Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I am hoping Hirotsuki will have some interesting back story along the lines of this: An old legend tells us that the first appearances of Hirotsuki started as a mystical sword stuck in a stone. Warriors from across the land all attempted and failed at removal said sword from the stone. Soon afterwards nobody came to see the sword and attempt to retrieve it, which led to the sword feeling neglected and disregarded, therefore giving off a negative energy. It is said a spirit that feeds off negative energy has made home in this sword.

A back story similar to that would be interesting to see.
I'd really like a legend like that, too. I hope there will be only one sword per playthrough, like with Zorua or most gift Pokemon. Having a bunch of them available in the wild would sort of cheapen the legend, in my eyes.

I imagine my idea being a sort of ancient legend, where the current Hirotsuki are descended from ancient Hirotsuki that were supposedly born from this legend. That way it would make sense for several Hirotsuki to exist in the Pokemon world.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I'd prefer it if Hirotsuki had a unique ability similar to Moxie that resulted in an increased Attack and Special Attack after defeating a Pokemon, and it's origin story being a cursed sword that came to life by "feeding off the energy of those it has slain" or a Pokemon born from the negative energy given off by its opponents when defeated. Perhaps give it an ability that is similar to Shell Bell to reflect "feeding off" of the enemy's defeat? Either way that would explain how the initial population came to life.

I also don't know why people expect it to have separate forms just because it unsheathes itself. We have B/W-Kyurem having been depicted in its normal and "turbo charged" forms but merely being sprite differences. We can achieve better animations now, so why not that? I mean, I'm kind of disappointed that Talonflame is being described as a bird that can burst into flames when it flies and I haven't seen a single screen shot of it do that even as a simple battle animation. Even just flapping and creating embers.

Same goes for Shadow Claw; it's just not good enough. Golurk only gets by with Shadow Punch because of Iron Fist.

Funny you mention that, because Shadow Claw is pretty much the strongest physical Ghost move other than Shadow Force.

I know. That's why I mentioned it :p

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

The tradition of kickass ghost pokemon designs continues~! ♥ I think I like this pokemon better than even Chandelure. It's a serious consideration. I am so ready for this gen, it's gonna be a good'un!

I'm honestly so psyched about this super-special-awesome-chocolatey-fudge-covered-mega-cool ghost pokemon, that I don't really give a crap about anything else regarding it as long as it is usable as a party pokemon so I can tote that shit around in my party and slaughter some b*tches. (I don't want another disappointment like Purrloin/Liepard...that thing is practically unusable, it sucks so hard. It was so cute that i tried it anyway but it was a no go for me.) I wonder if Hitotsuki will evolve into that haunted full plate armor people have been wanting? Or an even cooler, more elaborate sword. Or it might not evolve. I wouldn't be too sad if that was the case, though I think it looks like it could have a single evo.

Personally I don't think it will have a 'moxie'-like ability, unless it straight up has Moxie. While there are a few abilities that are pretty much retreads of each other, I don't think moxie is one of those they will copy and just slap a different name onto. I think hitotsuki will probably have something unique, but barring that I think Cursed Body, Levitate, Heat Proof and Technician are contenders for an ability slot. I'm also thinking Justified, if they made the ability also grant immunity to dark-type moves (which is in line with some of the changes GF has made to abilities recently). I would really freaking love that, actually. Like, a lot.

I think the sword's separation from the sheath is just part of the battle animation. I don't think GF would have shown it without mentioning that it has different forms, if it did, since they show it with both appearances. Cofagrigas, for instance, sucks its arms in and closes up like to look like a 'regular' (i.e. not possessed) sarcophagus in it's BW/BW2 animations at various points, which does look different from it's full-on possessed look in most art, so it wouldn't be the first time. Barring that though, I can see it having a unique ability that makes it's form change, somewhat like Darmanitan's Zen Mode. Basically while the pokemon's HP is over 50%, it's in Sheath Mode, with high defense and low attack, but once it reaches below 50% it turns into Sword Mode and the stat's flip flop, with high attack and low defense. Maybe vice versa. Something like that.

Also, @Neon Borealis; and anyone who cares, here are examples of why I see "Zelda Wind Waker" when I look at this pokemon. I mean, it's not like it's exact or anything, it's just the tassel with the swirly design on it, the vaguely celtic-looking sheath decorations, and the flat-color just really brings it to mind for me.

So Gogoat knows Vine Whip. Considering it has a bush on its body, I expect Razor Leaf.

Hitotsuki's English name seems to be Honedge. Sounds pretty nice, imo.

"In Kalos, there are many new pokemon, we revealed 20 of them so far."

And the first one on the picture is Mewtwo.

Conclusion - Mewtwo is obtainable in Kalos :3

Well it's the new Mewtwo forme; maybe all that means is that when you transfer over the Mewtwo from the movie, and do something, it'll transform into this new forme.

They have this weird habit of counting formes as new pokemon. :/

Technically, if he said "in Kalos there is that pokemon" then it means it resides in Kalos, not only for those who transfer it. But fair enough, you might be right. Mew was also said to be in Kanto, but it was never officialy possible for it to be obtained in-game, it was obtainable only through attending nintendo events, and a transferred reward from another spin-off franchises.

Yes Gamefreak has been treating formes as new pokemon for a while, plus we still apparently dont "know" if its a new forme or not, even though we see it changing forme freely in the movie.

Honedge.png

High-quality official art. (edit: Ok, that's bigger than it seemed before I posted it xD)

I'm not sure about the name Honedge personally. It rolls off the tongue easy enough and does sound cool, but it doesn't give off a ghost-vibe even a little. It just sounds like a regular sword. Something a little spookier would have been nicer. But this is just me complaining for no reason really, since the name definitely isn't bad by any means.

"Honedge comes into being when a departed spirit possesses a sword that once belonged to humans. It can use the blue cloth attached to its hilt as nimbly as an arm. Pokémon Trainers who carelessly take this blade in hand may find the blue cloth wrapping itself around them and draining their energy!"

Okay, now I'm curious.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I am pleasantly surprised that the first Ghost-type we have is this one, because it's something I am interested in! Since I am a fan of inorganic things, this one would be great, and there's that Steel/Ghost-type, a sweet combination that would be great on a Ghost team. I envisioned it to be wielded by Golurk as soon as I saw Honedge, because I felt they were suited for each other since I thought Honedge will be a big sword.

Being at 80cm, Honedge doesn't seem to easily be wielded by so many Pokemon because they don't seem tall enough to handle it, but since it is an automated sword and it is relatively light (around 2kg or 4.4lbs), I guess it isn't much of an issue. Seems weird that Honedge was given to some small stuff in fan art, but I could give the benefit of doubt since its height wasn't known.

Thanks for reading.
