Re: Gen VI Pokemon Speculation Thread

I think Gen VI is going to have a surprise no one will see coming, whether it's a deviation from its normal tropes, re-introduction of an old character, or or a reversal of their normal equation. While the same old same old would be fantastic (and still very lucrative), I'm sure Game Freak knows that it had better switch things up a bit or they risk losing some of their older demographic.

But Talonflame's "pants" still fit in with the whole bird of prey thing. I mean real birds have the same thing after all:

View attachment 87919

They just exaggerated it and made the spots bigger and more even.

I know it's accurate to hawks and falcons, but I think it's like you said: They exaggerated the size of them to the point where it's not a finely stippled texture anymore.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Talonflame I like a great deal, type-wise (though not necessarily looking competitive at this point) and look-wise, though the name does not seem Pokemon-like at all. Since it is a Fire/Flying bird I somewhat want it to be related to a Phoenix somehow. That how I decided to be within the name and effectual effect of this pokemon's dream ability, Second Wind.

Second Wind flavor: Pokemon charges up speed when exhausted.
Second Wind effect: If you select an attack while Talonflame is in precarious position (if your opponent knows a move whose max possible damage could knock Talonflame out), Talonflame's speed (and attack stats?) goes up, and its moves goes up in priority (and temporary power?).

Then again, while such is phoenixy, it is not very hawkish. (With such an ability though, the pokemon could probably make do with the BST of Noctowl. 51/94/50/103/94/50 could be its stats--it wouldn't care too much for its HP anyway, what with SR's recoil.) Competitively, it turns Talonflame into a fast bruiser that can reliably beat things like Scizor as it could create its own unique brand of Fire priority move. Hawkish and similar would be an attack-move variant of Prankster, where all such attacks get +1 priority.

Otherwise... I think I like the potential concept of Helioptile... as opposed to Talonflame, competitively. An Electric pokemon fitted to a Sunny Day team would be rather well. It'd be neat if it had an Electric move made more accurate or powerful in sunlight. Better yet, Helioptile could (unlikely enough, given its name) evolve into a nuclear energy pokemon.

Flabebe I decided could have this neat little ability, Plant Guard.

Plant Guard flavor: Pokemon guards itself with a flower.
Plant Guard effect: Pokemon gains the resistances of Grass (Water, Ground, Electric, Grass).

Every other pokemon revealed so far I think exciting... except Chespin. Except Chespin actually becomes one of the most exciting, however, when I realize that I don't know what it particularly is! Most of my hope for Clauncher, on the other hand, is in its evolved form, which is likely to be cool (and Water/Steel, potentially) I think given some hints on Clauncher.

^I think rating pokemon based on potential abilities and moves that aren't even hinted, much less known to exist is at the very least premature.

But I agree that Talonflame is awesomely cool.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Well I'm going to be total sheep and post another top six list, because these Pokemon are worth it :I
1.Chespin
2.Froakie
3.Skrelp
4.Pancham
5.Helioptile
6.Clauncher

Chespin is still my number one, and I'm still trying to decide whether I'll pick him or Froakie. I'm quite fond of hedgehogs, and Chespin seems to have some traits of other animals in him too, which I'm curious to see how they'll develop as he evolves. Skrelp is such a grumpypants I can't help but love it, and I've always liked Water/Poison as a typing. Pancham has so much personality, and it's good to see GF continuing to kick the "honourable" fighting sterotype into the curb. Helioptile took some warming up to, but seeing it in action in the game made me like it and become interested in what it could turn into. Clauncher is based on a really cool animal (a pistol shrimp), and it's great to finally have a crustacean Pokemon that isn't orange.

I honestly can't even decide what Starter I want XD

To me they all have something special to them that I like. Chespin looks like an overall cheerful critter that has this happy go lucky additude and I really just seem to like that about him, also part of his entry says that "Despite having a curious nature that tends to get it in trouble, Chespin keeps an optimistic outlook and doesn't worry about small details" which kind of makes me think that it hints to him maybe getting the Dark Typing later on since Dark Types are sort of known to be mischievous, though I could really care less what he turns out to be as long as the design is on point. Fennekin my number one fave tied with Froakie, she looks rather feisty yet she retains a certain elegance (which is what I'm expecting with her evolutions), I'm really feeling her design as well I like the way her snout and eyes were drawn also those ears are so Fluffy (Despicable Me reference LOL). Lastly the awkward yet cute Froakie I can't really pinpoint it but he just has "It", despite being brought down by some due to being by what some consider yet another Frog Pokémon Froakie manages to be himself, I mean just look at him one would think he's probably not very smart but read part of this description from his entry "Froakie may appear absentminded, but in truth it pays close attention to its surroundings at all times" just that right should tell others not to judge a book by its cover. Before I go I'll leave you guys with a pic of Froakie and the other Starters...

I really like all the Pokemon this gen. Though I have to say, Talonflame and Flabebe are terrible names, lol. I plan on using most, if not all of the Pokemon they released on my first XY team.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

People are making top 6s? Okay, might as well hop on the bandwagon.

1. Skrelp
2. Pancham
3. Chespin
4. Talonflame
5. Sylveon
6. Helioptile

Seeing as how there are only two Pokemon I don't care for so far (and even then, I don't hate them, I just don't like them), I think this generation is shaping up to be absolutely stunning. Sure, the names aren't exactly inspiring, but the Pokemon themselves are brilliant and awesome. I didn't even expect to love Skrelp, and I didn't like Talonflame or Helioptile at first, but I warmed up to both of them quickly. Pancham has got to be the cutest fictional panda ever, Chespin is, IMO, the best starter in the entire series, and Sylveon has a unique design. All six of 'em are going to be on my team! That is, unless another fabulously stunning 'mon comes around...

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

That's not the only reason why people want more information. I for one want to know all the Pokemon so I can plan out what Pokemon I'd like to have in my team. I also don't mind if we see all the features, so I know what to expect and don't accidentally miss something. The only thing I don't want spoiled for me is the plot of the game, everything else I'm fine knowing, and it has nothing to do with being too impatient.

You're more than entitled to want to know what to plan out for your adventure, but imo that takes away the fun and anticipation of a new Gen. I'd rather be surprised, whether for good or bad, when I'm exploring a new region. I don't mind some things being revealed because it helps hype the game (and believe me, after all the updates we've seen, I'm more than hyped for October), but revealing everything so people can have their game plotted out exactly before it's even released just seems to take all the fun out of the region and sorta defeats the purpose of exploring in the first place.

Also, a lot of it does have to do with impatience. Not all the time mind you, and not for everyone, but I remember back when we didn't get anything from the May (iirc) volume of CoroCoro, and everyone was flipping their shit that GF/Pokemon Company DARED not to release more info. It was like everyone thought they were entitled to leaks or something and it was sort of irritating. I mean heck, we'll know everything soon enough, right? Okay maybe not soon ENOUGH because it feels like October is ages away, but you get the idea.

I'm totally starting with Fennekin and unless Litleo evolves into a badass manticore of epic proportions, I probably won't be switching Fenny out for one. And even though Talonflame is awesome for being a Flying/Fire starting bird, I'm a little irritated they went with Flying/Fire. That means x4 weakness to Rock and 50% HP loss from SR ;_;. I doubt its BST is going to be higher than Charizard's, either, so unless they give it some things it can pull off that Zard can't, I doubt Talon will be seeing more competitive play. Obviously it's way too early to say that for sure one way or the other and I hope it doesn't turn out that way.

Also Helioptile evolving into a nuclear Pokemon of some kind would be awesome. Can you say Godzilla-based Pokemon?

Tyranitar is already based off Godzilla though. If anything I can see Helioptile turn into either another Kaiju based mon or a Jurassic Park style Dilophosaurus that spits electrically charged spit.

To me, knowing what Pokemon that exist doesn't take away any fun or excitement. I'm just as excited playing a new Pokemon game whether I know or the Pokemon or not. I don't feel it takes away any fun or excitement from the exploring either. I'm still able to live the adventure (with a character I get to create, which is even more exciting) capture all the Pokemon, complete as many of the goals as possible, and look forward to training all the Pokemon I know is out there that I really want to train. There's plenty for me to get excited over besides which new Pokemon are in the new region, so knowing all the Pokemon beforehand doesn't ruin anything for me at all.

I'm definitely starting with Fennekin as well. I love the Fire type, it's one of my three favourite types, along with Dragon and Psychic. I wish I started off with Chimchar and Tepig when I first started my adventures in Sinnoh and Unova, however, I unfortunately took a while to warm up to them, and went for the Grass type instead. I like them both now though and I'd end up choosing them if I ever played through Gen IV or V again. I liked Charmander, Cyndaquil and Torchic right from the beginning, and I'm happy I feel the same with Fennekin too.

Heh, fans will have to agree to disagree on certain things. Like the whole "ERMAHGERD FAIREE IS A TYPE NAO", where a lot of us like the idea of it and a lot of us hate it, or how most everyone thinks Mew3 is ridiculous and there's always that Confession Bear person who's like "I think Mewtwo's Awakened Forme is nice". Or the fact that I'm getting sick to DEATH of Formes, but a friend of mine doesn't think we have many at all.

I've become a bit of a Poison fangirl in recent months, but Dragon, Fire, and Ghost are my favorite types. That being said, I like Charmander and Cyndaquil a lot, as well as their final stages, but I never really liked Torchic/Chimchar/Tepig. I almost always choose the Grass Starter when I first play a new Gen, so this will be one of those rare times that I pick a Fire Starter instead.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Tyranitar was based on a tyrannosaur.

Besides just having Tyrant in it's name, Tyranitar has more in common with Abelisaurs(like carnotaurus and majungasaurus), having a short wedge-shaped face and very very short chubby and almost completely useless arms(T.rex arms were well muscled and even had sharp thick claws) ,though Abelisaurs didn't likely even have claws, they didn't even have elbows. In fact, I'd almost call Tyranitar a bipedal armored majungasaurus, due to it's similarly super short legs. Compare to a T. rex specifically and the rest of tyrannosauroidea

It's much more clearly based on a Kaijuu though.

More on-topic.

Ugh, I want to know what Litleo evolves into so bad, it's killing me

Yes, Volcarona seem to be based on Mothra and well, even Tyranitar's pose on its artwork is Godzilla-like, it also looks a lot like the Kaijuu and not so much like a common Tyrannosaur. Hydreigon is a bit stretching, I admit, but I like to think that it is based on King Ghidorah. As far as Tokusatsu are concerned, there is also Bisharp who is supposedly based on Super Sentai villains.

I just realized this subject don't belong in this thread. Sorry.
