But we're not in the middle of a generation we're in the end the final games not the middle ones why release new pokemon this game when it'll be the selling point of the next one

This. I'm skeptical about them introducing more Pokemon in the last game of a generation because there's just going to be more immediately after.

Did GF or Nintendo specifically, officially say that whatever is next will be the last game of this generation? If so, I'd like a link.

It's entirely possible there could be a 4th set of 6th gen games, but unlikely. The next handheld is right around the corner, and Nintendo is not going to want Game Freak to take too long to bring Pokemon over, so there's no reason to break tradition and go for more than 3 games.

If Game Freak want to add new critters next year, it's because they prefer to stick to the 3DS rather than immediately accommodate a new system (which they've never done). But in that case, anything but a new generation akin to Generation V wouldn't make sense.

I don't see why people seem to think just because GF hasn't done something like this before that they won't ever. The 3DS and the cartridges are fully capable of being patched. The fact that GF made the conscious decision to create the current game's engine to not allow certain types of patches should tell most of you what their original intentions were for this generation. IMO it's because of potential hacks, for a surprise for these last games, and because of the financial benefits obviously.

That being said, it would not surprise me if GF doesn't do anything special for the last games or Pokémon's twentieth anniversary. Fans should keep expectations low to be pleased.

The twist is that new Pokemon in the final games really makes this a 5 year gen instead of 4, so that they can give some leeway to getting gen 7 on the NX.

They don't need any leeway, they can put 7th gen on the NX in 4 years easily. Especially when the NX is built to make it easier to port games between systems, it shouldn't take them as long to acclimate to the NX's development tools.

Do we even know if the NX is coming out this year or next?

It's built to port games between the new handheld system and home console. I don't see what part of that implies that it's going to be easy to move from the 3DS onto the NX.

We don't know anything about the new system and nothing guarantees that moving on will be an easy thing to do.

Exactly. Outside of the Pokemon models, which are built to be futureproof, the reason why framrate slowdown happens is mostly due to the ridiculous polygon count, there isn't a lot they can carry over, except for maybe the base engine, if they decide what gen 6 gave us is the de facto look for the series going forward. With a gen 6 game next year, unless they can absolutely get something out for 2017 not on the 3DS, there is no way I see gen 7 happening otherwise. I'd be shocked if Zygarde focus is put in a gen 7 game, and it would be such a huge blow to whatever plot and lore the new region would have. But honestly, by giving us another 50-60 Kalos Pokemon and 20 or so Megas, they can stretch out gen 6 while not having presurefrom Nintendo about releasing 3DS games well into 2018 for gen 7. But if they can get a new gen to the next handheld in time, its not needed.

1. They could easily wrap up Zygarde's story in Kalos via an app released in early 2016 or even late this year. The app would act like the Delta Episode story-wise, and the Zygarde forms themselves would be carried over to the next generation, but only for the sake of actually using them in battles.
2. Saying that Zygarde would necessarily overshadow the new region's lore is a stretch. It could easily be reserved for the post-game and add another layer to the games without being the focus of the entire plot.

They wouldn't have to release 3DS games in 2018 anyway. The last Generation VII game could be released in late 2017, and if it were n3DS-exclusive, it would serve as an incentive for a lot of people to buy an NX.

Game Freak know that their most successful games are those set in new regions. I see no reason for them to add new Pokémon to Kalos instead of exploring the Strange Souvenir region. The idea of a 5-year generation is fairly out there, especially considering that Yokai Watch 3 is coming out next year and will focus on a brand new setting. And I won't even mention the anime's pacing.

A 5 year generation is out there, but cutting a gen short, when its clear that is not the plan, and then having the next only last at a bare maximum 2 years is not? You do realize with Movie 19 being an XY film means that if Gen 7 does happen, it would have to be after July, as the gen wouldn't be over by then? And considering how we are likely due to an announncement by next month, the 3rd mascot forme change so far has not been revealed without the games so I don't expect anything different, I can't agree with tha app idea. Gen 7 on 3DS at this point is a ridiculous notion for me, I believe NX is gonna get pushed hard by Nintendo, and they will likely not be as accepting as they were of GEN 5. GF probably knows this, and probably is wprking on a way to gain time.

As much as I'd like to see more pokemon in the kalos Dex, they don't even need to do that for a z or x2y2 to be successful. But I cannot see them cutting thisgen short, definitely not this short. How can people see this obvious zygarde form and say "nah, they're not making a new gen VI game?"

Do youthink they're going to give a former gen's pokemon a new forme and access to new powerful moves in a new game? It would completely undermine the success of any new legendary pokemon, handing any part of the focus if a gen VII game to Aygarde. If the little green thing is a new pokemon, its a munchlax/lucario situation. We're just seeing gen VII mons creep into gen VI media early. Otherwise, gen VII is getting its lore trashed.

Another sketch of the new Pokémon on Serebii:

Pokémon - New Pokémon?
Following the surprise appearance of what may be a new Pokémon and/or form, more people have been able to see the movie, Hoopa & The Clash of Ages and due to this, thanks to another friend of mine, we have a far more accurate sketch of it now which differs slightly from the original ones we had yesterday. It includes elements that were lost previously on it including a red stomach. Of course, there is still likely to be some discrepencies between the sketch and the actual design but this is a close approximation. It's not currently known when this Pokémon/form will be completely revealed with official art and screenshots, but when it is, we'll post it here as soon as it comes.

Huh. Apparently it has a red underbelly as well. Design is still the same though. However accueate the sketches are though, it won't and hopefully will not match the official art, I am not feeling it for now. I do think this new detail meabs its not related to Zygarde, red is not a color it has, and it looks to be more then a blob. It could be a gen 7 tease, but its freaking weird, this isn't like the gen 3 days leading up to DP.

Another thing, red and green is the mega act 4 colors. Could be Volcanion, and Zygarde, but it could be this as well......

Of course you disagree with the idea if you're still assuming that Zygarde is a version mascot, which the teaser doesn't prove. I think that Super Mystery Dungeon's late European localization makes an early 2016 main series unlikely. The shortest gap between a spin-off game and main series one was 3 months* (Conquest and B2W2), and it is no coincidence that B2W2's coverage only lasted two months (the only information we got in March was the boxart). If Super Mystery Dungeon can be released in Europe in January at the earliest, that should mean that the main series coverage will only start in February (assuming a wordwide release, which should be a given for the main series). That's 7 months from now, and I just can't imagine they will make us wait that long for an explanation of the teaser. At the same time, promoting a main series game this year wouldn't help Super Mystery Dungeon's promotion at all.

Why wouldn't NoE opt for a Holiday release for Super Mystery Dungeon? If anything, an app may be released by December, so they aren't worried about Europeans not having anything to do this year. An app wouldn't detract from another game.

* Typing DS was released in Europe a month before B2W2, and Art Academy was released a month before ORAS in the US. But those games were nowhere near Super Mystery Dungeon's scale (Typing DS was never released in the US) and were hardly promoted. Not to mention that they were delayed for the sake of a Holiday release.

You say this as if Mewtwo didn't get two Mega Evolutions in XY, of which Xerneas and Yveltal were the mascots. You could argue that it hurt Kalos' lore, but it still happened without Mewtwo dominating the new generation.

I agree with the PSMD release, in fact if you remember I was one of the few who felt it was too much to release them so close, but I cannot see a reason to go full teaser on is unpess they are gonna do something like that. Its stupid sure, but I cannot fathom a game past next summer when we are already getting silouettes. And yes, I am sricking with a proper release, no way are we getting gen 7 in 2016.

There is a reason if the Zygarde form doesn't make its debut in a main series game.

no way are we getting gen 7 in 2016.
Because a 5-year generation is so much more likely, right?

I would roll with saying 5 years is illogical, but only if you accept that a two year gen is up there with it. If not higher. Gen 7 could easily debut in fall 2017, which is close to say, a spring 2018 release for the NX.

Mega mewtwo is pretty different from this 50-foot behemoth. It's getting star treatment in the movies, it'll probably get some plot significance in the games, too, since it still had two mysterious powerful new moves. Mega mewtwo shared its movie with genesect, and just had the same style item that was being released for a bunch of other pokemon as far as new swag.

Basically, either the new zygarde forme(s?) will steal focus from gen VII legendarys, or will be shafted themselves. There's no other way. Either they get tons of focus in a new game, strangling gen VII mons, or they get no attention, and then why on earth did they get a whole freaking movie?
