I have a suspicion that Clauncher and Skrelp might end up being version exclusives.

If that is the case, I hope Skrelp is exclusive to Y.

Talking about Skrelp, any ideas in regards of how its evolution might look like?

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Well I hope it's just going to become a bigger (and more weedy) weedy sea dragon. I really quite like this design, aswell as this one for it. Both seem quite natural and realistic evolutions for it imo, so hopefully something similar to those (but better of course). There's also this one that has gender differences, but I don't like it; there's too much going on both.

I think it's possible. If so, I hope that at the very least they're both three-stage lines. I would hate for Clauncher to be a two-stage line and be compared to Corphish and Crawdaunt.

Eh, I am not a big fan of "bigger" evolutions a la Generation I, but I would be okay with something like the second fake evolution that you posted. By the way, I love Skrelp's visual in this particular picture, it looks more like it is wearing a hat, although the "hat" doesn't look much like one in Ken Sugimori's art. That single feature makes me wonder if it will really evolve into a simple bigger weedy sea dragon.

I think both will be two stage. Or at least that's just the feeling I have right now.

Really, I want Clauncher to gain a type upon evolving, because pure Water is too bland for my liking and a pistol shrimp has potential to be so much more than a pure Water.

I love those Skrelp evo designs, especially the one from Pixiv.

Water/Fire-type would be a fun combination, and is possible. Skrelp should be Water/Poison-type throughout, though.

You know, I think a Clauncher evolution has the possibility to be the first with a Water/Fire combination. The pistol shrimp can produce cavitation bubbles by snapping its specialized claw shut, and as the bubbles collapses they reach temperatures of over 4,700 °C. I'm not hoping too much of course, haha, but it would be so awesome. Seriously, this is probably the closed we'll ever get to a possible Water/Fire type, imo. With some imagination I'm sure they could pull it off.

I remember actually talking about wanting a pistol shrimp Pokemon in another thread before XY was announced. Now that we have it, I really cannot wait to see what they'll do with it.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I'm hoping for Water/Fire too, yeah. Although I've seen Water/Electric suggested, which I wouldn't mind either. We have only have three Water/Electric types currently, so it's not very common.

Skrelp is going to stay Poison/Water, I'm sure. Which is neat, since the last dual Water and Poison was Qwilfish back in Gen II and before that we only had Tentacool and Tentacruel, so that's not a common combination either.

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

Water/Poison is really nice. It can super effectively hit Ground, Rock, Fire, Grass and now Fairy. And 7 resistances are a huge plus - including very important resistances to Fighting and Ice. Any words on Poison types resisting Fairy attacks? That would be lovely too. Do you guys think that it would make any sense?

I'll never understand why all the fanart of Golurk swinging a Honedge has Honedge still in its sheath.

You guys should know that Honedge is pronounced with a silent "H".

Also have some nice fanart:
View attachment 88272

It could be based off either hone or honour/honour, or both. Until we know more I don't think we can definitely say whether or not the 'H' is silent. That being said, I've been pronouncing is as silent.

I constantly find myself pronouncing Pokemon names incorrectly, and when the pronunciation is shown it takes a lot of time to get used to. I.e. I was calling Kyurem "Ky-u-rem" (i.e. breaking it up, not "cure-em") and the proper still sounds weird. I've been saying Honedge as "Hone-edge" which is fairly dumb upon reflection but whatever. I don't follow the anime too much so I'm not concerned haha

I guess you guys haven't picked up on the pun.

Well don't hold out on us.

If the pun is that the Pokemon is constantly 'on edge', that's a little lame...

Re: Revealed Gen VI Pokemon Discussion/Speculation Thread

I would love to see Clauncher gain another type upon evolution, but it's just too blue for that. :p I've heard rumors that when it evolves, it could gain the fire type and one claw would shoot water with the other shoot fire. I know this isn't official, but I would enjoy most of This being true.

If there's going to be a Water/Fire Pokemon then I want to see a Fighting/Flying Pokemon too. Can't let Water be the only type mixed with everything, can we?

I'd much rather see it mixed with Steel. I know that we've had a Water/Steel before, but I think it's a great type and would fit a crustacean pretty well. I'd love it to be a fast, with decent attack and HP, gaining defensive utility thanks to its awesome typing.

I don't know if this has been said, but is it possible that (in addition to "hone") Honedge could be a play on "on edge" (as in somewhat irritable)?
