For fun: How could the main anime be used to advertise Mystery Dungeon?

Just an amusing challenge in celebration of Mystery Dungeon DX's release.
The AG era saw the first Mystery Dungeon game, which was released while Japan was airing the Battle Frontier (a bit after the battle with Greta, I believe). Understandably, unlike Ranger they did not try to advertise it in the main series, creating a separate animation instead.

However, things have changed a little since then, as the new series isn't laser focused on Sword/Shield and the way it's current working makes it easier to explain Ash going on a lengthy trip elsewhere since he isn't traveling city to city trying to collect Gym badges.
There's basically no chance this is going to happen, but let's say for some reason it did.

So here is your daring mission: Create an episode or even a small arc that advertises the Mystery Dungeon games in some way in the main anime. There is only one rule:
Ash and Gou must be involved in the episode(s); don't cheat by saying "they appear for a minute then we cut to the MD plot" or "it's them reading a storybook about it".

Would Ash and Gou meet a human who was turned into a Pokémon, or be sent to the Mystery Dungeon world themselves? Or something else entirely?

If I were in charge, I'd have an episode where Ash dreams about getting transformed into a Pokemon while hilarity ensues with rescue missions and such. I think that'd be more realistic than having Ash and Go actually become Pokemon.
A dream would be a pretty good way to do it without derailing anything.
Although to be fair Ash literally turned into a Pikachu during Johto and it even carried over in the start of the next episode (still one of the more bizarre moments in the series).

I also think it could work better with a dream of Ash or Go, preferably Ash as he could transform into Pikachu and also because he's the most adventurous. Team Meanies could be voiced by Team Rocket's actors for fun. Maybe it could be focused on Makuhita's dojo to make it different from the first special.

Another option would be an episode focused on Kangaskhan or Kecleon, and on the very last scene we discover that it's the same from Mystery Dungeon!

Didn't Satoshi/Ash transform into a Pikachu for a short while in OS? It always felt like a missed opportunity. I remember seeing a lot of fanart of "Ashachu" back in the day.

I guess the Pokémon only shorts are kind of like Mystery Dungeon but the difference is that they are targeted at very young kids while PMD tries to be mature and talk about a lot of serious topics.

I am mostly sad about the fact that we never got to see the story of Gardevoir and Gengar animated. Same for the Explorers of Sky episode with Grovyle and Dusknoir.

The weirdest part of that was how it carried over into the start of the next episode.
Yes, the fanart was pretty big. It still pops up--there was a moment that got some attention from the shipping community during XY when Masuda retweeted some fanart of Ashachu with a "Serenachu" with the comment "LIKE".

If Ash and Go must be involved, the only options seems to be...
A. An episode where, somehow, they are turned into Pokemon and go on a rescue.

or the more likely

B. An episode where they dream about being turned into Pokemon and go on a rescue.

I'd personally go with the Caterpie mission since it's the very first one and it's super simple. After the mission ended, Ash and Go would go to sleep in their newly found base and wake up as humans again. Ash would of course turn into Pikachu, while Go could be Scorbunny.

Koharu.........transforming into pokemon......yamper is her pet........her father is a scientist, that must be for the episode titled: full melmetal alchemist. Jokes aside, I think that ash dreaming about a parallel world where humans don't exist and pokemon are controlling their own adventures would be fitting ,for him. I mean on many occassions he talks about how pokemon feel and think and how they see their trainers or generally just wondering about their lives in the wild and inside their pokeballs, plus ,it'd a fun watch if team meanies wore team rocket uniforms ,and other pokemon had facial characteristics or clothes or haicuts or just voice actors ( because honestly apart from a ribbon or a hat ,the other features would be creepy)etc. of some characters of the anime. But at the end of the day we'll probably get nothing.

It's too bad Ash being turned into Pikachu only lasted for a few minutes total. They could of at least given us a stretch of a few episodes before finally having Ash return to being himself.

To be honest, there was one part of the first MD it would have been interesting to see Ash reacting to if he were in the hero's place:
Mystery Dungeon Dx/Rescue spoilers:
The fugitive arc. Ash suddenly having so many people he'd be on friendly terms with suddenly turn on him to such an extent could shake him in a way not many other events have.

It would at least have been fun to see how his other Pokémon reacted (especially Bayleef :p).

The dream option seems like the only plausible option for this concept. Ash and Gou just suddenly being turned into Pokemon for an episode probably wouldn't be a stretch, but hand waving it away by saying that it was just Ash's dream would be the easiest explanation and they wouldn't need any setup for it either. It would be a cute idea, especially if they use it to try and show how much Ash sees Gou as his friend. They'd probably only have time to cover one or two rescue missions and just give kids a taste of what the games are like, similar to those specials for the first couple of Mystery Dungeon games.

Well I've always wanted to see Ash in handcuffs, so this sounds like it'd be worth seeing.

I guess you haven't played Rescue Team?
They're not trying to arrest the hero--they're trying to kill them and they escape.

Edit:

Aside from a dream they could also do something similar to the Johto episode where they performed for a radio show--using cutaways between what they're talking about and what's happening in the real world.

How about bringing PMD to the anime in a Role-Playing Board game a la D&D?

The way I'm imagining this game is that it's a 2-3 player game with each player being a Pokemon (referencing the number of Pokemon you can bring into a dungeon barring clients/new recruits in a dungeon) that Go and Koharu used to play when they were kids and needed a way to pass the time in rain/snow.

The episode could have similar weather conditions and have Ash not being in the mood for training (might be a hard sell on this point). Go can bring up the game as a way to pass the time and ropes Koharu into it with him saying that she always wanted to have another player in the team (she denies this of course).

We see them setting up the game and perhaps the first few turns to get a feel of how it's played, then we cut to the "imagined" PMD world where they act out what happens in the game. The imagined world is what we'd see for the bulk of the episode and it ends with the party successfully clearing the dungeon/fulfilling the job request.

It's a bit cheesy/nerdy, but I think it'd be a good way to incorporate PMD into the animeverse and to give Ash, Gou, and Koharu an opportunity to bond without involving actual Pokemon. What do you think?

It's actually interesting how a number of TV shows have had episodes like this. I'd never thought of Pokémon doing it but that could be fun.

Although I imagine Pikachu and Raboot would get involved somehow.

PIkachu/Raboot could be the client(s)! One mission could have one be escorted to the other in a dungeon or need to be rescued from one.
