I think the version system isn’t going anywhere. There's simply too much $£€ in the idea for GameFreak to refuse. I just hope they don’t cost $60 (but I think they'll cost exactly that). $50 would be a nice middle point imo.

The versions should have greater and major differences now they cost us more on the Switch.

Pokemon was created with the idea of trading in mind. Yes, this is moot ever since they allowed that to be done over wi-fi, but it does still make them more money. (and if you ask me, it's WHY pokemon sells more)

No? I've said that I think March will be when it happens based on what we know, but I don't think I've ever said that my source specifically stated March would be the time of the announcement. Maybe I wasn't clear enough and that's my bad. At this point they think E3 will be when the game gets announced based on their info. That's the only time they've ever told me a specific time for when they think the game will come. We shall see what happens tho.

Hm, that’s very interesting! I’m not sure how credible your sources are but I would find it a bit strange if they announce it AT the e3 event and from what your saying, it sounds like they are planning on what they want to do at e3 already which seems a little bit early for me. Considering, to my knowledge, a Pokémon game has never been official announced at e3. It’s always been small trailers/videos, live gameplay or nothing. GF always seem to do their own thing.

Honestly, who knows? GF has never made a core home console Pokémon game yet so they might possibly do thing completely different this time. We’ll have to wait and see.

Are they pretty confident that E3 will be when they announce the games? Or do they think E3 is a possible choice? Last are they also predicting early 2019 or is that your assumption? Because If early 2019 is true then I am pretty bummed out. I would really love the games to come out in December or at the very least know more about the games before E3.

Like I said they told me it's not concrete, but that's what they're leaning towards based on the info they have. And 2019 is my guess. If they announce in June there's no way they'll release it this year.

When and if we actually get concrete info .Haha
What does your source have to say about the starters leaked?

Fake.

I believe my source is the same as one of @lavandula so I'd say they're pretty credible. That said people can make mistakes so as with every rumor take it all with a grain of salt

I can see them making a Pokemon presentation for E3. Is it possible it's not REVEALING the games, but rather one of the info dumps for the next game and it could still be revealed earlier?

They could definitely reveal the titles of new games this month/early March and do a proper presentation at E3. That isn't that much different promo schedule when compared to S/M. I imagine they would mostly reveal a couple of new Pokemon, maybe a short battle footage. Then at the E3 they would demonstrate how the game looks and functions.

They will first reveal Zeroara and then the new games and i doubt they will do it in the same month.

I'm not getting my hopes up for a 2018 release just yet, though a part of me does seem to think that GameFreak has realized that they need to start releasing new generations faster - due to the rising number of players who have "caught 'em all" throughout the years and the lower number of new Pokemon per Generation, people seem to be getting bored with the games and tend to stop playing once they beat the Elite Four unless they're competitive online players.

Gen VI offered us ORAS for variation to tide us through 2015, but this Gen is going to be worse as players have experienced more of the same fare with USUM. I think an E3 announcement of the Switch game followed by a timely release in late 2018 would be a great way to keep up the hype and anticipation. If I remember correctly the official Volcanion reveal was well after Sun & Moon were already being teased?

BUT I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. Personally I think spring/summer 2019 is more likely.

I would definitely prefer for them to take their time, but the fandom is going to murder them because they expect a game every year now.

In Emerald when it came between choosing whether Latias or Latios was roaming you had to answer a question. Similarly in Platinum some of the things that were version exclusive in diamond or pearl depended on what was the last digit of your ID number.

Ah, I see. I forgot about the [email protected] question, and had no idea about Platinum - found online that the ID determines which fossil you get in the Underground.

I doubt that. Not everyone expects it. I don’t and I know plenty on here don’t. Making games ain’t easy. Yes they are releasing them with less years between but no one expects them to go releasing them yearly. The only reason people are expecting any possible 2018 release is because of the hints they’ve been dropping.

Anyone who is associated with @lavandula is very credible in my book.

This is interesting: http://vgculturehq.com/rumor-nintendo-e3-lineup-leaked-skyward-sword-hd-will-be-shown-at-e3/

This article shows a rumor/leak from a supposed insider who got installation instructions for the setup of games at Nintendo's E3 2018 stage in Los Angeles. Could be fake, could be real. I'm leaning towards fake because the line-up sounds too good to be true and it's also really quite early for E3 leaks. Anyways, among one of the titles that the poster mentioned was Pokémon for the Switch. They just said that Generation 8 would come in two versions. They don't know what the names of the titles will be. It's a little odd to me that they wouldn't know the names of the games either, so that's another reason why I think this is fake. What you think? Is this real or fake? If this is right, it supports your source saying that Pokémon for Switch could debut at E3.

And later some part of that fandom will complain so harshly about games being "rushed" (which may or maybe not be an issue on the Switch games. And I enjoyed SM even when it was clear they couldn't finish Poni Island).
I mean, yeah, everyone can have an opinion but experience tells me that Pokémon fandom is, in general, a bit spoiled.

I don't even find surprising Masuda had to say "making the new game is difficult so I hope people don't get their expectations too high". I understand this is something very awful coming from a dev but at the end of the day I just somewhat believe this is not a dumb thing to remark? Some people out there are waiting for a BotW-level game or overhyping themselves just to later on complain how bad is the game.

Don't get me wrong — demanding quality is obviously a good thing. It's required I'd say. Demanding quality while also wanting a game to come out when you want and also a triple A level game is just something I can't understand. Of course it would be GREAT but I don't get why comparing Odyssey or BotW —games with clearly a lot more of development cycle— with this new Pokémon Switch game.

Personally I wish they took their time to do the game they want to do, without deadlines. But it's kinda sad we have got into this point. I guess I just want a game where I can battle, trade, filling a Pokédex, breed, etc. The basic stuff, you know. But I hope they polish their own game and we don't have to wait to remakes/the second pair of Switch games for a good and stable game perfomance.

Apparently that source predicted the switch january event of 2017, so the credible just went up. Still too good to be true imo

I personally believe that the gen 8 games will be revealed this month.

What makes you say that tho? Even if the game does get announced soon all signs point to March being the earliest. They may announce Zeraora and the new games in the same month, but that seems unlikely

I knew I recognized the poster's profile picture from somewhere. It was from that leak. So yeah, it's apparently from someone who has a good track record or just makes really good guesses. And I also agree with you. All of what the poster is saying sounds way too good to be true. I doubt they would do this much for E3 2018. Unless Nintendo is really desperate to top E3 2017's performance.
