In what will undoubtedly be a somewhat controversial announcement for fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game dissatisfied with the performance of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Live, The Pokémon Company announced during today's Pokémon Presents video presentation a new free-to-start mobile app, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, which is scheduled for release later this year for iOS and Android devices. The app is developed by The Pokémon Company in partnership with Creatures Inc., who are responsible for design and planning of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and DeNA Co. Ltd., developers of Pokémon Masters EX.

In contrast to the Pokémon Trading Card Game Live, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket appears to be more focused towards casual collectors and players, offering new ways to appreciate the cards through unique visual effects, and the new "immersive cards" which allow players to experience the Pokémon world inside of the card art. All players will receive two free in-game booster packs daily.

From the initial previews, it appears that while many of the cards in this game feature artwork from Pokémon cards both past and present, the cards themselves are entirely original. For instance, many cards feature different attacks and/or types to the original cards. The cards layouts in this app also follow a new universal design that blends aspects of the layouts of both modern and classic cards. Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will also allow players to use the cards they've collected in a new quick battle system which features a streamlined version of the Pokémon TCG rules.
