Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

We have been waiting 10 years for a possessed suit of armor pokemon. If we don't get it now I don't know when we'll be getting it. I do like the theory of a sword and a sheiks being version exclusives. A merge evolution into an actual suit of armor would be great, but they've always skirted around fusion evolutions because stats for it could be odd.

Reminds me of an enemy from Mother 3 that's a suit of armor you can fight as a whole or individually fight the sword, the shield, and the body.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I was thinking about how the Steel-type doesn't have many attacking moves that the sword Pokémon can use due to the lack of the required body parts. I don't see much of a reason for a Steel-type Slash-like move to be restricted to this Pokémon, but who knows?

Monorpale may have a (Steel-type?) signature move. In fact, it is used a completely new (and awesome) move in Masuda's video.

Also, of course it is a spirit/soul possessing a sword or something of sorts. It isn't a Ghost-type Pokémon for no reason. I also like the idea of version exclusives, but please no fusion. Please, just no.

It should be able to learn Metal Claw, I mean Ferroseed learns it and lacks limbs capable of scratching and Pawniard uses it's blades for it.

Ah. I saw that it didn't really have a claw for Metal Claw, but didn't realise claw-less Pokémon get it.

Well Metal Claw is all fine and dandy until you hit like level 30, after which it becomes too weak; it's going to need a stronger Steel move at some point. Same goes for Shadow Claw; it's just not good enough. Golurk only gets by with Shadow Punch because of Iron Fist.

Diglett can Scratch, Doduo can Fly. For all I know, it could even learn Iron Tail and I wouldn't be surprised.

I found another video with spanish subtitles and managed to translate the text at 4:06. The translator gave me this: "It comes in the form of a sword enclosing an old soul".
So it is a haunted/posessed sword.

Also if you look closely when Hitotsuki attacks Golem the actiual sword dissapears. Could it be part of an attack or is the "soul" able to become invisible?

I'm a native Spanish speaker, so if you handle me the Spanish script or a link to that video I can provide a 100% accurate translation (also, I wanna know everything he said xD).

Funny you mention that, because Shadow Claw is pretty much the strongest physical Ghost move other than Shadow Force.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Well, here is my amateur translation of the Spanish video. I am not a native speaker though. Perhaps VeggiePopper can provided a more polished version.

Masuda Junichi said:
This is the first simultaneous worldwide release of a Pokemon game. That means that everybody can start to battle and trade at the same time. Thinking about seeing that makes me very happy.

Well, I've kept this message especially for Nintendo's stand in Paris's Japan Expo, revealing only a certain amount of information about Pokemon X&Y.

The games takes place in Kalos, which was inspired by France. I had decided that one of the themes of the games would be beauty. Thinking of what place would fit best, one country came to mind. The country most visited by tourists. The country of style and culinary sophistication. The country of linguistic refinement...France! In fact, "Kalos" comes from the ancient Greek word for "beauty."

The first time I went to France was in 2000 for the premier of the Pokemon movie. 10 years later, in 2010, I came back by myself for a one month trip. When work finished on Pokemon Black and White, I went to Paris, Avignon, Arles, Marseille, Nice, Eze, Mont Saint-Michel, the Versailles castle and the Loira castles. I realized that everything there was beautiful.

In addition, in 2011, I went on another trip, this time a serious one with the whole team, in order to gather work material.

Illumis, the central city of Kalos, was inspired by Paris. Obviously, the whole team went there to research. The heart of France is clearly Paris! We've incorporated different Parisian elements everywhere.

Of course, we didn't limit ourselves to only Paris! We took inspiration from Lyon and Reims as well, among others. Look closely at the map of Kalos. All the way to the left, you can see a group of rocks lined up. I got the idea from Carnac. From Japan, it was impossible to find information about this. So, I had to go out there with a guide.

During the trip, we were accompanied by the game's French translation team, so there were no language problems. However, I was asked a lot, "Might you be Mr. Masuda from Game Freak?" And I thought, "Oh no! They're going to know that the game will be based in France!"

Attention: just because Kalos is based on France, doesn't mean it's a copy of reality. We have created a new world, and I hope you like it.

Of course there will be a ton of new Pokemon in this region. 20 have already been revealed. While I'm here, I'm going to show you one more. Its French name is Monorpale, and its Japanese name is Hitotsuki. This pokemon is a Steel/Ghost type. It is like a sword containing an ancient spirit.

Not more than 3 months remain until the games are released. Just so not everything is revealed and the whole world can discover for themselves what they offer in October, I'm going to stop here. Please bear with it.

Ah, before I forget, one last little thing. Poke-Amie! It's something that we have worked on a lot. I hope you like it. Personally, I like to pet my Pikachu.

Goodbye everybody!

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Here's my translation of what Masuda said:

Junichi Masuda said:
This is the first worldwide release of a Pokémon game. What I mean is that everybody will be able to start battling and trading at the same time. I’m really happy with the idea of seeing that. Anyways, I saved this message for Nintendo’s booth at Expo Japan in Paris to uncover certain information about Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

The events of these games take place in Kalos, which was inspired by France. I had decided that one of the games’ themes was to be beauty. Thinking of the place that corresponds best to that idea, it came to my mind the country tourists visit the most, the country of fashion and high cuisine, the country of linguistic refinement… France! Actually, the name ‘Kalos’ comes from ancient greek and means ‘beauty’.

The first time I ever came to France was in 2000 for the premiere of the first Pokémon movie’. 10 years later, in 2010, I came alone for a one month trip right after development for Pokémon Black Version and White Version ended. I was in Paris, Avignon, Arles, Marseille, Nice, Eze, Mt. St. Michael, Versailles Castle and the castles of Loire. I found out everything was beautiful. Afterwards, a bussiness trip in 2011 with the whole team this time, to collect work materials.

Lumiose, Kalos’ central city was inspired by Paris. Evidently the entire team went there to do research. Clearly Paris is the heart of France! We have included different Parisian elements everywhere. Of course, we didn’t limit ourselves to Paris, we also took inspiration from Lyon and Reims, among others. If you look closely at Kalos map, you’ll see on the west end a stone formation. The idea came to me from Carnac. I was unable to find the proper info on these formations in Japan, therefore I had to visit the place itself, accompanied by a tour guide. Throughout the trip we were joined by the members of the French localisation team for the games, so there wasn’t any linguistic problem.

But many times I was approached by people who asked: “Are you Mr. Masuda of Game Freak?”, and I thought: “GOD! They will find out the next games are based in France!”. But beware: just because Kalos is based off of France it doesn’t mean it’s just a carbon copy. We managed to create a brand new world, and I hope you like it. Of course there will be lots of new Pokémon in this region; about 20 of them had already been revealed. Now that I’m here, I’m going to reveal one more: its French name is Monorpale and its Japanese name is Hitotsuki. This Pokémon is a Steel/Ghost type. It appears in the form of a sword imprisoning an ancient soul.

It’s no longer than three months until the games’ launch. In order not to spoil everything so evryone can discover everything we will offer in October, I’m stopping here. Resist!

Oh, yes! Before I forget, there’s one more little thing: Pokémon Amie is a novel feature we have put so much work into. I hope you enjoy it. Myself, I love to pet my Pikachu. And that’s all! Goodbye everybody!

EDIT: Well, it seems Serpentsounds beat me to that, but I hope my version is still useful.

Hitotsuki is pretty nice, it's a pokemon I would've expected to appear for a good long time, as ghost/ possessed swords are in plenty of (j)rpgs

Hitotsuki, i can see being able to use shadow claw and iron claw, that ribbon thing is a hand, afterall. It'd just have to sheath itself when doing it, so as not to drop it's sheath.
Or it could just use it's sword-self to do it too.

I wonder if when you pet Hitotsuki in Pokemon amie, they'll animate little drops of blood falling from the hand cursor. That'd be a really nice touch.

After comparing both translations, I found one key difference: your version says Monorpale is a sword that contains a sword, while my version says the sword has the soul impriosioned; while subtle, it might make a big difference.

The Spanish text says "encerrando". "Containing" is a rough translation of the word, however encerrar means to contain something against its will, therefore, a more accurate translation is to lock, or to imprison.

However, this depends on how accurate the Spanish subtitles are. The French word used is "renfermant". Anybody here who can translate the word?

Sword aren't meant to float & fight on its own , Sword are meant to be wield !!!

You've never heard of dancing swords, bro? There's rampant in them animes and have had a presence in some mythologies such as those of the Middle East.

....How am I supposed to pet this thing?

;___;

Just like any other living weapon Spooky Sword here loves a nice and thorough polishing.

golurk.jpg
Though admittedly it's a possessed suit of clay / super ultra awesome mega mecha go! Pokemon.

Spooky Sword is just the best. It's nice to see some living object Pokemon already popping up. Gonna get along great with my Chespin and Skrelp I bet!

Looks like it has some aesthetic potential in doubles and triples:

Golurk may be a better center though.

Ah! Well, I'll trust you on that one. As far as "renfermant," it seems to be valid for either, according to wordreference.com. At a glance the Spanish translation seems to be made reliably enough, so I would trust the connotations of "encerrar." Good catch!

It cannot be any worse than petting a Magmar.

I am hoping Hirotsuki will have some interesting back story along the lines of this: An old legend tells us that the first appearances of Hirotsuki started as a mystical sword stuck in a stone. Warriors from across the land all attempted and failed at removal said sword from the stone. Soon afterwards nobody came to see the sword and attempt to retrieve it, which led to the sword feeling neglected and disregarded, therefore giving off a negative energy. It is said a spirit that feeds off negative energy has made home in this sword.

A back story similar to that would be interesting to see.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Some people see something of LoZ reflected in Monopale. Me? This thing just screams Zanpakuto imo lol. I imagine this as the Shikai; then if it evolves, depending on what it is it'd be like Bankai. After all, Komamura's Bankai is a huge samurai golem thing, so even of Monopale (hopefully) becomes a suit of haunted armor, it could still be all Bankai lol.
