Gym Discussion/Speculation

I'd like to see another female Champion this time. It's time to put Cynthia to rest.

OMG I want a Poison Gym for this Generation too ^^. I always thought that Argenta would give an awesome Poison Gym Leader. Would love to see that happening :)

Awesome!! I love Argenta so much - she is my favourite Frontier Brain <3 <3 <3 Looks-wise, she always struck me as more of a Psychic type trainer (similar colours and designs as Will and Lucian) or a Flying type trainer, as she seems to have a bit of a old-style pilot look to her.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Poison GL with a design similar to hers though, like an older female to balance out Koga a bit (seeing as both Janine and Roxie were pretty young seeming).
She's my 2nd favorite Frontier Brain (Spenser it's my 1st. Love his concept). Yeah a older female Poison Gym Leader would be tots awesomesauce :p

Uh, should we count Agatha? In Bulbapedia, it says her specialty was Ghost, but she had more Pokémon of the Poison-type. =/ Anyway, she's not a Gym Leader, but an Elite Four.

I disagree. Cynthia is awesome, and I think we haven't seen enough of her yet. Plus, we have Iris as well. I would like to see another female Champion, though.

I would really really like to see more Gyms tied to themes not entirely related to typing. That's one of the reasons I like Tate and Liza and the Striathon Gyms the best. I'm not saying all of the Gen VI Gyms shouldn't be based around typing - but two would be pretty nice. Rotation Battle Gym, Double Battle Gym, Triple Battle Gym, Buffer Gym, Debuffer Gym - something creative.

Tate and Lisa were Psychic leaders... and the triplets were Grass/Fire/Water leaders...

Yeah but they were based on double battles and type weakness/advantages. Something more appropriate would be Falkner's Gym, which although has flying types, is more specified to birds alone, not Pokemon like Jumpluff or Emolga.

The Triplets were a missed opportunity.

Also, Unova really fucked with the formula. A Gym that changes type based on your starter; two additional Gyms on top of a couple taken out; leaders taking over the roles of others. For me personally, I liked that, but I'm sure as not going to try to place bets on how things will turnout this generation.

As an aside, it's crazy to me that each and every version of the games has had a Water-type Gym Leader (RBY: Misty; GSC: Misty (technically); RSE: Wallace, then Juan; DPPt: Crasher Wake; BW1: Cress; BW2: Marlon) and that each Ice-type Gym has always been at the 7th Gym. That's crazier than Rock-type being the starting Gym for three times or Dragon ending up as the last twice.

Honestly, that chick herself reminds me enough of Caitlin. She keeps popping up, who's to say that isn't a young her. Something psychic's happening with that room, and the symbol is purple/pinkish, which is the color associated with the type.

the chick in the gym screenshot is the female player.

imo she doesn't look like a trainer, she looks like a tourist with that outfit. really hoping the character customization theory is true.

on topic:

I agree with you guys. I'm hoping the same thing about having a Dark Gym Leader in the game it's about time they added one. water and electric Gym leaders should retire.. well atleast for this game. I would also like a Ghost or Poison Gym added or maybe a dual type where the Gym leader could be twins who uses different types or a single gym leader who uses two types of pokemon. another thing is more puzzles inside the Gym so navigating around it would be more fun.

If we really know 3 of the gyms and their respective types, I hope the other ones are a bit out there. Grass has been present in 3 regions, with bug and psychic in 2. They could go for another rock gym, I personally feel its time to give us another one, with the other 4 being poison, dark, ghost, and steel. Give us an E4 with more traditional typings, like water, electric, fire and flying, with a variety champion.

I actually think the Gym shown in the picture will be a Dark-type gym. Don't know why, but it just doesn't look like a Psychic gym to me. I bet we will also be seeing an Ice-type gym for the 7th gym, and a Water-type for the 8th. Another thing that would be nice to see is being able to travel to Unova (possibly via plane?) and battle the gyms there.

I'd like to see a Steel gym, IIRC, it was only done twice.
Bug is a given
Psychic gym
Ghost Gym
Grass gym
Flying gym
Fighting gym
Poison gym

E4
Normal
Fire
Rock
Ice

I'm hoping for:
Fighting Gym Leader ♀
Bug Gym Leader ♀
Ghost Gym Leader ♀
Steel Gym Leader ♀
Grass Gym Leader ♂
Fire Gym Leader ♂
Psychic Gym Leader ♂
Dark Gym Leader ♂

Flying Elite Four ♂
Electric Elite Four ♀
Rock Elite Four ♂
Water Elite Four ♀

Normal Champion ♀X/♂Y

NO. GO AWAY.

I really hope we see some interesting and less recurring gyms. Preferably no Water or Electric gyms. And definitely not an Ice gym as the 7th if included at all. And definitely not a Dragon type gym (at least not as the 7th or 8th gym).

I really hope to see a Dark type gym late in the game, preferably 7th or 8th, and being very prominent compared to other gyms, maybe with the Gym Leader having some part in the story. And I'd like to also see a Steel type gym right after/before the Dark type gym.

I would like to see some differently themed gyms such as a weather gym (like a Sandstorm gym), or maybe a bird gym or serpent gym, or a Double/Triple/Rotation battle gym. You know, interesting stuff.

I hope that the first gym has a female leader, maybe with bug types?

I'm also hoping to see a Fire Champion.

I don't understand how we can just assume that because there is a spiderweb that there is a Bug-type Gym. Who's to say that the web isn't a part of a forest, some other gimmick like a new Battle Frontier, or it could be themed with another type of gym. I mean, seriously. Of course there's always the possibility for it to be in a Bug-type Gym, but I'm not about to place all of my spider eggs in one basket. After all, if we looked at those fallen branches in Pinwheel Forest in a trailer for Black & White, we may have well thought we'd subsequently receive a Grass-type Gym. Or even the sinking sand in the Relic Castle, I'm sure some could have credited that to a Ground-type Gym. I'm not saying that it is impossible, I just hate to assume such with a half second clip in our first trailer.

Or maybe it's my inherent fear of spiders that's hoping this gym doesn't revolve around the regions signature spider Pokemon. I can't tell.

Weren't there trainers in that trailer though? The way they were positioned, and how much the spider webs resembled the general gym puzzle (like Burgh's cocoons) means its more than likely a Bug gym. (Trust me, I am not against the idea of Bug pokemon swarming and taking over a route or it being a dense forest)

What about dual typed gyms? Is that too complicated or should they be considered? (I see no reason why it would be too complicated though) They could cover every single type that way at least, just leave out Normal. I agree that they really need to mix things up a bit regarding the gym challenge overall.

Making a dual typed gym a double battle gym that covers it's typings would also prove a better challenge.

A more detailed speculation:

Gym 1: Fire (Female Leader)
Gym 2: Psychic (Male Leader)
Gym 3: Steel (Female Leader)
Gym 4: Ghost (Male Leader)
Gym 5: Ground (Female Leader)
Gym 6: Poison (Male Leader)
Gym 7: Bug (Female Leader)
Gym 8: Dark (Male Leader)

Elite Four 1: Rock (Female Member)
Elite Four 2: Flying (Male Member)
Elite Four 3: Grass (Male Member)
Elite Four 4: Electric (Female)

Champion: Normal (Can't decide gender :/)

Maybe will update later with rosters (with my ideas for Fakemon)

Double type gyms would be iffy at best, and can cause more trouble then they're worth. I mean if you do something like having a specific animal type and having multiple secondary types to go along with a main type sure, a Falkner type gym with winged creatures but having stuff like Xatu, Murkrow, Golbat, Skarmory would be completely awesome and challenging beyond normal levels, but if just mix and match two types it would be awkward.

Like everyone's said, a dark type gym. I also really want the Elite Four to use some more creative types. Pretty much every Elite Four has either Dark, Psychic, or Ghost. It'd be nice not to see any of those. I really liked how the Sinnoh League and Bug, Ground, and Fire users.

I want -

-A Shrine Maiden Gym Leader who specialize in Ghost or Psychic type.

-A Kendo Specialist Steel type Gym Leader.

-A Archery Specialist Grass Gym Leader .

-A Rich-Lady Gym Leader.

-A Young Science Nerd Gym Leader.

Three words: dark type gym.

There isn't a single one yet!

Pokemon has disappointed us before. I do hope that we get a dark-type gym, but I'm not going to really be surprised if it doesn't happen.
