I still strongly don't believe the Fairy type will happen. It just seems like a such a stupid name for a type in my opinion.
I assume that would be the type's name in Japanese, and that the English version would have a different name ("Sprite" or "Fae" for example). Remember that Dark type is "Evil type" and Psychic type "Esper type" in Japanese, so changes might happen again.

How is Fairy any more stupid than Dragon? Both are mythical creatures.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

lots of reading xd.
Yanchamu - I like the look -if it doesn't evolve into kungfu panda - (fat panda) I might train it.
Yayakoma - agreed robin like. Common flying type and probably weak stats.
Erikiteru - solar panals lol. Mawile pre-evolution to dramatic change (normal/electric evolves into steel) aka unlikely
Gōgōto - uninspirational goat. The real awesomeness is the possible ride a pokemon as a alternative to a bicycle.

info on starters confirms most general though on them.

How is Fairy any more stupid than Dragon? Both are mythical creatures.

and if fairy is too girly, as many (probably somewhat ignorant) people are saying, does that make dragons manly? how about ghosts?

i am not a huge "fairy type for president" person, my stance is i am fine either way, but most of the arguments i see AGAINST fairy type typically consist of "it's too girly" "i don't like it so it won't happen" "it's not a real thing, which all other types are so far based on".

everyone who assumed she was just normal (like me) or flying, or something else, has to sit back after three months and ponder a new type being a big possibility. stubborness be damned, something weird is going on, especially since it seems her type is not in corocoro, but four new pokemon were given their types and tons of info all at once right off the bat. what makes them so not-special enough that they had their types revealed? what makes sylveon and the legends special enough to not have their types revealed?

anyone flat out refusing to accept the possibility of a new type at this point (which was me a few months back: i simply thought it would too much trouble for game freak, who'd have to retcon and redo a lot of things) is in denial. that doesn't mean "it's happening, deal with it". it just means it's worth considering. and if we consider a new type, the only type that makes any sense AT ALL (sorry, but "light type" followers lack some very basic logic, not to mention the entire idea is initially based on a flawed idea that dark means lack of light, when it in fact just means badness), is one that finally splits normal type into the actual normal animals (dogs, cats, cattle, rodents, birds, etc) and the why is this a normal type again? pink, magical and whimsical creatures (jigglypuff, clefairy, audino, etc).

every other creature fits very comfortably into its type, except those whimsical pink things that made normal type into a more "etc type" than anything else, as they are far from normal. so do i believe in fairies? i am not sure. but i am 100% fine with splitting up normal type.

and let's all be very glad we did get the details on these four new ones - or erikiteru being steel type related to mawile or not would be all we would now be discussing.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I think the fairy type sounds fine. Clearly, some pokemon like Clefairy (who's type would probably be retconned to be Fairy) just aren't "Normal". Fairylike and healing powers aren't by any means "Normal". But they aren't quite most other types either. Given that we already have Dragon as a type (as Joshawott pointed out), what in the world is wrong with Fairy? I think it's probably one of the best ideas. It would also have pretty clear weaknesses and advantages due to stories and previous fictions. I don't understand why it would be strong against Ice, though. But I could easily see it maybe being weak to Poison and Steel maybe. And possibly strong against Dark, Ghost, and Dragon maybe. Overall, I believe that we will get a new type, and Fairy would be fine by me. I'm just a bit concerned that Ice is going to be even more of a punching bag.

As for the newly revealed mons, I really like them. Of the four new ones, my favorite is probably the Panda or Goat. I could see the panda evolving into either Fighting/Grass or Fighting/Dark. I think that the Electric lizard thing may lose its Normal typing in exchange for maybe Flying or Dragon upon evolving.

So if can ride the Goat we will probably have the possibility of riding the Fire Fox Starter Evolution!

I really enjoy the new pokemons. Can't wait for their evolutions.

Everyone has this annoying Tinkerbell idea of fairies. Well, the real thing is bigger than this. Where do you put gnomes, elves, imps, dwarves, goblins, ogres, trolls, mermaids, kelpies, phookas, sylphs, undines, selkies, redcaps, leprechauns, clurichauns, brownies, gremlins, banshees, boggarts, fauns and satyrs, nymphs, yousei, veelas, wizards, pixies, sprites, sorcerers, centaurs, kobolds, loreleis, melusines, sirens, unicorns, even hobbits or thestrals if you want, and so forth?

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I'll be okay with fairy if it gets a name change...although I'll still be upset with the ice weakness.

Also, I'm skeptical about the riding...in the picture though, it looks like the character is on a saddle, so maybe that's like a key item of sorts?

I also want to add that no matter what fairy can apply to...99% of the 10 year old kids who play pokemon will always think "little girls in tutus"

Out of Pokemon because fairy tales, in my opinion, shouldn't be included. But in all seriousness, I would think that it would depend on how their design/what move set they have. But there is also a difference between Fairy, and fairy tales. If the type is Fairy, I would think they would stick to the 'Tinkerbell' aspect.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Some English name ideas:

Lizard: Solamander, from solar and salamander. Solarmander is too long. Or maybe Gencko, from generator and gecko.
Panda: Pancho, from panda and banchō. If it isn't named this then I will be calling my panda Pancho anyway, because it sounds cute. :3
Someone on deviantART came up with the name "Electail". Which sounds just as cute as the thing already looks. If it is based on a frilled lizard, I could also see something like "Frilectric" as the name of its evo.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I had this dream last night and it was of the evil team of X and Y wreaking havoc by releasing toxins and radiation that changes pokemon's DNA, and thats's how some pokemon become fairy-type.

I know this is really random but I can't imagine Game Freak retconning older pokemon without somesort of in-game explanation... and its literally been haunting me.

Do you think they could make the retcons part of the story (assuming fairy/light/goodness/love type exists)?

The dream kinda reminds me of the δ Pokémon of the TCG: δ Delta Species (TCG) - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia

There wasn't really much of a story behind how Magnemite got its Steel typing, so if Pokémon are ret-conned Fairy/Light/Love/whatever, I don't imagine they'll bother with much story explanation behind it.

True, but that was a single line back in the early days of the franchise. This is apparently multiple lines at a point in time where those Pokemon who're changing types are already well-established as normal or whatever. It's easy to see how Gamefreak might think they need an explanation at this point.

Very good naming ideas. I really like Pancho. Maybe with two o. Panchoo. Then it would be like Chubchoo.

Well Gogoat is definitely gonna be the resident Grass type on my team, especially since I know I can ride him! As for the others, I'm going to wait to see if they have any good evolutions (although it would be cool to have a king fu panda on my team).

I would love a Fighting/Dark Snorlax-look-alike evolution for Yanchamu.

Regarding the new mons, I like them, especially Yayakoma (as you can see ;P) and Yanchamu. Erikteru's OK too, I guess. I don't love its design, but it's underlying concept & type is pretty cool. Also loving the idea of Gogoat & mounts; been a long-time coming IMO.

Yeah, and what there was of it is rather confusing. It was mentioned a couple of times in GSC that Dark & Steel were "recently discovered", but even the explanation for the retcon has been retconned itself now, with all those references removed in HGSS, and Steel types being available in FrLg :/

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Hmm, do you think Mawile will gain a secondary typing - electric? If the yellow newt does turn out to be Mawile's pre-evo, then Mawile herself could have an electric typing, with the Normal changing to Steel? We've had pokemons changing type upon evolution in the past (namely Skorupi and Drapion), so maybe not impossible?

Rumor has she's going to become a steel/Fairy type.

Eleki and Mawile aren't even the same species. They only have a similar color scheme.

Even at that, Mawile would have to be Steel/Electric and Eleki is Electric/Normal.
