Alright, this is a thread for those who like the pairing of Misty/Brock...

Yeah, I know that there's not alot of evidence for gymshipping, but I hapen to think that they suit each other well regardless..

and for those who don't like or don't support gymshipping - You're entitled to your opinion. All I ask is that other views be resected and this thread not be turned into a debate thread.. you can create a whole new thread for that if you wish (though I don't think that anybody would be bothered)

Now, that's not so hard is it :p

I love Gymshipping. ^_^ There's nothing like a good sidekick romance. Unfortunately, Brock seems to be the only one of Misty's travelling companions that she hasn't ever fallen for, but I guess there's always fanfiction. ;)

You know, I wonder sometimes what might have happened if Brock had been written out after Johto along with Misty. I'm one of the people who thinks that Misty and Tracey have a little thing going on at the moment, but let's face it, if that's true the only reason it happened is because the writers wanted to resolve Misty's crush on Ash and Tracey was the most convenient male for her to shift her affections onto. But if Brock had been around, might things have turned out differently? Pewter City is even closer to Cerulean than Pallet Town - and Brock's a more important character than Tracey - and he needs a happy romantic ending more than Tracey - and Misty knows him better - hmm.

I believe the line from Gambler Club's doujin summed it up best.

Takeshi is interested in older women. A younger girl like Kasumi, who hasn't even "filled out" with an adult body, won't attract his attention at all.

Still though, I *did* use to be a GymShipper, a long long time ago. Could it happen? Unlikely, though if they pair Satoshi with anyone but Kasumi in the end, all bets are off. They have appeared together as hosts for Pokémon HoSo afterall. The big question would be if Takeshi considers her to be like a little sister, like he considers Satoshi a little brother.

In "Gotta Catch Ya Later", he is really into the 'best friend' stuff. And not in the way Ash and Misty were making it, either. So we currently haven't seen anything in the way of GymShipping.

But Cerulean City and Pewter City are very close together in the anime, as shown by the speed Ash passed by them on both occasions. So if Brock goes and Misty stays gone, then we may see something in the future...

Ture, I have yet to see Brock fall for anyone younger, oh well.. just have to wait and see....

and I'm not really expecting anything for now, since I'm sure the writers want to have Brock stay single for as long as possible...of course I'm hoping that eventually.. they'll pair him up, and Misty's the only person I can see him with...

As for recent hints, well, there hasn't been any real evidence suggesting that thery're in love with each other (and I wasn't expecting any)

But did anybody else happen to notice how, in the Mt Moon episode, Brock as the only who who seemed to be concerned for Misty's wellbeing?

Yeah, I'm sure that there's a prefectly platonic explanation.. still.. it was nice to know that he cared :)

I wonder if Misty is attracted to older men like Brock and Tracey, since both of them know a little (very little) about romance and she's always going on about how much of a romantic she is. At least with Brock or Tracey, she'd have their undivided attention. I'm writing this while thinking back to my own adolescence. I was never attracted to guys my own age. I always liked older guys; I don't know, they just seemed cooler to me.

Well, I tend to think so. Afterall, in spite of what Misty's sisters might have said in the Manga, she herself has said that she prefers guys that are more mature

I think so too, considering how she flirted with Danny (Navel Island).

Of course, with Misty, it may be a case of the lady doth protest too much. If she supposedly likes older guys so much, why has she found herself so fond of Ash?

I have to grant at least though, she certainly has shown a predisposition towards more "mature" or "refined" men. Perhaps that's Brock's problem? He doesn't act mature enough in romantic situations to appear on her radar?

The problem here is, Brock is way too horny for Misty's tastes.

Perhaps. I happen to think that the reason why they haven't shown any overt feelings for each other (in spite of their interest in romance) is due to the writers... I don't think they wanted to bother with such a storyline- How many times can you be rejected by the same person? (yes, I know it was done in Love Hina and Inuyasha, just bear with me here please) Eventually the gag would get monotonous..

In addition, they've been doing the gag of Brock falling in love with the random girl of the day for quite a while now, and I also happen to think they're going to try and milk it for all it's worth - meaning that if they intend to have him settle eventually, it won't be till the near end of the series..

So does this mean that, out of all the members in this forum, only one other person actually likes this ship? *sigh* oh well -_- I'm not that surprised

I think she realizes that she has more in common with Ash than she does with the other guys who've shown an interest in her, or vice versa. Rudy probably came the closest to being the guy she thought she wanted, but in the end, she chose Ash over him.

Brock's problem, aside from raging hormones, is that he probably sees Misty only as a 'younger sister' type. Brock only chases girls his own age or older.

Not everybody happens to think that Misty has/had a crush on Ash, but that is beside the point, and I really don't want to start a debate on that matter here..

The thing is, how Brock feels about Misty is more or less unknown, perhaps he see's her as a younger sister, but he's never really said anything about it..

and with Misty at Cerulean Gym, I don't think the topic is going to pop up anytime soon for him to say...

While if Misty still has a crush on Ash might be up for debate, her feelings *were* confirmed at the end of Johto, so you can't really deny that.

As for Brock considering Misty like a little sister, and Ash like a little brother, he *has* literally said as much, though I don't remember what episode exactly off the top of my head.

I might as well think up another topic for this thread..

For those who actually support this shipping, why do you like it?

Hmm.. I'll put my reasons up later...

Well, I'm no longer a supporter, but when I was....Ash just didn't seem mature at the beginning, Brock hadn't started going overly girl crazy, and the person who introduced me to Pokémon biased me with their own GymShippy leanings.

Is that person still a Gymshipper, may I ask?

LOL, for me, the situation was quite different...

I first came across Gymshipping from a Pokeshippers site.. So naturally one would think that I would become biased towards Pokeshipping also, right?

Well, obviously that didn't happen... The webmaster had a paragraph concerning Gymshipping and why it didn't work, but it only served to make me more curious, and I ended up liking it that way..

That was YEARS ago.. and in spite of everything, I still like it, though admittedly it wasn't easy finding others who liked Gymshipping too

So why do I like it? Well for one thing, there both interested in romance, which made it easier for me to picture them both in a relationship.. I also thought that it would bring a nice resolution fo Brock's falling in love gag - thus it would actually serve a purpose in terms of plot (unlike soo many Disney movies in which the pairings felt thrown in just for the sake of it -_-)

I also like the irony of it, and the fact that it would teach an important lesson - A real relationship is based upon friendship , NOT infatuation.

Yeah.. I guess that's it :)

I like this notion and have found it to be very true in real life. Of course, this argument could be used to support several different ships as well. My problem is finding decent Gymshippy fanfiction. Spruceton Spook's "My Coney Island Baby" is one of the better offerings on Fanfiction.net.

*waves hand in air* Oooh! Me! Memememe!

Good question. I guess I largely started liking it because Misty and Brock are my favourite twerps by far, and I felt sorry for them both for their sucky love lives. Then there's the sidekick aspect - blame shipping Ron/Hermione for this. :p There's something nice and fair about Gymshipping. It's very much a relationship of equals, without one party having to ultimately defer to the other, which is one problem with Pokeshipping. Hero/sidekick romances tend to be rather unbalanced, because the sidekick usually gives more and sacrifices more for the hero than the other way around. And there are probably other reasons, but it's late and I can't think of them now. :p Maybe later.
