Additionally, there are a few storyline changes relevant to the dex and distribution changes, including several events for all of the 4th gen mythicals in the game:

-The Super Rod is now obtained in Canalave City instead of post game.

-After becoming Champion, Cynthia calls you over to the Galactic HQ, triggering the Platinum Episode. Once there, you meet with Saturn who has been studying a dimensional anomaly that happened after the events at Spear Pillar. He notices that the same anomaly has been occurring at Spear Pillar and Turnback Cave, and asks for your help in investigating it. He leaves to check out Spear Pillar and you and Cynthia investigate Turnback Cave. You catch Giratina soon after you begin and at the completion of the Platinum Episode you can Arceus.

-After becoming Champion, you are allowed into Snowpoint Temple. At the bottom, you will see the statue of Regigigas, interacting with it will cause ruins to unlock all across Sinnoh allowing you to capture Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Regieleki, and Regidrago. Once all of them are captured, return to the statue and put them in your party. Each Regi will activate a pillar associated with their element, and once all of them are lit, you may interact with Regigigas and catch it.

-After completing the Platinum Episode, several new story events open up. One has you catching UBs that appear in Sinnoh. If you go back to Spear Pillar you will witness a Cosmog creating an Ultra Wormhole and appearing in Sinnoh, joining your team. However, this also causes Ultra Wormholes to appear throughout the region and UBs to appear. Saturn and the Ultra Recon Squad appear shortly after with the Ultra Recon Squad having approached Saturn shortly before the Cosmog appeared, and they explain to you about Cosmog, Ultra Wormholes, and UBs and ask you to help find the Ultra Wormholes and shut them down. Saturn will give you the location of an Ultra Wormhole and you can go there to catch the UB, shutting down the Ultra Wormhole in that area. After completing, the Ultra Recon Squad will give you Poipole. Necrozma will also appear in Spear Pillar once completed.

-After completing the Platinum Episode, if you go back to Backlot's Mansion you will see the book about Manaphy. He will then explain the legend of Manaphy to you and tell you that Professor Rowan knows more about it. Professor Rowan will inform you that Manaphy Eggs are rarely found near Sinnoh's coastal areas. Just then, Lucas/Dawn will enter and tell yhou and Professor Rowan of rumors of a Manaphy Egg that washed up near Pastoria City and you leave. However, a Galactic grunt overhears this and decides to steal it for himself to sell for profit. Youand Lucas/Dawn then go to Pastoria City to witness the Egg, but then the Galactic Grunt steals it. You then track him down to the Galactic Eterna Buiding and defeat him, but then the Egg hatches and it is just a Phione Egg. Lucas/Dawn explains about Phione and then they bring the Phione back to Pastoria City. You and Lucas/Dawn then walk over to Rt. 213 to discuss the events that just transpired when suddenly Lucas/Dawn sees something shining across the water. You then Surf over to the shallows to find a real Manaphy egg.

-After completing the Platinum episode, Eldritch's son will begin having nightmares in Canalave City as in the original, and once again you must go to Fullmoon Island to find the Lunar Wing. However, when you try to cure his son, he recovers briefly and then starts having nightmares again, with the nightmares getting stronger and affecting everyone in Canalave City. You then goes into Canalave Library to research the cause when you find out a similar incident occured at the Harbor Inn years ago. You go to the Harbor Inn to ask about the nightmares, but the innkeeper insists you rest. You refuse and end up battling him. After defeating him he mysteriously disappears and beckons you to come to Newmoon Island. You go there and find that Darkrai is responsible for the nightmares, but he instantly puts you to sleep using Dark Void. However, Cresselia comes to aid you following the glow of the Lunar Wing, and wakes you up and weakens Darkrai's nightmares. You then get to battle and capture it. After defeating it, Sailor Eldritch appears and reports that the nightmares have stopped. He then informs the player that he contacted Professor Rowan about the incident and Professor Rowan speculates that Darkrai may have sustained injuries as a result of the incidents at Spear Pillar, triggering the nightmares. He then tells you to take good care of Darkrai and thank Cresselia the next time you see it before taking you back to Canalave. After the events at Newmoon Island, Cresselia will roam Sinnoh.

-After escorting Marley to Rt. 224, she sees the White Rock, but cannot determine its purpose. However, Professor Rowan appears and agrees to help research it and Marley leaves with him. After completing the Platinum Episode, he finds that the White Rock has been referenced in Floaroma Town's history and sends you and Marley there to investigate. You then speak with an old man in Floaroma Meadow who tells you of the legend of Floaroma Town and mentions that a similar White Rock also once existed in Floaroma Town and someone expressed gratitude before the rock and the field became filled with flowers. You and Marley then go back to Rt. 224 to do the same, which causes Seabreak Path to appear and allow you to proceed to Flower Paradise to catch Shaymin.
I think GameFreak would relegate at least some of these events to a future DLC pack... The ideas themselves are great, and I specially like your ideas for the regional variants! (I always dreamt of a Dragon/Fairy evolution for Dragonair)

Considering their rich lore and story involvement, I could very well see Darkrai and Arceus becoming "regular" in-game Legendaries. They just seem to be too relevant to not get a decent story arc in the remakes, plus Darkrai is obviously part of a duo with Cresselia, while Arceus leads both the Creation Trio and the Lake Trio. Perhaps Darkrai would be in the main game and Arceus could come via DLC?

Shaymin and Manaphy feel more like "traditional" Mythicals to me, although I hope that at least Shaymin gets to keep its little Flower Paradise event, considering how distributions have been handled since gen. 5.

I would be fine with that. The storyline events are a little much, so I could see some of these being sold as DLC. But I don't want them to reserve too much for DLC, this isn't all that much more content than the original DP, so that's about all they should really reserve as DLC. They also should price them more appropriately or tack even more content on if they're going to sell these as DLC, a few storyline events wouldn't really be worth $30.

I think 5$ per event should be reasonable enough. These are for individual Pokemon that you get through a quick event, after all, so the price shouldn't even be the typical DLC price for other games.

I don't think it's reasonable. Despite being a far common and "acceptable" practice in the gaming community, no game that has its content cut before launch and that is made in order to sell it latter should be reasonable. Also, why putting Pokémon behind paid DLC that were previously available through an event? GF already does the minimum so why allow them to profit and promote such acts?

Out of an entire area of hundreds of tiles, how are you going to find the right one?

I mean, the sparkles have been working just fine for me, so I honestly cannot say this is something I've experienced to be a problem. They gleam pretty obviously, and I go get them. Not once have I ever felt lost when going to pick one up.

Under ideal circumstances maybe, but Joycon drift has been screwing that up for me and presumably a lot of other people, so that 3 second difference can end up longer.

Okay but that's more of a Nintendo issue. It should be a bigger priority for Nintendo to fix it rather than burdening other studios with designing their games around it.

Those visual indicators usually don't trigger unless you leave the area, so you can end up caught off guard when the time changes without you realizing.

We really do need two screens back, hopefully Nintendo finds a way to make it work for the Switch's successor. But as far as right now, the apps I mentioned give the player access to information they either don't typical have or couldn't get as quickly, so it'd be better to keep those. Plus the Poketch is too ingrained into the story and lore of the game and especially Jubilife City and the game would definitely be losing a part of its identity by scrapping it. In a future game that isn't a remake maybe I would integrate some of these features into things like the Town Map and PC, but since this is a remake where they already have an established mechanic for these apps I'd rather they just build around that and improve on it than reinvent the wheel.

I'm not entirely sure that's true; I may be misremembering but I recall the Alola games transitioning between day and night. Or maybe that was just during battles? At any rate, that's an improvement they could probably look into making in general: a smoother real-time overworld transition between the phases of the day. (Although it occurs to me that SwSh largely forewent the problem by having everywhere except the overworld be locked to a certain time for the duration of the story, though that is a weird "solution.")

That being said, you are right in that I can't really picture them dumping the Pokétch completely, since it is a key part of Sinnoh's profile. Much as I genuinely do not buy the idea that it's that much of an inconvenience for most people to simply glance up at a real clock, if the Pokétch is going to be there, then I guess it might as well have a clock since the "étch" part implies that it's a watch.

Were this a question of where an in-game clock could go in SwSh, I think here would be the most obvious candidate.

I've never really made use of it myself, but I've heard of several people using it for EV Training. Presumably they would just count however many EVs they earned after each battle.

Man, I think EV training as a whole still needs a radical reimagining. I appreciate all they've done to make it more accessible and less of a grind, but the numbers still feel very nebulous and abstract to me.

Individual steps might not matter, but a better indication of how long it would take to hatch besides the generic blurb in the Egg's summary screen would definitely be helpful, especially for some of the species that take longer to hatch.

As it happens, I think they could just as easily say explicitly how many steps are needed on that summary screen, and that's a change that would be far more likely to survive into future games than something bound to the Pokétch, even though the Pokétch's step display is slightly more convenient.

It's not just the day of the month that Calendars are used for and really the date itself rarely every plays a factor in Pokemon games (in fact aside from Unova having seasons and events I can't think of any). But they're also used for the day of the week which has been used more frequently and is used in DP for catching Drifloon.

Actually, have they been used more frequently? There are things you can do once a day, and I can't look up an exhaustive list at the moment, but my gut feels like we've been seeing less and less of stuff that can only be done on a certain day.

Having a visual indicator of which days the event lasts would be quicker and easier to understand than a text blurb in the Switch's News app. And again, you wouldn't need to press the Home button and exit the game to see it, it'd be right there.

That's entirely true, I'm just not sure it's enough that they would feel the need to accommodate it within the game design.

Oh yes, that would be good! Or they could even release a new Ranger game to coincide with the release of the Sinnoh remake, if they could find a way to make that work on the Switch.

I don't think a lot of people these days are going to want to buy a whole separate game that has nothing to do with the core series gameplay just to obtain a Mythical, unless it also appeals as a game on its own merits. Like, I expect New Pokémon Snap will do quite well since people have been on about a remake for years. But would a Ranger revival be as popular?

The Poké Ball Plus w/Mew was one thing, because at least the PB+ could be used to augment the gameplay of both Let's Go and GO. It was essentially just an expensive Pokéwalker, still primarily designed to contribute to the game design rather being a whole other thing with a Mythical shoved into it to tempt main series players into dipping their toes in.

ORAS had Aarune and the guild of secret bases, do you think he'll make a return in the DPPt remakes for the same purpose? I kind of forgot about him up until now.

I can see him returning because of the whole flag-capturing mechanic, but I feel as though the underground/mining aspect is best kept linked with the Underground Man (+ Roark, I guess?)

I liked Aarune, it would be good to see him back. Perhaps he is the Underground Man! He never had a name or special overworld sprite in the original games. He was portrayed as an old man originally, so they'd need to retcon that... or he could be Aarune's father/grandfather and have a similar design to his son/grandson.

Seeing as there are also Contests in Sinnoh, I wonder if Lisia will be back too?

IIRC, the underground man was Roark's grandfather, so that would be a pretty big jump. Although I wouldn't mind if they made Aarune Roark's cousin.

Would the Sinnoh games even need DLCs? The regular games were already rich in content.

Depends on how much is in the base game, but yes, I could see DLC easily. Mythical events could be added back as DLC for one, they could reconsider bringing back the Battle Frontier if it's done as DLC (Masuda was worried that casuals don't want it. Well if they don't want it, they can just not buy the DLC). They could also make the entire Battle Zone as DLC, but that would be really scummy so I hope that doesn't happen.

I didn't realize that! I looked on his Bulbapedia page and it says he's Byron's dad too (as opposed to being Roark's maternal grandfather). Since he's more significant than I thought, I think perhaps they should keep him as a separate character and bring him to life more with his own unique design. They could do the same with Cynthia's grandmother, naming her Professor Carolina like in the anime and basing the design on her anime look.

Yeah, I always thought some of the more important NPCs could use some unique designs to make them stand out. Someone from gen 4 who I also think would be a good candidate for that might also be Keira, the contest judge in Hearthome with the Buneary. She could be like the Sinnoh equivalent of Lisia, or something similar if Lisia herself doesn't return.

I really hope that doesn't become the case.
