I wouldn't be surprised if it's only limited to starter Pokemon and Amity Square-compatible Pokemon. I don't think having Groudon following you around will be possible. (Ooh, or a Rayquaza. Being a huge long snake thing, it would be pretty interesting to see it casually hovering around Johto and Kanto.)

If they made all 493 available for that feature, I think they will all look the same size, given the game is still tile based, so to not interfere with the gameplay, the monsters must be one tile of size.

Wailord seems to be bigger than all Cherrygrove, how could you move around with that thing behind you? How could you even see the town's buldings?

I wonder whether the Teachy TV, the Berry Pouch and the Help System will make a return.

I never really saw much use for Teachy TV. It would not be hard to learn what the teachy tv shows you, unless this time it explains something else, like the new breeding system, which would be good.

Help system was a nice touch, although a little better would be nice to comply for Gen IV. As for berry pouch, the way D/P/Pt handles berries probably will be kept in these games.

The music in that vid sounds inferior to the original GS. ...but not by much

I kninda liked it. It sort of reminded me of Florarama town music (or same style anyway)

Even with all the new stuff they are doing, do you think the space on a DS cart is going to allow all the new stuff they are doing, plus current Gen IV stuff, storyline, game events, Johto and Kanto and even all 493 pokemon having a few sprites each for them walking behind a player or NPC?

Yes, they never use the full size of the cart since Gen I or II.

Yeah, Size isn't an issue. A DS cart can hold about 2GB, and all the 4th Gen releases so far have been > 500 MB.

So size definitely isn't an issue.

As far as big pokemon, Zeta already addressed that:

And for the Amity Square Pokemon (and probably a few mascots from Johto like Pichu and Togepi, you could just need to have it in your first slot and talk to some woman and she'll go "That Pokemon you have there! It seems like it wants to get some exercise, would you like to let it out for a while?" and for any other Pokemon she'll say something like "That Pokemon you have there! It seems so content in its Pokeball."
We see Pokemon out of their Pokeballs all the time owned by trainers, I can think of several examples accross the entire franchise off the top of my head (Jigglypuff in Mt. Moon, Pikachu in the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, Slowbro in Cerulean City, Doduo in Saffron City, Farfetch'd in Illex Forest, Slowpoke in Azalea Town) so there's already the question of why NPCs are allowed to have their Pokemon out of balls but the main character isn't. I'd be able to find more if Bulbapedia was working. So why would you need a special park to walk your Pokemon anyways, since everyone but the main character seems to do it all the time?

Just add in someone mentioning that certain Pokemon like to be out of their Pokeballs like they did with Pikachu and you've got your excuse right there.

Remember this time the games are going to introduce new stuff and probably use more of the DS cart space because of Kanto and the breeding system will add more, making less space too, these games will use more than the 500 odd MB that is currently used IMO. I really doubt all 493 pokemon will have sprites for them walking behind player. A few yes, but not all, besides how would you show a wailord "walking" and similar? Have them bounce about?

Kind of off-topic, but does underusing it keep the game from crashing and losing all your data? Only my Gen I and II games have completely lost their data out of randomness, and the internal batteries were still intact.

That I don't know about. Probably though.

I figure it's similar to a PC crashing when it's overworked, and you're using all it's RAM.

Probably not. Red was the first player character in the series and GSC made a big deal about his inclusion.

I would like to see Leaf show up in the games though, as either another trainer to battle or even just as an NPC who mentions coming from Pallet Town etc.

Yeah, they could make them all one tile, but that would make no sense at all, especially since in recent generations they've made all the legends you interact with to battle actual size. It would look ridiculous to encounter a huge Lugia, catch it, and then have it flapping behind you only one tile square.

Well then I want to see how you manage to travel through narrow places with a Giratina behind you XD

May be not ine tile square, but definetly they wouldn't be as big as they look when you encounter them, assuming they will follow you around, which I seriosuly doubt.

Simple solution: Only relatively small Pokémon can be placed out of their PokéBalls. Wailord, Snorlax and similar Pokémon would have to remain inside their PokéBalls all the time. They could limit the outside Pokémon for those who can play the jumping game on Two Island for example taht would also avoid having to see Goldeen flying and similar situations.
How does Wailord look in the Dungeon games, anyway?

Oh, guys. You're so naive thinking that ALL Pokemon will be available to be released from a Pokeball. That will be probably restricted to starters or, more optimistically, to the Pokemon that have overworld sprites.

Game Freak is NOT that hard-working to program the overworld sprites of all 493 Pokemon in the game. It would also suck out a large chunk of the cartridge space. There would be no room for more exciting things!

Size is really wonky in the Mystery Dungeon games. The only Pokemon who take up more than one tile are: (most) Legendaries aside from Mewtwo, Deoxys, and the Cute little guys, Mantine (?!), Onix, Steelix, Wailord, and Lapras.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why Mantine and Lapras are so freaking huge.

Don't be silly. Each of the Gen IV games so far only takes up one fourth of the potential space of DS cart. GameFreak couldn't use that up with an overworld sprite for every Pokemon if they tried. They would need the content of four games each the size of Platinum, and every Pokemon already has 3 sets of sprites (front, back, and party icon).

Yeah, that's a little weird. In Ranger: SoA, though, Wailord is full-size - there's a mission where you have to rescue one, and you actually see it on several different screens. It's in the browser, but it's way too huge to capture, so you just get its data automatically.

But 493 Pokemon overworlds? Come on! Some of features would certainly have to be gone.

I am really more interested in seeing a cool game with just some Pokemon overworlds rather than seeing a shitty game with all Pokemon OWs.

Anyway, spriting them all must suck... Who would want to do that?!

Yeah, I wish the main game series would start using the Ranger overworld map style where you have the full body for everyone and Pokemon and detailed crap on the map and you can actually move in 8 directions - as well as using the Ranger Field Move stuff instead of using HMs - every Pokemon gets their own field move out of about 8 and you only need a badge to do it.

Anyway, spriting them all must suck... Who would want to do that?!

Chunsoft did it. Twice. As I said before, if GameFreak would suck in their pride and just use their sprites, they could do it easily. AND their art style is more detailed than the overworld sprites GameFreak uses for the few Pokemon that DO get them. All GF would have to do is Arceus and Rotom's Formes, and any new Formes made for HGSS. Many other series such as Dragon Quest Monsters and Telefang have also managed to do it, with smaller budgets.

I have a feeling your starter is not going to follow you anywhere and everywhere. It's probably out of it's Pokéball only for some script/event, and is likely to disappear immediately after you complete the said event.
