Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Well, I noticed one thing on the Electric lizard. Look at the yellow triangle on it's face. Then look at the yellow triangle on each of it's ears. If it move it's ears below it's eyes, it would make a Triforce. OBVIOUSLY this is a coincidence but it's just something to think about.

I still strongly don't believe the Fairy type will happen. It just seems like a such a stupid name for a type in my opinion.

Everyone has this annoying Tinkerbell idea of fairies. Well, the real thing is bigger than this. Where do you put gnomes, elves, imps, dwarves, goblins, ogres, trolls, mermaids, kelpies, phookas, sylphs, undines, selkies, redcaps, leprechauns, clurichauns, brownies, gremlins, banshees, boggarts, fauns and satyrs, nymphs, yousei, veelas, wizards, pixies, sprites, sorcerers, centaurs, kobolds, loreleis, melusines, sirens, unicorns, even hobbits or thestrals if you want, and so forth?

Um....A kelpie is a horse who murders children by drowning them. Wouldn't quite associate them with a fairy, would you?

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I was thinking about Yayakoma. Since it can learn Flame Charge, I was wondering whether it would turn into a phoenix when it evolves? If it did, I'd assume its' second stage would still be more Robin-esque and the 3rd stage would be a Fire/Flying type phoenix.

I like the idea of having a good Fire/Flying type that I can find early in the wild.

Well, here's hoping.

People need to get the notion that all fairies = tinkerbell out of their heads.

Considering that the banshee apparently counts as a fairy, and their origins can range from elemental spirits, to demonic, to demoted angels a horse that drowns children really isn't that far out of what I'd consider a fairy to do.

It's like how "Yokai" in Japanese mythology is a broad term and doesn't describe any specific entity other than it being a supernatural creature.

Let's say the person who tipped of WPM was right, and that he simply didn't know that Fairy was strong against Ice because he had to play the game and fight Pokemon in order to discover Fairy's strengths and weaknesses--Fairy type's weakness to Steel falls in line with the classical mythology for fairies as cold iron is used to ward them away.

Although it may be the case, Blitzle never ended up getting a Fire-type typing. I think it may be a similar case here, although I could be wrong.

Erikiteru doesn't look related to Mawile in the slightest...

It sort of makes sense for Blitzle though in the sense of the charge part. It had high speed stats (right?).

It seems a little out of the blue for a plain old bird pokemon to learn Flame Charge. A phoenix would be sweet though.

It's me or Erikiteru looks a little bit like frogs from Keroro Gunso.

The robin is known to be a fast flyer, so that's probably where it comes from.

An electric type can easily create flames from sparks. A normal type can't. It knowing flame charge indicates more than blitzle.

... Cannot unsee.

Anyway, I do find it curious for the robin to be able to learn Flame Charge. It does not appear to be a fire type by any means, and its typing doesn't indicate that. It evolving into a lite-Moltres/Ho-Oh would be interesting, but I'm not sure if it's all that possible unless it undergoes a type change after evolving. I think the safest bet is to just assume that it flies so rapidly that it somehow causes friction against its body which and causes Flame Charge.

@GreatLiver: Except Blitzle is the only electric type to learn Flame Charge. Every other Pokemon, except Blitzle, Mew, Genesect and this bird, that can learn Flame Charge is part fire type.

Anyone who has seen Torchwood will forever have a different outlook on fairies, completely different to the 'little tinkerbells' that some people may currently think of when hearing the word fairy.

I'm just going to say this but,

Japan has adopted a lot of westernized concepts and ideas. If the majority of people in America think of tinkerbell and friendly woodland LoTR elves when they think of fairy, chances are Japan will too, especially if fairies aren't really that common in older Japanese history and mythology.

Also, there's been plenty of malevolent fairies in folklore who look very pretty and fair and yet are still malevolent.

And I'm just going to say this: Game Freak does research when it comes to origins of Pokemon.

And again, if WPM's source is reliable, it's evident from it's weakness, Steel, that the fairy type is not just drawing from the modern tinkerbell view, but from classical views as well.

Which is why I love the origins of Pokemon.

But that still doesn't rule out the possibility of cutsy fairies should this typing come out true.

I just saw the new Pokemon and I have to say that three out of four of them look amazing. I think Yancham is cute, Gogoat is cool looking and Yayakoma is funny for some reason. I don't particularly like the electric reptile Pokemon, but it might grow on me. 3/4 good Pokemon is still amazing though. Good job Gamefreak. :)

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Ok, finally I'm writing here. First things first.

Gogoat: Really liking this design, probably because I wanted a goat pokémon for so long (and I even imagined that one could be a starter at some point), the beard makes it look more mature and wise. I'm probably just speaking nonsense by now.

Elikiteru: Weird design, but cool at the same time. Maybe it's just my electric fanboy. But I really like it.

Yayakoma: I love the simplicity in it's design. And he's not Pidove, so that's another plus.

Yancham: Gotta say, I wasn't expecting a panda. I like it a lot, possibly one of my team members in the future.

And now thats out of the way: my opinion on the (possible) new type.

I agree with multiple users on here with the broadness of the word Fairy, it's not just Tinkerbell. The fair folk extends to a lot of myths and legends mainly across Europe (but I wouldn't put it past GF if they included legends from other countries). I mean, heck, even Slenderman could classify (even if he scares the socks out of me). I could imagine several concepts that would fit with Fairy type flavor. And most of them are quite interesting.

They'll probably have Fairies represent a mix of European (Xerneas), modern Western (Sylveon, Clefairy, if it's re-typed), and Japanese (Dunsparce!) views, maybe some angelic creatures too.

Just like Ghost and Dragon Pokemon take ideas from multiple views of those creatures.

Oh God, please no! Don't let Gamefreak read this!

Elikiteru is the Alomomola of Generation VI. It looks like Mawile (especially when standing on its hind legs), it has the same colour scheme as Mawile, but it's not related to Mawile.

Still, it's my favourite out of the new bunch (although Gogoat looks very fluffy).

Unlike Luvdisc and Alomomola, I see no resemblance apart from the color scheme.
