From the 15 or so SM episodes I watched he's by far the character I most disliked. Idk, but the character who loves eating trope annoys me a lot.

I think that Sophocles' dub voice is fine. It at least seems fitting for his character and it never really bothered me that much, if at all. Lillie's dub voice on the other hand is still pretty bad. It just might be the worst dub voice that the TPCI dub has had in quite some time. She still sounds so high pitch and unnatural every time she talks.

I agree actually. Lillie's voice is the hardest for me to deal with. It sounds like an old lady trying to sound young. It reminds me of when the 90s recast the voice for Sailor Moon and Mercury. Both actresses sounded like someone trying to sound young but failing badly especially with trying to make their voices higher.

Again, might be misremembering things, but Lillie also sounds older in the LA Spanish dub. Not as bad as how people say she sounds in the English one, but she sounds as a 20-30 something there.

By the way, I have a theory. Is there any chance that the hate towards Sophocles also has to do with the fact he is also hated in the games? I recall people disliking him for making the Festival Plaza.

Never cared for him in the games and he has better moments in the anime... but not much.

Sophocles is OK but I would have preferred him to be a supporting character instead of a main, 6 is too many

I can understand people feeling neutral towards him as they haven't done much with his character.

As a character, I find him interesting. They made him a character that is self-conscious though he tries to act prideful by bragging about little things. He enjoys eating good foods but is conscious of the fact that people judge him because of his eating habits (possibly for being overweight as shown in the first episode that he and Satoshi hang out, er... Get stuck in the mall.)

He's smart but not battle smart. He knows how to build things and loves his Pokemon but because of the Alolan culture, he has very little interest in battling.

Sun and Moon is the first series where we see a culture that mainly sees Pokemon as pets or as wild animals, as we see animals in the real world.

He is very competitive but not annoyingly so... Sophocles enjoys winning especially in things that can show off his Pokemon.

Shockingly, its amazingly easy for him to make friends with others despite him probably not realizing it because of his insecurities.

He also doesn't seem to know just how much he means to each and every one of his friends.

I found that the few episodes starring him did very well in showing me who he is. Sophocles doesn't need to catch a lot of Pokemon or win a lot of battles to develop.

Each episode that is about him gives a clear picture of who he is and how he fits in with that group of misfits.

I like him. He's not my favorite character of all time, but I certainly don't think he's the worst character in the history of the show.

Part of the problem is he's definitely received the least amount of attention and focus out of the SM cast. I feel like we know the least about him, and what we have learned, we learned much later than the other characters. Not really sure why that's the case...maybe he just doesn't have enough interesting aspects about him to really hone in on. But if anything, that's moreso the writers' faults.

I also feel like a big aspect of SM is family, and to be fair, Sophocles probably has the most boring family out of the group as well. He doesn't have cute/quirky younger siblings like Lana and Kiawe, an edgy brother and overbearing mother like Lillie, or a chef father and super charismatic brother like Mallow. His parents are cute characters, but there's nothing really "special" about them. He's got Molayne, who I like, but is still not quite as dynamic as the other family members. So Sophocles doesn't have much to play off of either.

Overall, I like Sophocles' personality. I think he's gotten some funny lines, has had some genuinely sweet moments, and I like that he's not really passive and will make some snarky comments from time to time. I know a lot of fans compare him to Clemont, which I guess isn't totally unwarranted, but I definitely like Sophocles more than Clemont, this being one of the main reasons.

Sophocles is my second favorite classmate after Mallow. He is not defined by his interest in technology, but rather by his childish behavior and by how he has had a comfortable and normal life until now, and his episodes play with that. He doesn't want to go on adventures like Max and Bonnie, he just wants to enjoy his friends for the time being.

I understand why people aren't fond of him, as he is a bit immature and is always stating the most obvious things, but I still think he should be more appreciated as he has had development at his own pace.

I actually like Sophocles, they just barely do anything with him as Lillie and Lana seem to be the only classmates the writers give a damn about....

And he also suffers from being too similar to Clemont, Electric specialist(But at least he actually sticks to the type) and a nerd. I can see why people dislike him.

And I agree Lillie's VA dub voice is trash, by far the worse we've had in years!

I still really don't see how Sophocles is that similar to Clemont. Is he a an Electric specialist just because he has two Electric type Pokemon? I don't think that he mentioned that he wants to be a great Electric type trainer, although I could have easily forgotten if he has mentioned something like that. Plus, I think it was more of a necessity for Clemont to have other types with him considering that the XY actually traveled around Kalos. It would have felt a bit too limited for Clemont to only have Electric types on him and they did explain why he started to capture different types of Pokemon starting with Bunnelby. Unlike Clemont, Sophocles has little to no interest in battling with his Electric Pokemon, so I can't really see him as a specialist.

Sophocles does invent stuff, but it rarely comes up. One of Clemont's main gimmicks/running gags was his desire to keep making inventions. That was a key part of his character since he wanted to make inventions to help people and Pokemon. Making inventions isn't nearly as important to Sophocles. That's why I can't really see them as being too similar to each othere. They only share basic surface level similarities at best.

I think he's great. He's sweet and an overall good kid. I don't think he's the most amazing character to ever exist but I enjoy his presence and his relationships with the other characters (and Togedemaru <3 so cute).
