Gym Discussion/Speculation

They have always had at least one gym leader who was absent at first; but the last two gens have had the majority of the leaders (and the Champion) participating more in the story. I like that. No reason to think they won't include it this gen, but I'll be disappointed if they don't. It makes them feel like more than checkpoints, and makes the world you're exploring seem more real.

I think it's going to be Clemont.

He's located in Lumiose it seems, which its position on the map could easily be revisited...plus, according to what the Italian girl who is reviewing the game and leaked the PokeCenter pic, Electric is the fifth. Plus the Anime is also doing the "Clemont isn't at his Gym" and it seems like Ash won't battle him right away in a Gym Battle.

i am curious where these things from the italian reviewer can be found? all i remember is someone put a bunch of text with those images but none of it was actually written by the original leaker.

Well, I'm pretty sure this was posted on the forum the italian reviewer was on (I'm not sure where that was) and wasn't included with that fake list of stuff with "Jaegernut", and was the only think they said, apparently I'm guessing this was from the instruction booklet or something.

But I can't confirm it myself.

I actually felt like a lot of the gym leaders' plot involvement in Gen V was a tad forced. Like they just went "hey, some plot's happening in my city/an adjoining city, best be getting involved". If they can make it feel more like the gym leaders have more reason to get involved besides being prominent and being there, I'm all for it, but I feel like all of them being involved in the main plot in the order you encounter them is a bit too convenient.

Something like the New Mauville plot would work- a sidequest that happens after you've met the gym leader for a battle, that you can come back and do if you want but that's not really necessary. Give something like this to the leaders who don't have a reason to enter the main plot.

Oh, and continuing to give background/hobbies/general context to these characters is a great idea.

I mean the gyms and E4 are the most important part of the games for me. I mean I have 6 new pokes that i like and 2 main teams (Froaki,Fletxhling/Noivern, skiddo meowstick and honnedge | Fennekin Bulba Fletch Noivern Skrelp Bunnelby and Helioptile) to play both games.

But I really need to know the rest of the gym leaders and their teams.

I mean so many leaks and no one said even which Pokes are in Viola's team.

Man this was my thoughts exactly. Though it seems like there aren't any new bugs leaked yet besides Vivillion. I'm guessing she might have caterpie line / weedle line because those were shown to be obtainable earlier on-ish. Still sorta depressing because Bug is my favorite type and not really anything interesting yet :/

She might have a Surskit, since it was said to appear early in the game.

So, we know this:

1st Gym: Bug
2nd Gym: Rock
3rd Gym: Fighting
4th Gym: Grass
5th Gym: Electric
6th Gym: Fairy
7th Gym: Dark
8th Gym: Ice

I may have switched the places for 6th and 7th gym but that seems to be the order.

Josh confirmed Fairy and Ice (final gym), Bug, Rock and Fighting (Viola, Grant and Korrina), the fourth gym has a Grass type looking badge which Josh also said it might be and the fifth badge belongs to Clemont who is an Electric-type gym leader.

Read somewhere about Dark, but I'm not sure.

So Josh completed all the gyms then? I'm a bit confused.

Doesn't Pokemon list each badge over at the game manual? It was like that since Gen 1 if my memory serves me right.

I would be satisfied with this lineup if it's true, it's very fresh and original. Aside from Fighting and Grass, no gym would be in the same spot as it's been in a previous game, and all type would have at least one gym.

The spoiler list for the Gyms are as follows:

1. Bug - Viola
2. Rock - Grant
3. Fighting - Korrina
4. Grass - Ramos
5. Electric - Clemont
6. Fairy - ??
7. Psychic - Olympia
8. Ice - Wulrific

HAPPY there's no Dark gym! Dark is MYSTERIOUS. Keep it as such.

NO DARK?!

I guess a Dark type "Master" is better than a Dark type "Specialist" or "Gym Leader" huh...

So there have been some conflicting information we have been getting concerning the Fairy Gym Leader's team. From Kanpachi I've heard that she has a Mr. Mime and Aromatisse. But from others we've heard that she had Mawile and Sylveon with no mention of the other two. If I remember correctly they were playing X. So I've been thinking that what if she has a different team for each version? Could it be possible, or could I have gotten something wrong?

Kanpatchi is the only place I've heard of where she has an Aromatisse, everywhere else I've heard Mawile, Mr Mime and Sylveon.

Read it again. That was when I was under the impression the 7th gym was Dark, which as I found out is wrong. If it was Dark, that would be true.

Anyway, I have no idea why they're so against having a Dark type gym. All other types, even Fairy which was just introduced this game, have gyms except Dark, and there's already been 3 Dark type Elite 4 members, so it's not like they're afraid of making type specialists for it. I honestly do not see a reason for them not to have made one by now.

The Fairy-type Gym Leader's name is Valerie.

Maybe they think the power of "Evil" cannot be controlled by a 'mere gym leader', but only by those who have acheived a type "Master" level, hence, the E4
