

Two things on stream tonight. Honestly I'm pretty unhappy with both though, not exactly sure why though...

Posing practice thingy. Wanted to work on more dynamic angles and stuff. Idk.

I really really really do not like this piece. I was experimenting with rendering some things a bit differently (like for example, accidentally forgetting to render chairs) and I am not at all happy with how it came out.

Well, although it doesn't look like you were entirely satisfied with your results tonight, I think that you should be happy with yourself for experimenting, just for the sake of it regardless of the results. What you have here are the stepping stones to something greater one day, don't you think? At least I'm hopeful that it all is!

Experimenting is always good! Stepping out of our comfort zones is the only way we improve, after all. I do really like the experiment with perspective and dynamic posing you did. The hand is just a smidge too large compared to the rest, but it's not glaringly so. The rest of the body is foreshortened fantastically. I'd like to see more of those kinds of things if you keep practicing in that area.

I think your strongest skill is color, honestly. You have a pretty decent sense of value already and giving things dimension. Once you get your form language up to the same level you're gonna create some fantastic things, I can already tell.

The one thing I would mention is that you have zero variation in your line weight. Every line is the same thickness with no tapering which creates really hard, dark lines that takes away from your wonderful painting. Are you using a pen tablet to draw? Have you messed with any of the settings for pressure and output? I think doing so would be an instantaneous way to improve your pieces tenfold.

Over all, great work. Keep it up.

I do have pen tablet that I use for all my art, yeah-- I can't imagine trying to work with a mouse really. I haven't actually... figured out where the settings for pressure and stuff is, I do use brushes with pressure sensitivity always (by which I mean the "hard round pressure size" for all line art), but I struggle with being able to consciously adjust the amount of pressure I'm putting down, especially without it slowing me so much that my lines become extra shakey, so I mostly just end up going "well, it'll taper a little where it does naturally"...

I appreciate hearing this a lot! I'm always a little nervous going into things with a lot of foreshortening because no matter what I end up doing with it, I always end up feeling like I just made the things disproportionate without it actually having any sort of... feel of distance. So I appreciate knowing that that's at least not entirely the case.

Out of everything I know colouring and rendering comes far more instinctively to me than anything else... I hate leaving pieces unfinished simply because to me, nothing I make looks good if it's not rendered to the fullest, so I'm not entirely surprised to hear this... Honestly, I know it's not great that I tend to rely so heavily on one aspect of the piece to try and make the whole look good, but at the same time, I do always appreciate hearing that that part does look good.

Heh, would it soothe you any to know I'm a lot of the same? I'm a very strong sketcher. More of my work remains as sketches than anything else because of this. It's also why when I /do/ color something, it's normally very simple or relies more on texture or additional detail in my line art. I think most people naturally fall into where they're most comfortable/confident. It's also what makes each artist unique from one another.

That said, don't be afraid to lean into it! Especially if it's something you enjoy about the process. Have you ever played around with doing lineless pieces? I've always admired folks who could pull of that type of style. Your proficiency in rendering might make that something easy or interesting for you in that way.

What kind of tablet are you drawing on? Most brands tend to come with a small application that controls pressure/output/work space/etc. I've used a couple different kinds; Genius, Wacom, and most recently Huion. All of them had an app that came with the installation of the software/drivers.

Mine looks like this, and as you can see it gives you three points on a grid to set to your preferred feel as well as a test area on the side to see what it's like. I had to spend a little time tweaking it today, changing the settings and scribbling in my art program and changing them some more, since I had to reinstall recently.

Guess who's finally getting off my ass and updating my art thread for the first time... checks notes this entire fucking year???

This isn't technically everything I've drawn since I last posted but it's all I'm posting for now due to various reasons.

Man you've improved a lot over ages. Love these artworks. Especially the first one, it's really beautiful.

Is it Yu-gi-oh? Just guessing I don't have any idea about that. But I wanted to read that manga, not sure when will that be happening. I'm busy with my uniworksity.
