Do you enjoy the franchise a lot more now that you're older?

Just what the title says.

I certainly do enjoy playing the games a lot more, even though the certain sense discovery that I had when playing the games when I was younger seems to have disappeared for whatever reason.

I'd say I don't enjoy the main game as much but the finer aspects such as battling and breeding I appreciate much more now.

Out of all the Nintendo franchise that I've played, and looking back at them, Pokémon is the best franchise for me. There are so many things that stand out in Pokémon that are lacking in other franchises that I played:

  • The socialisation aspect is something that I found cool, with trading and such.
  • Because the main games are always on a handheld, they are easily accessible. It also helps that Pokémon is a major franchise too.
  • The characters are all different in each region. Which is good, because it shows more of the Pokémon world, and there's more chance that you will like another region if you don't like the current one. At the same time, the gameplay basics stay mostly the same, so there's a good balance of difference and cohesion.
  • My personal flavour, but I generally prefer lighter games than heavy ones - because if I want a dark story, well, there's always the news in real life. This is why I eventually dropped Final Fantasy after playing X, X-2, and VIII. (It also does not help that I don't have PS1/2.) Also the reason why I haven't played as much for Fire Emblem either, although I am thinking about getting Awakening. And I got freaked out by some of the scary bits in Zelda's Twilight Princess - which is a shame because I really like the portrayal of Zelda in this game.
  • That said, I don't like games that are too idiotic and too story-repetitive as well. The Super Mario series quickly comes to mind - Peach is an idiot who doesn't even try to use her Final Smash against Bowser, and Luigi and Toad are cowards who doesn't even try. (And Mario is an attention whore.) At least Pokémon always starts with new characters, and generally has the right balance of comedy and deepness. (I know Ash Ketchum isn't the best-written character, and I agree, but I say he's leagues better than those losers in the Mario series. Unless if you're talking about BW Ash, but even there he does not get kidnapped a million times, or wimps out etc.)
  • Back in the days when I watched the OS anime, Misty was my favourite character, both in Pokémon and in Nintendo. It was always fun seeing Misty arguing, making snide remarks, battling, and travelling with Ash and Brock. And she actually battles, both in the anime and in the games, which I loved seeing from a female protagonist, and especially from a Nintendo heroine. Now I know about Fire Emblem's Lilina/Caeda/Eirika, and Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess versions of Zelda, and other Nintendo heroines that actually fight, but Misty was the most memorable.

All of these things made me enjoy Pokémon back when we only had RBY and GSC. With better battling mechanisms, and inspirations from outside of Japan in the form of Unova and Kalos, it made me appreciate how far the franchise came. Eventually I started playing Pokémon X, and moved to Pokémon Black, and I am planning to get Pokémon Black 2. While I have lot more commitments now as an adult, I think I am starting to get back the enthusiasm when I was a kid.

I'd say I enjoy it a bit less as I'm no longer casual.

Yes. Reason?

1. The Internet is better than it was in the 90s. Thus, better information.
2. Better animation through advanced technology. What a time to be alive.
3. Knowledge accumulated, and thus understands the franchise better...somewhat. Being able to enjoy the games thoroughly than when I was eight and knew nothing.
4. Being able to enjoy freely due to older age - no "You can't watch Pokemon until you did your homework" or such.
5. Being able to feel nostalgia for old games and anticipation for new ones at the same time.

Most definitely.

One of the main reasons I payed Pokémon as a kid is because it was the poplar and trendy thing to do. Don't get me wrong, though; I still enjoyed the games, but just not as much as I do now. When my friends and I would battle each other, we would just use are legendary Pokémon (in our case Groudon and Kyogre) and other high-leveled mons, which were usually our starters. As I kid, that was all my team really consisted of: my starter and a legendary Pokémon. I didn't know type effectiveness/weaknesses, and I would battle by spamming Hydro Pump and Fissure. If I did that now, I would be so embarrassed and bored, yet back then I thought it was a good strategy.

Another thing that I did back then was skip through all the dialog and get straight to the battles. Little did I know, that's why I was lost all the time and was never able to enter the Sootopolis Gym. But now I enjoy reading the dialog, even in reruns, because not only can it be funny at times, it's helpful also.

I'm also able to think about the games and anime more than I was able to as a child, thus leading me to come up with my own little head cannons and such. I'm able to think about the moral of both, and I feel that I now have a better understanding of the show than just "It's entertaining!".

Tl;dr: I enjoy the franchise better now because I'm able to appreciate all the littler aspects of Pokémon.

I like pokemon as much as I ever have. I like it's world and I like the games. I just have a greater tendency to deconstruct it due to the matter it only markets itself towards kids. Once upon a time, everyone ignored the childish aspects and thus created better explanations for it. It is now more the fandom I hate than the flaws of the franchise.

not really, to be honest, the older i get, the more flaws i see on the game
thats goes from the non interesting story, to the boring villains, to the dated combat, and griding in general
or the forced social aspect (the whole friend safari is annoying to me, i get the idea, but the execution is not good)
the thing is, this game is designed for kids, not for me anymore, thats why is not so interesting to me anymore
i been exposed to tons of different games, that have better combat, story, etc.
and even though pokemon stil have its charm is not as strongh as it use to be

idk....I've been playing pokemon since I was about 10 (gen 1) and I'm 29 now.......I've been getting a little disappointed with what GF introduced in 6th gen, like Poke Bank (man, I miss the old school Poketransfer that didn't require an internet connection -_- ), not being able to access the safari without friend codes.......I just wanted to play the video game and not have to have the internet constantly waying it down inorder to access everything :/

I was very disappointed with XY and the lack of post game (worst post game ever out of ALL the gens). I also have the frear that GF is officially running out of ideas for new pokmemon, especially due to the lack of new ones in this gen........I hope this will change soon...*Finger's Crossed* xD

XY post game was the Looker side quest, Battle Maison, Friend Safari, Mewtwo, a Legendary Bird and Zygarde, it was far better than Gen 1, Gen 2, Ruby and Sapphire and Black and White post game. And worst post game? Are you kidding me? Gen 1 had no post game at all, Gen 2 was crap Kanto that was a barren wasteland with barely anything to do, Ruby and Sapphire had only the Battle Tower and Latios/Latias and BW was the Battle Subway, crap Eastern Unova and Kyurem, so no XY post game is not the worst post game of all gens so don't bullshit me. And GF is not running out of ideas for new pokemon, there are still countless types of animals, plants and bugs to make pokemon out of it, they just did less this gen because alot of people complained about the large aumont introduced in Gen 5.

Yes i enjoy the franchise much more now that i'm older. I like how the battling got more complex in each generation, now there's a ton of combination of pokemon, movesets and such unlike in the first gens.

I'm kind of indifferent. Is that the correct word? I've always been a casual fan, and I've been a fan since 1998. It was just another video game to play with my friends.

Certain things, yes. Now that I'm older, I feel a lot of the magic has disappeared while playing new games. That doesn't mean I enjoy the games any less, though. Now, I can play more technically online, which is a lot of fun.

Quite the contrary, actually. My enjoyment in Pokémon games is extremely lower nowadays. Not sure if it is because I am almost 24 years old or if the franchise just lost most of its charm to me. Maybe both things, maybe not. Anyway, all I can say is that I didn't enjoy XY nearly as much as BW back in 2010 and that I am not very interested in ORAS. I am finding much more enjoyment in other franchises like Smash Bros, Dark Souls and Street Fighter nowadays. I guess it is finally time for me to move on from Pokémon.

I do enjoy it a lot more as I'm far better at battling, nicknaming and understand a deeper meaning in Pokemon so can enjoy characters more such as a certain Team Flare boss everyone seems to hate because they see his surface meaning.

I got into Pokémon since I was 12, so my perception wasn't neither too young nor too old. I do enjoy the latter iterations of the franchise much more, but that's more because the games and stories themselves have greatly improved from the very basic models of previous iterations. Now if only GameFreak was capable of pushing further instead of relying on their same old things (BW2) or taking many steps backwards (XY)... but I digress. I have always liked the core concept of the series and even the formula. There's a few aspects I wish could have changed, like the Monotype trend, but I've resigned myself on that. I still am fond of meeting new creatures, places, characters and stories, so I will probably keep going with Pokémon.

Overall, my getting older hasn't played much of a part in my enjoyment of the series as a whole. Maybe I just saw other, less wholesome aspects of it and reveled in them avidly, if you know what I mean, but other than that, what has increased my enjoyment of the franchise more has been how it has improved over the years.

Nah, I enjoyed the franchise much more when I was younger. I mostly play Pokémon for the story, and overall I felt like the quality of the games story-wise has more or less gone down with each new release (other than Black & White, I thought the story in those games were surprisingly good). It was especially disappointing playing X because I feel like it's supposed to be my favorite main series Pokémon game, but outside of the post-game Looker subplot the story is just so weak, and I just can't look past that.

To be fair I also think my changing interests in gaming is affecting the enjoyment I feel in Pokémon games, but I'm not sure to what extent.

Over the years i've got better at the mechanics of battling, so this is the main reason i enjoy it more. Also i now have a DS lite, so i am really getting into gens 4 and 5 and i realy appreciate all the hard work that went into them, seeing all the improvements from previous gens.

I only had the Trading cards when I was younger. Now I am older, I have played the games and Watched the anime. I enjoy it now, and think the games are great at my age, as you are now more brainy, and can strategise much better than a young child can.

The wonder, the joy, the excitement. All the things I had for Pokemon when I was little still resides in me and is ever growing, being that Pokemon has been with me since I was in the crib.

I can understand a lot more things abut the games.

The Pikachu Amiibo had me thinking of yelling "PIKACHU, I CHOOSE YOU!!!" as I use it in Super Smash Bros.

It feels nice looking back at all Ive achieved with my Pokemon teams. Especially with my first team in SoulSilver.

When I have the money, I buy the cards just because I like the art work.

The anime is super enjoyable when I can now think about what's going on instead of just viewing it. I don't think my kid mind would have understood Infernape in his last clash against Paul. It would have been epic, but I don't think the meaning would pass on to me.

Anyone can ask, I'll always say, Pokemon For Ever!!!!

um.....I'll just plainly put it this way:

1) The Looker Quest: lol, what a joke!....finished the entire thing in under 30min...

2) The 3 Post Game Legends: tbh, never been a huge "Legends Fan" beyond collecting it's dex data...and hunting down "The Wandering Bird"- yeah, already met up with it enough times, in 4 days total, for it to go into it's carvern and I wasn't even after it :/

3) The Friend Safari: I'm sorry but it's pretty pathetic when GF designs an exclusive location to catch certain pokemon...and you are not allowed to access it without a friend code.....I never actually needed to use the internet to play an effing Pokemon game before 6th Gen......complete bullshit ><

With That Said.....What The Hell Post Game Does X/Y Have??????.......Seriously... <_<

On A Side Note: What are you talking about?!?!?......Black/White Has A Massive Post game! xD.......Are you sure you were playing the right one?
