Note: If this is too similar to @Oriden’s “Fakemon that look legit” thread, feel free to merge.
Since all we’ve gotten from Scarlet and Violet so far is a single drip, I’ve been looking for good Fakemon to fill the void. Seeing how close the artists can get to Sugimori’s style has been very impressive, and I think it’s worthwhile to show off some of our favorites here.
Very Important Rule #1: be sure to give credit to the original artist, designer, etc. For my part, I will make sure all my pics have the Instagram page where I found it clearly visible (as much as it pains me to contribute to the Zuckerberg empire). If they commissioned it from someone else, you should be able to find that info on Insta itself.
Less important but still good rule #2: Spoiler tags. Use them. They make things cleaner overall and are just good practice.
With that out of the way, let’s get started with some starters. Tubs_AZ’s pretty well known in the fakemon game, commissioning other work for notable Poketubers. His set of starters though is the best I’ve seen as far as ones I can see Ash having in the anime. One of his designs I actually preferred an older version of, so I included that. That’s the beauty of fakemon is there aren’t a ton of rules.
Also, they did something unique with the Water Starter that isn’t without precedent (Rowlet and Bulbasaur do the same thing) but adds a little subversion to the basic type triangle that I liked. Not sure if this artist did it first or another well known Poketuber but I like these designs better anyway.
