I thought that too.

I find it funny that the closest thing we've gotten to a gun since season one of the anime is a stapler.

I think after that incident with the whole Warden Kaiser is gun-crazy on little kids, Nintendo and GameFreak wanted to stay far, far away from realistic firearms.

Now that I think about it, it would be hilarious if they re-released Legend of Dratini but digitally replaced the gun with a stapler.

Yes!

When I first saw the trailer I did actually think it was a gun for a second and I had to do a double take. Then I thought it was some kind of weapon/tool from the Pokémon world before realizing it's just a stapler.
It took me my second watch to realize it was a stapler.

Yeah same. And Pikachu even says it's a stapler but I totally didn't hear that at first. You just don't expect someone to confront a home invader with a... stapler.
I mean, he doesn't look old enough to have a gun liscence in the first place. And on top of that Pokemon is a japanese franchise and it's nigh impossible to obtain a gun in Japan.

Speaking of Pokémon being a Japanese franchise, did anyone notice they drive on the left side of the road with the steering wheel on the right, like it is in Japan? It's a small detail but interesting nonetheless. It's a Hollywood production but for the world this movie takes place in they decided to stay closer to the Japanese roots in this aspect.

If you look at it it looks kind of grim-and-gritty anime-ish with lots of neon signs and all that.

Didn't they film it in London though? Where we also drive on the correct side of the road? :p

BRITAIN REPRESENT! *leaves thread*

I thought the stapler was funny ngl. I'm not really upset they aren't using a gun omg

Given that the movie's supposed to be pg, they're pretty lucky they got away with the stapler.

Eh, I think with the drastic changes happening to the movie (compared with previous movies), they've let a few things slide which are ok tbh - it looks like a more 'adult' movie i.e. not just for really small children.

They can easily get away with a joke with a stapler filling in for a gun tbh. It's not something kids will pick up on but it's kinda funny for older children and adults. Pixar movies also tend to have moderate adult-oriented jokes that totally go over kids' heads but are fun for the parents.
