No forum would be complete without a thread about metal! So I'm doing the complete opposite. I assume that most people visualize people like Joan Baez and flower power music when someone mentions folk, but it's far more than that. Folk music is an all encompassing term that includes roots music, acoustic music and so on. It doesn't always have to be acoustic or old, it's still evolving to this day. Classical (European, Asian, etc), bluegrass, jazz, blues, opera, acoustic, folk metal, so much falls in this category, but not many people seem to enjoy it these days.

For those interested in starting to get into it, an amazing radio show with a television/podcast broadcast to accompany it gives access to SOOOO many great musicians. http://woodsongs.com/ I've been watching this show for awhile and it's introduced me to some of my favorite musicians. Tommy Emmanuel, Jake Shimabukuro, Acoustic Eidolon, Frank Vignola, Crooked Still, Chris Thile, Mike Marshall, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush and so on. Tons of great talent to be heard.

Let's discuss some of our favorite groups, instruments and just talk about folk music!
