I see the point you're trying to make but I don't think Gamefreak is that much concerned with creating a region that's a carbon copy of the real-life location it is based on (as TheMonster6893 already pointed out). They can freely insert some more recognisable elements to keep it interesting. For example, Alola had Malie City which was heavily inspired by Johto (aka Japan). Also, the choice of new Pokemon can help with it. For example, Kalos (based on France) had a Pokemon based on a frill-necked lizard while Alola (based on Hawaii) had a Pokemon based on koala and red panda. They can definitely play around that.I can't see Sri Lanka being the region. So far all the regions have been Japanese, or places Japanese people like to visit. I believe Masuda stated that specifically when talking about why they choose Hawaii and before that France.
I could be wrong, but I don't think many Japanese people visit India, certainly not Sri Lanka, they're not really places I imagine Japanese fans being interested in. I think Spain, the UK and Italy remain the top 3 contenders.
