You know, if Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the real titles, that's actually more clever than it first appears. Brilliant and shining are words that can be used to describe not only gemstones, but also a talented young trainer in a more metaphorical sense. This ties in with Sword and Shield's theme of being the best, much like how Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire's titles tied in with X and Y's theme of life and death.

In the broader industry, it’s pretty rare that remakes are handled by the original studio. GF has always been an exception in that regard.

Looks like they used that time to work on something... bigger.

We've had Johto and Kanto multiple times already.

We've had Johto and Kanto multiple times already.

But this is like them going “here’s HGSS... and next year, an open world Johto game!”. They never really do a region twice in a row. And Kanto being in GS after RBY is different due to the sequel nature of those games.

Unless the 2022 game is a sequel to the 2021 game?

Looks like Legends might be GameFreak experimenting before jumping into Gen IX.

Doesn’t appear to have paired versions, doesn’t appear to have traditional battles etc. It also lets them try out new features without having to worry about a full roster of new Pokemon and a new region. Can’t wait to learn more in three hours!
