Growing up, what did your parents ban you from?

GTA, since my parents didn't see the fun in being a criminal. Energy drinks/ coffee because I was quite hyper.

- Any M-rated game. Even some T-rated games were off-limits if the amount of nudity and violence were a little over the top. The most violent game I have ever played as a child was Contra (this game would probably be rated T or M by today's standards and technology). Those were just pixel men being macho with pixel machine guns. My parents didn't think there was anything wrong with that, apparently, because we rented it numerous times, which is really odd. o_O Then again, as technology became a lot more advanced and graphic, they became a lot more aware of what was released and okay for me to play.
- Music with filthy language (this one's a given)
- Swearing altogether (also a given)
- R-rated movies (a given)

Swearing. They always allowed me to watch and play whatever I wanted (except for porn, obviously).

I was banned from most rated M games and rated R movies, but when I got to be around 10 they let me watch and play pretty much everything for some reason.

I don't think I've ever been banned of anything by my parents. I do everything of my interests when they are not near me (watching anime, playing video games, etc).

My folks didn't let me around things that they thought would be a bad influence. Pretty standard stuff: no R-rated movies, no albums with the "Parental Advisory" sticker, and my mom learned about M-rated video games after she got me Turok for the Nintendo 64 and saw what that game was. She came home with a VHS copy of Metallica's Live Shit: Binge and Purge the other day, so I think she's finally decided that I'm mature enough to handle those sorts of things now, heh.

Uh...well, my memory of this time period is pretty hazy....I think it's safe to assume I was banned from swearing, but I can't remember much more.

Heh, that reminds me of somefin (somewhat) amusing. My dad let me play Grand Theft Auto as a little kid, and -- iirc -- he banned it some time l8r, for reasons I am not entirely sure of.

I don't know.My parents got me a T rated game for Christmas when I was five,so there goes that.I guess my dad just doesn't like listening to music like "Talk Dirty to Me" when I'm around. My mother doesn't give a f**k,though.

Your parents banned you from drinking Ribena and eating alphabetti spaghetti? xD

Well my parent (mum my dad died when I was a baby) was very easy going mostly. A few rules I remember that were valid up until about 10 or 11 was never going out alone to the shops (although i'd walk to school alone so made no sense) and on school nights i'd have to be in bed by 10:30pm. I was also banned from climbing on the shed roof which me and my brother used to do sometimes.

Other than that I was a free bitch, baby.

That explains a lot about you, Neoblade.

Basically, my mom followed the rating suggestions on video games and movies. So I couldn't play T games until I was 13, etc.

I was banned from Trick or Treating. At one point, I also wasn't allowed to have crisps in my school lunch, except on a Friday.

They didn't exactly ban me from anything. I was pretty mild mannered, like I knew not to swear or drink alcohol or anything. (I didn't swear once until I was 14, and only then was it around friends, not family members and I still don't drink/smoke now)
My bedtime was 9pm (10pm when I was a little older) and then 'whenever I wanted' after a certain age (usually 11pm)
I was allowed up and down the street as a kid (about 6-9 years old), and eventually I was allowed to the field/woods across from my house when I got a little older, and I was allowed to walk to my friends houses, as well as to school on my own when I turned 11 and started high school (I also got a phone that I had to have on me in case of emergencies)
I was allowed into Manchester at 12, as long as I was with a friend - but by 13 I was allowed on my own (though usually I went there to meet up with friends, I didn't just walk around alone)
I was never banned from video games or movies. I had GTA and Manhunt and such games as a kid,

Though, my younger siblings were banned fizzy drinks on week days, and now that my sister raises my siblings (my Mum died, and their step-Dad ignores them) they have a lot of rules like only age-appropriate games and movies, going to bed at certain times (between 7-9pm depending on age) and they have to always eat their vegetables at dinner time. It's a lot more organised and I respect her rules, but it sucks for my 11 year old brother who loves Saints Row and his favourite film is Fight Club.

edit: actually when I was really little and my Dad lived with me, I remember I was banned from having/going to birthday parties, trick-or-treating or leaving my bedroom at night time (even to use the bathroom!) and probably some more stuff, but it was so long ago I can't remember.

The Simpsons and shows of the like.

I could also say M-rated games... But the truth is that I didn't even need to be banned from them. I still don't have any interest in those types of games.
