SwSh Gyms Speculation Thread

Because of the mix up and Affleck forgetting about Valerie. I'm still thinking Opal's going to be dark type. Like she has to have a Pokemon that could be mistaken for fairy which would make the leaker think she's a fairy gym.

The mushroom forest gym looks like it could go either way, color wise.

We also have Impidimp. Which going by it's pink and purple color looks more fairy than dark.

So yeah I'm still not convinced that Opal is a fairy gym leader yet. I mean they could pull another Bea and Alistair thing and have a fairy gym or a dark gym depending on the version. But the wording of the leak still bothers me. Especially after finding out about Impidimp months ago.

The Gym Leaders' specialty types are very obvious if you look at their appearances. Knowing that, the leaker calling Opal a Fairy leader when she's actually Dark would be spreading misinformation.

Yeah, but at the same time, we don't exactly have anything to base fairy type trainers on other then Valarie, Furusode Girls, and Fairytale Girls. And they could honestly also double as normal, ghost, or psychic trainers, or in Val's case, a bug gym leader that is getting really into her bug costume.

Dark trainers either wear business casual or straight up casual clothes. Sometimes they look goth, punk, or tired. They seem to be easier to pick out.

Besides it's really hard to wrap my head around the fact that Affleck is someone who has to have some kind of insider knowledge due to how many things they got right...and yet has no idea that fairy already had a gym 2 gens ago when the type came out.

My guess is they saw a game overview somehow, saw Opal's Pokemon team, noticed Impidimp or it's evolution and just thought "yep, that's a fairy gym leader. Must be the first since I skipped XY, lol!"

Tbf not many people really remember Valerie or most of Pokemon X and Y gym leaders bar a couple.
So she still could be very based on that misconception

True, but what I'm trying to say is how can someone with that much insider knowledge forget about something like that. They have to work for Nintendo somehow. By working for them, you'd think they'd also know of the previous gens and what types the gym leaders had. Especially during Fairy types debut game.

I mean the only other explanation is that they somehow hacked Nintendo/TPCi and got the information. But even so, Google is free. They could have easily looked up the XY gym leaders instead of making a billion true claims and one that looks false.

The leak did say that the Fairy type gym is a woman named Opal and that the fire type gym leader is Kabu(?). I'm personally hoping for that robin hood motif gym leader that JFrombaugh brought up a few posts upward.
I don't know why but all fairy trainers are women. What's the reason of it? We have lots of female trainers specialised in fighting type so why not put a male gym trainer for fairy? It's unfair. For example I love fairy type even if I am a man.

While I agree with you, it could also because of the stereotype that females are more "magical", hence Fairy. Remember how long it took us before we got a female Bug specialist? Until Gen 6. Every Trainer before Viola who used Bug-types were male, playing off the stereotype that girls were afraid of bugs (Misty certainly proved that in the anime). So, it's probably more stereotyping than anything. Likewise, I like Fairies despite being male, so I do agree that it's rather annoying that GF is continuing to stereotype virtually every character when it comes to Mon preferences. What's saying a male Ace Trainer can't use a Gardevoir or Slurpuff on their team? Because they're "cute" or "feminine" and thus won't "fit" on a "cool" character's team? Really, it's rather tiresome how cliche GF can be at times.

To be fair, there’s only been 2 of them and we know how GameFreak loves their gender norms.
It took us 6 generations just to get a Female Bug specialist.

Have I already talked about my theory that gyms will be semi free choice? Cause one weird thing I noticed via screenshots is that Milo's Eldegoss is level 19 and Nessa's Dreadnaw is 20. It's weird that two gym leaders are so close in level so I wonder if you can choose which to challenge first and the levels scale to what ever's your first choice. I also say semi cause I feel the choice is limited to maybe 4 gyms.

The screenshot on the official site shows Drednaw at level 24. Not saying your theory is wrong, just pointing this out. But on the map the gyms are really close to each other, so maybe that's why they're so close in level.

Yet, Kirby is right there. Him, his Cleffa, and his dead Clefairy/Clefable could be considered the first male fairy trainer even if it was before Fairy type.

Because of Kirby, there really shouldn't be a reason against having a male fairy gym leader or E4 member.

I’m pretty sure we’re talking about Gym Leaders, E4 members, Champions, and other trainers of notable rank; not just a random Cueball NPC from DP. His existence is hardly groundbreaking either. There was also an NPC that talks about how he used to be a girl but I don’t foresee GameFreak adding a transgender character into the game anytime soon.
Not that I’m equating having a male fairy type gym leader with having a trans gym leader or character since one is unfortunately far more likely than the other, it’s just that the same logic applies when looking at minor NPCs. I’d like to see a male Fairy-type specialist too fwiw.

Ok, bug is a more male type but at least it has one gym leader and a lot of female npc use bug Pokemon (like Picknicker). Fairy is different because there are no male trainers at all specialised in fairy type Pokemon. That it why I was hoping to have a male fairy type gym leader but it appears that is almost impossible. And who knows, maybe in Galar we are going to have another female gym leader that uses bug type Pokemon or even in the elite four.

Eh my point isn’t that it’s impossible, just that it may be a while. And there’s plenty of male NPCs that have Fairy-types in their team

Actually, now that I think about it. Isn't Milo's Eldegoss pretty high level for a first gym leader battle? I don't think we've ever had a first gym leader with a level 19 Pokemon (unless I'm forgetting something).

I think the highest level I have seen is 15 for the first gym. Maybe it takes a while before we can challenge the first gym.

Your right i haven't been able to find any first gym leader with that high of level.

Lv 12 to lv 14 at the most

Its also possible milo isnt first and the industrial city gym is since its technically the first one you pass through in order to get to milo.

Or

Since battling is a bigger focus in galar mabey you are that strong when you get to milo.
