Currently I am not sure what to believe. Evidence points towards them being fake. Did something like this happen with the Alola starter leak? Or was the Japanese perfect in the concept sheets? Just curious
Also remember Hawlucha? People where going on about it being fake because it was “too blurry”, and the wing count was off and the dex number was wrong because it belonged to another Pokémon and it’s item is where it’s ability is supossed to be. Or the Alola starter leak not looking like normal concept sheets, and a bunch of other “inconsistencies”. This could be similar. Maybe.

too much strange, there are no sideview for the last one, also it seems the same frame for all the 3 images, you can see from the strange marker on the wall on the right. I think it is a fake, even if the grass one is really cool.

these sheets are for the 3d modelers so they can do the 3d models. If you don't have a side view, like the last one, you cannot make a 3d model. so it is fake

So something new has surfaced. Not sure what to make of it. Seems like something gamefreak would do. Also can’t trace it back to some original art.

And TBH I wouldn’t be surprised if gamefreak did something like this and framed their concept art and put it on their walls

I actually remember a 4chan leak that was describing the starters looking very similar to this. The only thing it was off was the grass starter but everything else looks to be very similar.

Here it is:/vp/ - Pokemon Switch - Pokémon - 4chan

What do you guys think? Could these starters actually be real?

The problem with those examples are that they were all perspective and opinion. People went on about Hawlucha because due to the view we couldn't get a straight look at how many wing points it had and we had no idea the Kalos dex was split into 3 zones. The reason people thought the starter concepts were deemed fake at first was because of the timing of it coming out and how blurry the text was. In both of those cases it was a matter of opinion and not knowing a crucial detail. In this case the text is clearly readable and apparently the grammar is off. I find it hard to believe that GF would frame a piece of concept art that had grammar errors without fixing it first. It's a very convincing set of art and if that error wasn't there it'd be even more believable, but the fact is it's a little silly to think a professional company would allow something that they base all of their future work on to have errors. They'd have fixed it first before putting it in glass.

I don't know, I still remember people saying there were things that pointed towards the alolan starters being fake. When they were proven real it only convinced me that GF might be a bit unprofessional when it comes to their artwork. Also I wouldn't take colors to account either since Rowlet and Litten were primarily brown and black rather than green or orange/red.

I would say even if we are gonna compare these to older concept art I don't think it's fair to compare them to final evolution artwork. Looking at the XY starter concept sheets these match the simpleness that those have. For the first stages they don't need crazy drawings showing them doing major actions like we see the final Alolan starters art. (Incinieroar doing wrestling moves, Decidueye drawing its bow, Primarina singing) Technically the way these are drawn do match the first stage art of the XY starters. At least to some degree. They don't need to show them all in the exact same poses. When they draw concept art it's to illustrate the features of that individual Pokemon. so some poses make sense for one Pokemon while others don't. We don't need to see all of them stomping their feet because that pose is only relevant to the horse for example. That all said it's not looking good for these 3. I just can't get around the text error.

But like what? When you look at something that has a 50/50 chance at being real or fake your eyes start to trick you into thinking there are inconsistencies. Many of the people that thought the Alolan starters were fake were saying so because they wanted them to be so. Design choices are hard to understand until you hear ti directly form the source. Otherwise people could have said that Inciniraors hands being as big as they are are an inconsistency. There's nothing to mistake about Grammar tho. It's either written correctly or it's not. There's no room for interpretation.

EDIT: Also just for the record. Just because the water starter isn't a bright blue or in the range of older water starters doesn't mean it's not blue. It's more of a grey blue yes, but it's still technically blue. There's nothing stooping them from skewing towards that shade of blue rather than making it brighter.

I remember the inconsistency that people pointed was that all of them didn't have they're name on the sheet. Just Owl3, Tiger3, and Sea lion3. THink they said it makes no sense cause Litten wasn't a tiger but cat, therefore the tiger part didn't make sense. Plus they added they would've been named if the were the final designs. Imma still keep this in the 50/50 range. It has that GF feel that most artist don't have so I'll keep eyes on it just in case.

Also I wouldn't take colors to account either since Rowlet and Litten were primarily brown and black rather than green or orange/red.

You're right about the primary colors, but they both had prominent secondary colors and features representing the usual starter types. Litten still has so much red in its design that it is very difficult to interpret as anything other than a Fire type or possibly a Dark type, which it evolves into anyways. Rowlet may not have as much green in its design as other Grass starters but it's still there, and it also has the leaf bowtie to make its typing obvious.

The coral no blue whatsoever, nor any waves/bubbles/obvious water symbolism such as shells to indicate its typing either. The only reason to think it's a Water type is the coral inspiration, which evokes the idea of a Rock type just as much if not more than that a Water type, but the leak claims it's pure Water. The only colors are green and gray, which are associated with Rock, Ground, and Grass more than Water.

If I just looked at it without the context of it being a starter, I would guess pure Rock or maybe Rock/Ground, with Rock/Water being only my third choice or so.

Additionally, the starters are always explicitly animals, presumably because it makes them more relateable to players. I don't see them breaking both that trend and the color trend with exactly one starter while leaving the other two new starters completely in line with tradition.

Actually Corals are animals believe it or not. Sessile animals to be exact. Ocean life can be weird. But it doesn't have to necessarily be be Rock, since corals are hard. I mean it would fit but they don't have to go in that direction since Corsala exists.

The problem with their argument is that tigers are classified as "big cats" so there was never a legs to stand on in that side of the argument. As far as the names go idk. People can assume all they want as to why the SM final starter concept art didn't have names at that point, but the fact of the matter is it was all opinion at that point. There wasn't anything that was specifically false about them. Only things that people could perceive as such. Grammar errors are something you can't interpret. It's either correct or wrong. There's no room for an argument. Unless you wanna say that GF decided it was fine and just framed it without fixing it. In that case I could say it's an easy fix and would take no time at all. Why not go that extra inch to make sure it's perfect? It's not like they had to redraw the entire thing. All they had to do was fix the text.

As unprofessional as it sounds, what if they just let it slide? Like what if they didn't care about errors? Is that a possibility or unlikely.

OK, "animals" was the wrong word (I'm so mad at myself for typing that, I swear I know what coral is) but there's still a huge difference between coral and geckos/cats/penguins/all other previously existing starter animals. Bonding with a mammal, reptile/amphibian, or bird is going to be completely different from bonding with a colony of invertebrates.

My point with the typings wasn't that it had to be Rock, it was that it didn't jump out a Water type, despite starters always having some of the easiest typings to identify. Were this the only issue the art had, it might have had a decent chance of being real, but in combination with the iffy grammar I think too many things don't add up.

I honestly hope people conserve their hype for these (apparently) fake starters. I'd really ahte for the really ones to get revealed in a month or 2 and have everyone dislike/hate them just because they aren't like these. Expectations can ruin good things. I'm sure the starters will be good, but if everyone wants these to be them so bad they don't like the real ones then it will get annoying quick.

A coral can work as a starter, but not really pure water. Water/rock or water/bug maybe. Those are the supposed first stages after all. But i doubt that they would add another pure water again at this point, especially a coral.

I'd believe the leak if it were not for the supposed grammatical errors. To me its fake.

I mean these are the same guys that made a mantis pokemon pure grass instead of bug/grass, especially since it's counterpart is still a bug that on disguises as a plant.

Yeah we'll be careful, but it's still the most interesting of things we had in a while in this fake leak drought.

I'm not so sure about this leak. There's just something off about these, such as no side views, and the fact that others have said the Japanese is kinda off. Plus, the Water type starter doesn't look that marketable. I think fans would be happy with a grass bear and a fire horse, but coral? It doesn't have the cutesy charm that a cute turtle, crocodile, axolotl, penguin, sea otter, frog, or a sea lion had.

I find it rather cute. Look at it buried in the ground sleeping. It'd probably be the Popplio of the gen and you know what I mean
