I came across a suggestion on another board, something about a "crossover" titled Pokémon Emerald Z. The idea they had laid out was very interesting, but what caught my attention the most was all the parallels that were drawn between the Weather Trio and the Mortality Trio. I'm trying to find the link to the post right now, but so far I can't seem to find it again. But anyways, it mentioned something how you got a red harbinger of destruction(Groudon and Yveltal) and a blue harbinger of life(Kyogre and Xerneas. Yes, even though Kyogre's powers can cause destruction as well, please remember though that water is very crucial to life itself), and a green serpentine-like creature that's supposed to bring balance between the two(Rayquaza and Zygarde). Not to mention that both Rayquaza and Zygarde are both part Dragon-types.

This is really starting to make me wonder, though... is that just all coincidence? Was Game Freak just being "lazy" when trying to draw inspiration for the Gen 6 Legendaries, or do they have a legit reason for making so many similarities between the Hoenn and Kalos Trio's? Since both Hoenn and Kalos thus far have strong ties to Mega-Evolution and harnessing Infinite Energy, are they actually planning on making the next main series game(s) to serve as tie-ins to both X/Y and ORAS?

That would be awesome, but if that was the case, there'd be subtle hints, I feel like. Like... Jirachi being distributed for X/Y and Kalos legendaries being distributed for OR/AS for example. Oops, forgot about the Shiny Jirachi distribution, as well as Diancie/Hoopa. But y'know, also character crossover. We hear about AZ in Hoenn, but we never see him. We never hear about any Hoenn characters during Kalos and we could've seen them. (Juan would've been perfect to show up in Kalos, especially since he didn't show up in M!Hoenn... But according to the timeline, he was busy elsewhere... )

But here's something I don't think I've seen anybody theorize: a double release. And no, I don't mean X2/Y2. I mean... like JT's 20/20 Experience from two years ago. Two albums (or in this case, games) at different points during the year. We already know there's an A team and a B team that alternate on games. (A team does first installments of a generation, B team does remakes, A team does third versions). Well, what if after X/Y, Team A went to work on one game, while after OR/AS, Team B went to work on another?

Team A could've done a game for the 20th anniversary (preferably a Yellow remake, most likely a R/G/B one) with over two years of development time. While Team B is preparing Z for fall or winter of 2016, having had as much time to do Z after OR/AS as they did for OR/AS after B2/W2. I mean, it's incredibly out there, it's highly unlikely, but it fits.

And also, if there's even a chance of us getting re-remakes, they better switch it up and do Anime versions of regions instead (like Yellow, but much more faithful to the anime and stuff). I mean, we already have Kanto/Orange, Johto and now Hoenn to choose from since all three have been remade. Not only would it add much more areas to regions, but also new people, new Pokémon and new plots as well.

But if we get a Megaverse Sinnoh, there is no way to get around that. Sinnoh games precede Kalos games and Rowan mentored Sycamore. Meaning if there were Mega Evolutions in Sinnoh, he would know.

>implying that Sinnoh isn't the region with reality warping dragons and GOD

Honestly considering Dialga and Palkia's domains are Time and Space It wouden't be surprising to see Mega stones from either the Future, another Megaverse or both (with the explanation depending on the game) It's also possible that the timeline will get retconned so that ORAS and XY will be concurrent or that there will be sequels for DPPt, set after XY.

My best bet is the kalos region games and then Gen 7. We already got remakes this gen and Zygarde needs focus along with Volcanion. It's hard to think Kanto would get remakes because XY had mega evolutions for starters and Mewtwo, having the starters and legendary's of kanto being available in the games, Snorelax is found on the road and catchable after getting Pokeflute, Lapras is given to you by a guy in route 12 and the rest of Kanto pokemon is spread out between all four games. I would like to see Kanto again but I think it would be better to be saved for next gen. Kalos is the most likely candidate at the moment. Sinnoh remakes is possible but we can play D/P/Pt on 3DS system and previous systems. I am open to the ideas of Kanto/Sinnoh remakes but I am favoring Kalos at the moment.

I'd like to see them tie things together proper, but honestly, I'm not a fan of how they're handling things so far. They're trying to go "deeper" with the Mega Evo. lore, but so far its just questionable.

First it was a Kalos phenomenon, as stated by the official site and Sycamore in-game. Which was later explained by AZ's weapon irradiating stones within the Region at the end of his war. But then come ORAS, we get a new background altogether. Now, Mega stones and Keystones are meteorites that fell from outer space, and Hoenn even has Mega Stones that can't be found in Kalos! Futhermore, Rayquaza has the power to Mega Evolve in its very biology (the Mikado Organ), and is millions of years old. So the potential for it technically predates even AZ. Then you have Steven handing Keystones like candy, and various characters treating it like some normal occurrence...When in XY it was considered something "special" for a chosen few, or those who actively chose to train for it at the Tower of Mastery.

The Lati twins were also said to hold some secret that never gets explained. lol.

I mean...Wat. I'm waiting for them to surprise me and make sense of it all, but at the same time I'm not sure how much they care :[

Sinjoh and Sevii were better tie-ins imo. Less convoluted.

So like two separate alternate Mega Evolution universes? I actually have thought of that myself but I was thinking that it'd be way too much to consider.

Maybe there are two Mega Evolution universes (or even more than two) where Mega Evolution presented itself in different regions. Like for example maybe there is an alternate Mega Evolution universe where Mega Evolution originated in the Unova region instead of Hoenn or Kalos.

What if, and get this, Gamfreak just sucks at explainibg bew game mechanics in world. Instead of makibg megas something old and mysterious they went with the rote narrative that new regions are literally new in the game canon instead of just for us, the players. Its why their world building and plot falls apart, they never thought to introduce us to something new by having it old.

As for Hoenn/Kalos crossovers its an idea. One of my less possible choices, but an idea. Kalos sequels would be so far removed in the timeline that Kanto/Kalos sequels would work better, unless Goopa somehow opens holes into the past as well and something crazy happens.

I know that the timeline was officially revealed, but I still prefer to believe in my theory that there are three timelines: the main game timeline, the third version timeline, and the remake timeline.

The main game timeline includes Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl, Black/White, Black 2/White 2 and X/Y. In this timeline, Steven is the champion of Hoenn. Wallace was the champion before losing his position to Steven, hence why he participates in the Champions Tournament of the PWT. After losing his position as champion, Juan left his position as gym leader and gave it to his student Wallace. Mega evolution was first discovered by a man from the Kalos region and his Lucario.

The third version timeline includes Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum. In this timeline, Wallace is the champion of Hoenn, while Juan is the Sootopolis gym leader. Steven is just a strong wandering trainer. It's the only timeline where the fairy-type and mega evolution don't exist, or at least haven't been discovered.

The remake timeline includes FireRed/LeafGreen, HearthGold/SoulSilver and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. In this timeline, Steven is the champion of Hoenn and Wallace is the Sootopolis gym leader. Juan's role is unknown. Mega evolution originated from Rayquaza in ancient times.

What do you think? I personally don't see any flaws.

Maybe XY itself was an alternate universe form ORAS?
I discussed similar idea some time ago. Now I thought the same idea could be applied to explain Strange Souvenir. Perhaps the backpacker who gives this item, in ORAS universe, would be from Hoenn and would give a souvenir depicting Mega Rayquaza, which is indeed venerated as a protector in the region far from Kalos, just like the current description of the item says. I know he's currently said to not be from any previous region, but this could be retconned if there are separate universes.

That means, backpacker's region and Pokemon depicted as Strange Souvenir would never be specified in XY universe, but if this backpacker will ever appear again in the future games, he could be retconned to be from Hoenn and to give a souvenir depicting Mega Rayquaza.

I realize that Strange Souvenir can be traded to ORAS and is not retconned to be depicting Mega Rayquaza, but I don't think it's a problem because this item originated in XY anyway and has no relevance in ORAS. I think it should be retconned only if it will be given in the future games.

The mega evolution being new isn't a contradiction. We've seen how fragmented the regions in the pokemon world are, only referencing other regions at best. Heck even Kanto/Johto aren't sharing their news, since people in kanto act like you (someone from Johto) being in kanto isn't a common occurrence, and they're next to each other! Mega evolution could have been new to hoenn, with the discovery not spreading to kalos even after a long time so it is also new there when they discover it.
Actually it looks like there might be a contradiction there. After Delta Episode, Professor Cozmo says that he used to work with a friend from Kalos region who studies Mega Evolution and that he's going to share new information with him at once. It doesn't matter if he speaks about Sycamore, it matters that discoveries were most likely spread between regions.

I thought about ORAS and X/Y being in separate Mega-universes as well, but then we have stuff like how the O-Powers guy came into existence and the fact that the Kalos War and AZ's weapon are referenced. Not to mention AZ himself had traveled to Hoenn in the past and planted that big tree in front of the Cave of Origin, as well as having witnessed Rayquaza's 2nd Mega-Evolution. Zinnia referencing the weapon, the war, and then talking about Mega-Evolution's existence(and the possibility of non-existence in a different universe)while doing so heavily implies that X/Y and ORAs are in the same Mega-verse.

I just thought, what if Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Groudon were the only Pokémon on Earth to Mega-evolve until AZ's weapon was used? Some food for thought there, because so far there's no record of any other Pokémon outside of those 3 that had the ability to Mega-evolve until AZ's weapon is used during the war. After using the weapon, that's when the energy of said weapon enabled all other 'mons to Mega-evolve. What if the original source of Mega-evolution, the shit that came from meteors, only enables Legendaries and Mythicals to Mega-evolve? Then when the artificial source, aka Ultimate Weapon, came into play, that enabled non-Legendaries and non-Mythicals to Mega-evolve? Because think about it... Kyogre and Groudon didn't originally need a "bond with humans" to go Primal for the first time. They achieved that shit on their own schedule, mang.

Pokemon Director Explains Why Series is Becoming Easier - GameSpot

The specific question asked is, "why Game Freak went down that route instead of creating, say, a "Pokemon Z" to follow 2013's X/Y"
Masuda says, "For example, if after Black and White we came out with a grey, people would have been expecting that," he said. "Same thing with X/Y and having a Z straight afterwards. So we're always just trying to surprise people." and "There's been a lot of demand from people to remake Ruby/Sapphire on social media, for example, right now really felt like a good time to do it, and instead of doing a direct sequel to X/Y we're tying it together in some unique ways"

So basically right here he says there will be no Z. Because he says "instead".

The next title (hopefully) may not be called Z but I am certain Kalos would finish off with games involving Zygarde. Volcanion also needs to be release and we have only two movies in gen 6 at the moment. Thousand Waves and Thousand Arrows needs to in the next installment since it be weird to leave those moves out. Zygarde is currently at 600 bst while the other two are 680 bst. Like Giratina and Kyurem, Zygarde is likely to gain a new form or it can have a mega/primal evolution. Leaving Zygarde in the state that it is in would seem really disappointing and weird for fans. I am also sure that a third movie would come and feature Zygarde as it be weird to have only two movies in a generation. So in conclusion, the next games may not be called Z but it is very likely that we are getting two more games for gen 6 before moving on.

How do those events deny the possibility of Mega-verse being split into two? All of them could happen in ORAS Mega-verse, whereas in XY Mega-verse, only the events that took place in Kalos would happen, explaining why Mega Evolution is described to be Kalos exclusive in XY.

That specific statement has been dissected time and again. It can be interpreted to mean "there will be no Z, as instead we gave you OR/AS" or it can mean "well, we would've done Z after X/Y, but we decided to do OR/AS first to shake it up a bit. You'll still get Z soon, though!" Either way, there's multiple ways to go with that.

Even though the potential for multiple universes has been opened up, there's absolutely nothing other than the continuity issues that disproves X/Y and ORAS being in the same universe. For right now, unless we get another game that straightens it out and ties ORAS and X/Y together, we have to put the blame on Game Freak for not getting their crap straightened out. We have more evidence that puts X/Y and ORAS in the same Mega-verse than we do that says they're separate.

You'll still get Z soon, though!" Either way, there's multiple ways to go with that.

Am I supposed to know what you want from me from that one short word? Elaborate.

The way I interpreted it, when he says "tying it all together" meant the possibility of them making a tie-in game for both X/Y and ORAS. But if he's talking about the current state of Gen 6 as is without anymore new main series games before Gen 7, then personally I think they did a somewhat crappy job of trying to tie-in X/Y and ORAS. All we got was the confusion from the origins of Mega-Evolution, and references to the Kalos War, AZ and the weapon. Just mentioning those things without there being any true connections between Kalos and Hoenn aren't something I consider very good tie-ins.
