SwSh Gyms Speculation Thread

Well, that would kill my only one Pokémon challenges since sometimes, at least in the case of Rock gyms, I have to spend time boosting myself to prevent them from OHK'ing me.

I'm standing by my prediction that the gym types in Galar are Grass, Water, Steel, Rock, Poison, Ice, Dragon, and Electric.

I've always wondered why the gyms aren't like how they are in the anime, where you can only use the same number of Pokémon that the gym leader uses. I'd love for that to be added to the gym challenge this time. For instance, the gym 'master' has 4 Pokémon, so you are only allowed to use a total of 4 as well (your other 2 would get greyed out as choices after you use your fourth).

I certainly hope so.

I am a big soccer fan myself, but I am an even bigger fan of Pokémon. And I don't think these two things (Pokémon and sports) mix too well together. Unless it's for some side activity like Pokeathlon (which is great). But not as a central concept of a Pokémon game.

I like to eat fish, and I like to eat chocolate. I just don't like to mix them ;)
Yeah. I don't think that these games will focus too much on sports, especially with the gyms.

Sooner or later I think Game Freak can eventually design 2-element gyms, all they need to do is add a few bielemental pokemon.

For example, Grass/Ghost gym that looks like a haunted forest.

So if a gym master has 4 pokemon, it would be Grass, Grass/Ghost, Ghost/Grass, and Ghost.

Then there would be countless gym designs.
That’s going to be even more easier than a single typed gym, since common weakness are even more certain in such a matchup with less options to cover them.
This is off-topic but I think your arguments are flawed.

1. Yes, some double-elemented pokemon can now have 4x weaknesses, but that's just with some having 4x resistances without having 4x weaknesses.

2. Some double-elemented pokemon have double the weaknesses, but then have double the resistances.

3. Some double-elemented pokemon have most of their weaknesses cancelled, and then can therefore only have few resistances.

4. Your arguments about common weaknesses, but don't forget double-elemented pokemon have double the STABs.

Anyways, going back to my argument. I wasn't implying I wanted a double-elemented gym because it would be easier, or harder. But for the sake of aesthetics.

I was not talking about 4x weaknesses but common weaknesses of a Pokemon in that post.

For example:
Gym A- Fire type: has a Fire/Electric, Fire/Flying and a Fire/Water (hypothetical Pokemon). You just cannot sweep this area with a water or ground type.

Gym B: Grass/Ghost, Grass/Ghost, Grass/Ghost. If you have even a single Pokemon strong against this combination you’ll have an easy time here since all the Pokemon here have identical weakness.

Secondary type diversity becomes important when someone specialises in a type, and when the specialisation is in a single type combination it’s lost.

Yeah. I highly doubt that Gym Leaders would ever specialize in a single type combination.

My prediction:

1 - 3: Fire, Water, Grass, free choice in which order you challenge them
4: Ice
5: Ground
6: Fairy

Cant identify any more than that

First gym is gonna be either Flying, Rock, Normal or Bug like always, because these are the most easy and doable types for the first gym. I can't see any other type being used as the first gym type. Grass, Fire and water are already a bit to strong.

I know that Cilan, Chili and Cress used Pokemon of those types, but that was only one Pokemon. The rest of the gym was pretty much normal type and you get a monkey as a gift to make it easier to beat them.

I predict normal or flying for the first gym. Normal is a bit overused lately, so I prefer a flying gym and that tower with the pokeball symbol on it in the first (probably) gym city could very well be one.

They could always do something different for the first gym. Although, it has to be reasonable.

I personally am hoping that the Gyms aren’t just a bunch of local soccer fields/football pitches that basically serve as “Battle Royale meets Gym Battles”. I’m hoping that we see a number of twists to the whole idea, like maybe have the Water-type stadium be a swimming pool or something, and others play to the type theme and sport/competition they host there.

One idea for a Gym Master I just thought of is some kind of violinist or symphony conductor, possibly as a slight shout out to the London Philoharmonic Orchestra. We’ve seen musician characters before, but mostly just the stereotypical “rock star” types (Roxie, Ryuki) and so I think it might be nice to see someone who represents the more classical or artistic forms of music. Not sure what type of Pokémon they’d specialize in - maybe Fairy or Ghost?

We will surely have grass , water , dark, poison, rock/ground , steel, dragon, fairy/electric gyms
If that town in the south was the starting town, that means that the player will keep going to the north,so steel is the first , fairy/electric is the last, also ,there was a railroad passing by literally everything , without forgeting that car (or maybe even the train) in the snow , so maybe this would be the first official free world pokemon game (it's better than being true)

Other than the six gyms we can actually see on the map, I suspect the central building in the large dragon city is one because it has the same "two rows of windows, surrounded by pillar" set up, and then, in the London-esque city at the top, either the building directly behind the fountain or the red Wembley-esque one (since the center building does have a symbol above the entrance). It makes sense to me that those two might look different.

I'd say the steampunk city will be Fire, just because Steel might be too difficult for a first gym. It's also possible they'll make us go to the Grass type gym first and then backtrack, in which case it could be anything.

It'd be nice if gym 8 was something really unexpected, like Normal type or being not type specific.

The first Gym Leader has been confirmed. He is a Grass-type leader named Milo. Based on the trailer, I think that all of the Gym Leaders will use the new Dynamax mechanic.

Dynamax is the new mechanic and apparently isn’t something special like mega evolution so I agree that we’ll be seeing it every gym battle.

Also seems like every battle will be in a stadium. Its weird that we seem to have to change into a jersey but not the leaders, but oh well. It’s an interesting change from the usual gyms, that’s for sure. I wonder if we’ll still have gym trainers.

Oh and dark type gym please. It just feels like they’re not doing one just to troll us at this point.

I really hope that jersey is just a customization option and not a mandatory thing we have to wear in the Gyms. Well, at least Gyms and Gym Leaders are returning with a stadium gimmick and not replaced with Island Trials. And now that those stadiums have been confirmed to be Gyms, they better give us a Dark-type Gym. It was bad enough that the Fairy-type had already beaten the Dark to the Gym when Fairy was only present for one generation that had Gyms while Dark is entering it's 20th anniversary!
