Or, hear me out, they revealed Bea and Allister before others in order to reveal that there are version exclusive gyms in this game.

It's possible that Kabu is indeed a Steel-type specialist, considering that Kabu's name might be short for Kabuto, which is a type of armor commonly worn in feudal Japan.Actually, he’s supposedly the third Gym Leader while Opal (the Fairy type leader) is fourth.
If that’s true, I’m thinking that the real reason that they revealed Bea & Allister out of order is because one of them will be a traveling companion of Ash’s in the anime.
But as for Kabu’s type, I would have to guess Steel with a steampunk theme.
Kabu by itself means fog though. It's possible that Kabu is indeed a Steel-type specialist, considering that Kabu's name might be short for Kabuto, which is a type of armor commonly worn in feudal Japan.
That's another possible meaning. We'll never know until he/she's officially revealed.Kabu by itself means fog though.
That isn’t really a bold prediction, since gym leaders often have their types as hair colours.
That's what I noticed for both XY and SM. They tend to reveal Gym Leaders/Trial Captains in order unless the character is going to be a companion of Ash. For XY, Viola, Grant, and Korrina (the first 3 Gym Leaders) would be revealed in sequence if it wasn't for Clemont (who is the 5th Gym Leader, and was a companion of Ash) being revealed alongside Grant, before Korrina. For SM, Lana, Kiawe, Mallow, and Sophocles were all revealed before Ilima was, despite the fact that Ilima's trial is taken before any of theirs (the former 4 all became Ash's companions and their trials are taken consecutively). As per the credible leak, Milo, Nessa, Kabu, and Opal are the first 4 Gym Leaders to be battled. Milo and Nessa were the first two Gym Leaders revealed, although Bea and Allister were revealed out of order and before Kabu and Opal. Because of this, Bea and Allister are very likely to be Ash's companions unless either the credible leak is actually fake or the writers decide to break this trend.Actually, he’s supposedly the third Gym Leader while Opal (the Fairy type leader) is fourth.

Lt. Surge, Janine, maybe Falkner(??), Pryce, Clair, Flannery, Wionna, Wallace, Juan (highlights), Fantina, Volkner, Cilan, Chilli, Cress, Elesa, Brycen, Marlon, Clemont, Olympia, Wulfric, Nessa (highlights).Misty, Erika, Blaine, Giovanni, Bugsy, Whitney, Mortey, Jasmine, Brawly, Watson, Norman, Gardenia, Maylene, Candice, Lenora, Burgh, Skyla, Drayden, Roxie, Cheren, Ramos and Valerie didn't. Which is a fair share, so using hair types to identify typings for Gym Leaders kinda goes moot.
Yeah, I just personally find a direct translation related speculation more than breaking a word and using its meaning. That's another possible meaning. We'll never know until he/she's officially revealed.
There’s the simple possibility that they wanted to showcase exclusive gyms and the first four are not version exclusive. As per the credible leak, Milo, Nessa, Kabu, and Opal are the first 4 Gym Leaders to be battled. Milo and Nessa were the first two Gym Leaders revealed, although Bea and Allister were revealed out of order and before Kabu and Opal. Because of this, Bea and Allister are very likely to be Ash's companions unless either the credible leak is actually fake or the writers decide to break this trend.
However, the name origin you mentioned is correct, as Kabu does mean "fog" in Fijian. This would imply that Kabu is a Flying-type specialist, if your theory is correct.Yeah, I just personally find a direct translation related speculation more than breaking a word and using its meaning.
However, he/she might not even the Gym Leader there, and the name does not imply Fire-typing at all.I think he's a fire gym. Gamexplain did show off the interior of the steampunk gym, and there's a lot of fire patterns inside
Not mention fog could be a reference to the Great Fog incident in London, cause by the burning of coal mixed with mist, causing tons of smogHowever, he/she might not even the Gym Leader there, and the name does not imply Fire-typing at all.
That event is actually called the Great Smog of London, and fog and smog are two completely different things, as fog is a natural occurrence while smog is man made. Not mention fog could be a reference to the Great Fog incident in London, cause by the burning of coal mixed with mist, causing tons of smog
However, they might not do that, as there is other possibilities. We'll never know until Kabu is officially revealed.I actually thought Kabu could also be like "kaboom", the sound of an explosion. Most related to fire. Regardless, 'ka' is what the kanji for fire is often read as (like Kayoubi), so there is that connection as well. And like what was pointed out above, the inside of the gym area has fire-colored floors. It's a fire gym, and it nicely completes the Grass/water/fire trio of the first three gyms.
The gyms really serving as portal blocks, with the gym leaders serving as defenders, is an awesome idea that I hope is true now!Theory time. Galar is riddled with holes across the region that seem to connect to an alternate dimension. This dimension is irradiated with some kind of energy that has a unique effect on pokemon that wander into these holes (Raid Pokemon), in which turns the pokemon gigantic, or even transforms them, while also granting the enhanced power to their moves. Some parts of the region has even bigger portals to the dimension that is leaks tons of that energy out. These portal are what the gyms and league are built on top of. The leaked energy surrounds the gym, which is why the stadiums are on of the only places you can dynamax. However, building stadiums on top of the portals might also serve an alternative purpose. A pokemon that seems to reside in that alternate dimension is trying force it's way into Galar, but the stadiums serve as a form of seal to prevent it from coming through this pokemon is Eternatus. A pokemon that once before has cause havoc on Galar, but was forced back into the dimension it came from by Zacian and Zamazenta. But after centuries, it's close to returning with more and more portals opening in Galar. Meaning the boundaries is slowly crumbling. And the legends can sense his coming, that's why in their debut trailer, they were on guard.
