Tonight will be my first time attempting to make homemade tortillas. Any tips and/or tricks?

When I make tortillas I use shortening. Most recipes call for lard though, so if you have that use it ^^

After making the dough, I roll it into a bunch of balls and roll them out separately on a well flour'd surface. Make sure the dough is very flat. I never understood how to use a "tortilla maker" so I roll it out the old fashion way :p

Then I cook each piece of the the flattened dough on a hot cast iron pan with no oil for some seconds on each side. I haven't made tortillas in a while, but I think I would typically do 12 seconds on each side. If you cook too long the tortillas won't be soft so you have to be careful with this part :p

We realized very quick into this process that we didn't have a rolling pin so we doubled down and made spaghetti. I do really appreciate the reply though
