I do not see how the distribution of these Pokémon = omg rsemake really soon omgzzz!!11!!1

If anything, it decreases the chances. If the remakes were coming out soon, why would they distribute the Pokémon that are completely exclusive to the Hoenn region? Remakes would have been a much better way to provide us with these Pokémon.

So yeah, this is hardly a hint.

This does indeed decrease the chance of Gen III remakes, for the very reason you stated; in fact, this just about guarantees that there will be no remakes. However, for reasons I've stated above, this significantly increases the chance that Houen will be included in BW2. And really, looking back, there's no reason we should've doubted the potential to fly to Houen from Isshu later in Gen V. After all, the only two real regions of Japan that haven't been made into Pokemon regions are the ones that link the real-world counterparts of already existing regions, so by the next generation we're almost certain to be able to travel back to Kanto/Jouto at the very least, as well as either Houen or Jouto. And there's no reason why once all of the regions are linked in-game, we shouldn't be able to fly to Isshu from the main continent (the one based off of Japan). Might as well let us fly back and forth sooner rather than later--in this generation.
(hope I've explained all of this coherently)

It would be cool to have to Hoenn be the region that N ended up traveling to, but you can't really use one distribution as solid evidence that it will be in the games. We don't have any information at all about what's in the games, so I think we should wait a bit...

If I remember correctly, the Johto starters were available through Emerald version, were they not? So they usually do something like this.
HeartGold and SoulSilver were released quite some time after Emerald, so that doesn't really make it relevant to what I was saying.

Of course. I don't claim to have any 'solid evidence', and before today, found Houen-based speculation to be a far stretch. However, this one distribution just so happens to be distributing both the starters and legendary mascots of RS, all up until the month prior to BW2's release. That's bound to raise a few eyebrows, and it's sure as hell raised mine.

The real comparison is to the Generation IV events that preceded HGSS: They didn't distribute any of the Generation II starters or legendaries, and so by 2009 they were able to refer to those Pokémon as rare (which they arguably were even in Generation III).

If to be honest, although I'm most certainly open to the idea of a second region in the new games, these events make it seem pretty pointless for the Weather trio or starters to be featured in any games soon. At this point, the Generation II starters and legendaries are again those that need to be made available, since their new abilities are currently unobtainable.

Personally I think it points to a connection between Unova and Hoenn and strentghens my opinion both will appear in BW2. After all, releasing lots of Gen II pokes seems to me like it would decrease motivation for consumers to buy RSEmakes, yet something RSElated (see what I did thar?) is definitely on the cards sometime relatively soon, not only because of this distro but at the very least due to all the Hoenn hints and references in Unova, right down to the latter possessing three ancient ruins associated with the weather trio/Hoenn's main motifs: Dragonspiral tower (sky), Abyssal Ruins (sea) and Relic Castle (land).

But if Hoenn were to be included in B2W2, why would they make the legendaries and starters available via events rather than through the games? A return to Hoenn wouldn't necessarily involve those Pokémon (indeed, that didn't happen with Kanto in Generation II), but I still don't see any reason to relegate them to events around the same time as the games' release. If they want to generate hype for Hoenn's return, they should just announce it.

It is entirely possible that the events are a way to commemorate Ruby and Sapphire's tenth anniversary that doesn't involve upcoming games.

I don't think this makes RSE remakes any more or less likely. There are a few aspects of Generation V's timing that make me suspect that this generation will be a shorter one and won't contain any remakes, but this thing? It's just a regular promotional event. If this were an online, international distribution then I might ascribe more significance to it. The reasons for Hoenn Pokemon being involved are stated in the article. It's purely a thematic thing.

I'd say that the list is piling up. The most reasonable assumption is that Game Freak want their first approach to the 3DS to be a new generation, and that we won't have to wait until 2014 for that to happen.

Also since when have Nintendo been commemorating anniversaries of trains?

I think they are trying to hint at RS and give out RS Pokemon but were looking for any excuse to disguise it rather than outright saying, your getting remakes.

Straw grasping has never been so magical. These are likely gonna be the last gen 5 games, no need to even consider remakes this gen. However considering Hoenn is even more ridiculous. These events are purely location based, and should have no connection to these new games or any remakes.

It should have always been clear that Ruby and Sapphire's tenth anniversary would be celebrated in some way regardless of game releases. The 15th anniversary distributions (including Mewtwo's, as you were all too happy to point out) did not amount to anything deep, and the Kyushu train promotion seems even less significant.

I still don't have a clue what that Mewtwo was for lol. If this was just some random distributions, I'd probably disregard it too. But then when you start getting other possible hints, then maybe you can dismiss it as coincidence, but the more hints you get the more it becomes likely to not just be coincidence. On the massive page of GS remake hints, there were still people saying the hints were all just one massive coincidence. Now admittedly we have nothing similar to that kind of scale this time, but it is building.

I disagree, but even if that were the case, it is happening too late. I have yet to see anyone propose a reasonable plan that would allow remakes to be included in this generation.

Guys, the reason why Hoenn Pokémon are being given out is explained in the article:
Besides the anniversary, the reason for the distribution of Generation III Pokémon is the fact that Hoenn is based on Kyushu.
And you know why this is important? Because it's to celebrate the Kyushu Shinkansen. If the railway was in Kanto instead, I'm sure we'd be seeing distributions of Kanto Pokémon, for example.

If anything, giving out Groudon and Kyogre makes remakes less likely at this point, because why would they give out the main legendaries that they would later use as selling points for remakes? You guys just look into anything Hoenn-related way too much. I mean, first there's the colour of the "2" on B2W2 logos which are obviously representing Reshiram's fire and Zekrom's thunder and now this 9.9.

Bsaically, I agree with @Blazaking EX, @Bikini Miltank and @Silktree on this one.

Let me get this straight. A real world train line celebrates an anniversary and for two months they release Pokemon to people who ride it?

Sometimes it is so hard being a Pokemon fan and living in North America. Though, I bet the fans in Europe and Australia said the same thing.

Well, Pokémon does have what, 6 stores dedicated solely to it in Japan? Also, even the K-ON! movie had trains painted to advertise it.

Over here, the most even the biggest film blockbuster can do is get some posters stuck to the outside of buses.

That is something. I am not sure the last movie, at the end 2011, made it to a movie theater contrary to what I was lead to believe via internet buzz. My kids and I were very disappointed.

Did you get any of the recent cartoon seasons ( since Diamond and Perl ) released on DVD or Bluray?

No, the only Pokémon DVDs released in the UK are of the movies and Pokémon Chronicles. There are all four Diamond and Pearl movies released on DVD in the UK with M14 being released in April. I do buy imported Pokémon DVD seasons and movies from America and Australia because I have a region-free DVD player. Also Destiny Deoxys, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea have not been released released yet in the UK although Destiny Deoxys is supposed to be releasing on Blu-ray on April 2 in the UK but, as I've said on the Fourth, fifth, seventh Pokémon movies coming to UK Blu-ray April 2 thread, I'm thinking that it may not release again.

Much like the red and blue in the logos of BW2, they dress it as something else, eg the logos were made to look like Kyurem's Ice, and now they're using this excuse of "oh its because we really love this train station" (which also happens to be where Hoenn is based by the way)

I remember there being a massive wall of hints on a page of Bulbapedia called something like GS remakes, it was huge, and there were still individuals who argued against every point and claimed that "GS remakes aren't necessary, no that's not a hint to this it's that. you cant base it off just FRLG once is not a pattern etc"
HGSS happened, yes. However, most of the reasons that were on that page were completely unrelated. Here's what the page looked like right before HGSS were announced. Things that happened right before the announcement such as the starters and Pichu in movie 12 and the announcement of the announcement of a new game obviously are "hints", but most of the other stuff is complete nonsense.

One major point was the unused "Johto" met at location. This ended up unused, and was likely only included to go along with "Kanto" and "Hoenn", since "Sinnoh" was one too. Referencing to things from Johto, like things from other regions being referenced, is treated as a hint for remakes. A reference is completely different to a remake hint, and other regions got it just as much.

Other random "hints" are:
  • The fact that the rival can be rebattled on certain days of the week (the time mechanic itself could be considered a hint, not this)
  • The fact that new Eeveelutions were introduced
  • Sweet Honey due to being planned for GS
  • expected furthur explanation of why the legendary birds showed up in Sinnoh in Pt (which never happened)
  • The potential of adding the white rock Oak mentioned to Kanto (which didn't happen)
  • Shellos and Gastrodon's extra backsprites which were supposedly going to appear in Johto (but they didn't)
  • Mantyke's back design supposed to differ between regions (which wasn't different in Johto or Kanto)
  • References to RageCandyBars
  • The Strength puzzle in the Distortion World resembling the Blackthorn Gym puzzle (which was changed for HGSS anyway)

Plus there's the ridiculous observations of various things being gold and silver
  • "The Park Balls are gold and silver in color, with a light blue band across their middle that may represent the games Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal."
  • "During a wild Pokémon battle, if the bottom screen is tapped with the DS stylus at certain times before and after the battle options appear, the normally red and white Poké Ball becomes gold and silver colored."
  • "On Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia's game card, the two colors in the background are silver and gold."

The speculation page then goes on to point out that stuff like Ash's Gligar/Gliscor was a hint at HGSS.

Things such as a lack of stock art in the current style and the original games being rendered unplayable due to battery failures are reasons to have a remake from a fan perspective, but not hints that the remakes will occur nor really strong reasons for Game Freak to decide to make remakes. Arguments that the lack of the ability to igrate via DSi was legitimate though.

So, to recap your massive list of arguments, the only one that was around at this point prior to the release of HGSS (not counting stuff directly beforehand, as B2W2 means that RSEmakes won't be for a while) was that the DSi lacked a GBA slot, meaning that another game (not necessarily a remake) needed to be released to compensate for Pokémon that needed it.

Gen V takes place about 14 years after Gen I/III
I've never really seen how anything in BW shows this. I know it's based on BW being released that long after RBY, but if anything I would base it on either the time difference between it and FRLG or HGSS (if I had to use this method). Caitlin is 14 in PtHGSS - if 14 years have passed, she is now 28 in BW, and this does not appear to be the case. Likewise, if 14 years had passed Cynthia should look at least a little older, but she doesn't. However, the time gap is at least as large as the age of the ex-Team Rocket Grunt's child (who is probably about 5).

The article says that they are being distriuted because Hoenn is based on Kyushu. I dont think it has anything do do with a Hoenn remake and I dont think its related to B2/W2 in any way.

But why the starters and the Weather Trio? The last time this happened HG/SS was released... either R/S remakess are the next games or Hoenn will apear in B2/W2... and @ArginX why do you spell it Huoen?
Last time this happened? Having recently been through every single Japanese Generation IV event for Bulbapedia, I can safely say that the Johto starters and Lugia/Ho-Oh were not distributed leading up to the announcement of HGSS. We got Spiky-eared Pichu right before movie 12, but that was because the movie was promoting the upcoming games, which were announced not long after. B2W2 ensure that we won't be getting RSEmakes for a while, so this event's timing means it cannot imply them.

Since Skyla even pointed out the difficulty associated with flying to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh even in a plane due to the distance, I really don't expect us to be flying there. Besides, Hoenn would be extremely tacked on if you could randomly fly there from Unova; there is no reason for it over any other region to be flown to from Unova.

If I remember correctly, the Johto starters were available through Emerald version, were they not? So they usually do something like this.
The Johto starters were in Emerald because you couldn't get them in the GBA games without the GameCube games at that point (and even then they weren't easy to get). Likewise, we got the Kanto and Hoenn starters in HGSS for the exact same reason: they were unobtainable in that generation without connecting to Generation III, which HGSS was trying to make Gen IV no longer depend on.

Also since when have Nintendo been commemorating anniversaries of trains?

I think they are trying to hint at RS and give out RS Pokemon but were looking for any excuse to disguise it rather than outright saying, your getting remakes.
I'd say what's more likely is the bullet train company approached The Pokémon Company, not the other way around.

@SnorlaxMonster you said so much I can't really be bothered to attack each point and we're unlikely to persuade each other so I don't see the point, we'll have to wait for when you've got that cold hard game in your hands before we agree I guess.

But just to point out, the fact they didn't use stuff, doesn't mean it wasn't a hint, it meant they were keeping there options and open, and were considering adding them to Johto. Like the White Rock and new formes etc. They new they were going to remake the games so they started laying down the foundations by saying things about the rock in Kanto and birds in Platinum etc. The fact they then said, nah actually we won't use them, doesn't mean they weren't going to use them.

Also all the stuff about colours isn't ridiculous. If you start seeing Gold and Silver everywhere, I'd consider that a pretty big hint. Notice how in Black and White, suddenly we don't see Gold and Silver everywhere, (it may be somewhere, but not as prevalent) because their not lining up remakes for Gold and Silver anymore, so they're not putting in all the Gold and Silver stuff.

Also I don't see why on Earth a train company would contact a gaming franchise, and ask them to give out Pokemon to celebrate the trains anniversary. Equally I don't see Pokemon developing a sudden fascination with train companies in regions based on Hoenn.

They don't want to be too obvious, they want to disguise their hints so that some will be able to work it out and it will still be a surprise for some. Some people are quite good at picking up hints, others are not.

I suppose the next hint to RS will just be another coincidence, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next etc. How many "coincidences do you need before you start to think ok maybe this isn't a coincidence anymore?"

Also while traditions have been ignored recently, I don't see why they'd make Gen 5 shorter than all the other regions, by giving us only 2 installments instead of the usual 3. Also as demonstrated by the 3rd version split/sequel thing, Nintendo are having rough times, Nintendo needs money, repackaging the same shit they did 10 years ago and selling it like its new, is easy money, and with the situation there in, they'd be foolish to pass up what is essentially free money.

I can't see Gen 6 coming out next year, I'll eat my woolly hat if it does. I think 2013 will be the release of RS, but with them moving BW2 up early in the calendar, is it possible for RS to be released towards the very end of this year? If they were already working on it surely they could release it in November which is the 10 year anniversary.

If it is pushed back to 2013, then why can't it be Gen 5 but on the 3DS. After all, I believe the first Pokemon games on DS weren't Diamond and Pearl. For example, I got Pokemon Ranger on DS before DP, but Pokemon Ranger was 3rd gen apart from the Manaphy egg at the very end. RS remakes could have something in them in the style of the Manaphy egg, or even a more recent example the Lock Capsule, although it was never utilised it was planned.

There's a simple reason for that: Pokémon is HUGE. A Pokémon distribution on the trains themselves (iirc, isn't the Pikachu actually on the train, not the platform?), means people will have to buy tickets to use the trains to get the promotion, which means that the initial intake for the new train line will be a lot larger. The train company most likely used the Kyushu-Hoenn link as a selling point to persuade The Pokémon Company to do it.

Mind if I hold you to that? =D.

If GameFreak wanted to move to a new console mid-generation, they would have made Black 2 and White 2 for the Nintendo 3DS. The difference with Ranger also, is that Ranger is a spin off game, not a main series game.
