Runekyō - Sootopolis religion

Runekyō

Definition and Names
  • Indigenous religion of Sootopolis City
  • Polytheistic
  • ルネ教 (Hinodego) Ρουνέκυο (Chrysosian)
  • ~20,000 adherents (about 80% of the Sootopolis City population practices it, and about 65% of the diaspora1 practices it)
  • Adherents are called Runekyōto; ルネ教徒; Ρουνέκυοτο/Ρουνέκυοτα
  • Stories and beliefs from ancient Soootpolitan beliefs on the super ancient Pokémon (Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza)
  • Borrows from and influenced by stories and beliefs from religions and tales from Hoennese and foreign traders and fishers

Organization and leadership
  • Lorekeepers - 3 registered (Wallace Papadakis, Fotios Spyros, Ayano Iordanou), preserve and teach the culture and stories of their people. Mostly record keepers, but they're held in higher regard because of their importance to preserving Sootopolitan culture.
  • Bishops - 20 registered, govern and lead the bishoprics (or just churches in diaspora groups). Leaders of church-related work (i.e. services)
  • Priests - 122 registered, take on apprentices, do general service, church-related work (sing/play music, tend to shrines and altars, etc.)
  • There’s also the Sisterhood of Tziráchi, women (including female Pokémon) who vow to a life of charity. They mostly do charity work around the city and diaspora communities, though they also reach out to do regional work.

Creation of the World

“The world we know emerged from the Origin. From the Origin emerged also Groudon and Kyogre. While Groudon created the land, Kyogre created the sea. “But they fed on Sin2—created by Greed and Its children: Lust, Hate, Jealousy, Betrayal, and all of the world’s other woes. In consuming Sin, they turned on each other, starting a war between each other that took with it the children of the land and the children of the sea. “From the Origin came the Mediator of the Sky: Rayquaza. The Mediator quelled the fighting of Groudon and Kyogre, restoring balance to the young world. But Rayquaza couldn’t quell Sin or Greed or Their children. Not even the Origin could. “The people and Pokémon, born of the land and sea, were born after the chaos of the new world, born without Sin. They could feed on it, but they could also choose good. The Origin didn’t have the power to make them do good. Rayquaza granted Pokémon judgement, knowledge, and mediation, hoping they work together to create a better world and fight against Sin.”
— Myths and Stories of Hinode, Professor Laurel

Practice and Traditions

Calendar
The Runekyō calendar is divided into three seasons:
February - May, Saizón Kaióga (Planting Season)
June - September, Saizón Gourádon (Harvesting Season)
October - January, Saizón Rekkoúza (Resting Season)

Holidays
February 1 - Sootopolitan New Year’s Day. Feasts are held, prayers and promises for the new year are made, and money is given.
February 3-9 - Kaióga Feast Week. A celebration of Kaióga, featuring music and dance to pray for good rains. Runekyōto will take part in Nisteía3.
March 20-25 - Festival of Lokásoúvia - A week of celebrating love: love for family, love for friends, love for partners, love for the gods, and love for the world.
May 9 - Mánafi Feast Day - A day similar to Kodomo no hi (Children’s Day). Children fly kites, receive toys, and take part in community games.
June 3-9 - Gourádon Feast Week - A celebration of Gourádon, featuring percussion music and theatre to pray for a good harvest. Runekyōto will take part in Nisteía.
July 30 - Fláoutoagáne Feast Day - A day celebrating the culture and history of Sootopolis, featuring music and story readings.
September 2 - Samínas Feast Day - A day celebrating the wine harvest, featuring playwright contests, parades, costume parties, and alcohol.
October 3-9 - Rekkoúza Feast Week - A celebration of Rekkoúza, featuring family gatherings, rest, prayer, and contemplating the past year. Runekyōto will take part in Nisteía.
November 18-20 - Festival of Arousésou - A celebration of the arts, featuring art shows, contests, and other events.
December 2 - Látiosou and Látiasou Feast Day - A day of getting predictions of the new year and repenting and amending for past errors.
January 5 - Tziráchi Feast Day - No relation to Tanabata or other summer holidays related to Jirachi, more similar to Christmas. Gifts are exchanged, wishes and prayers are made, and charity events are held.

Birth and Baptism
When a baby is born, the baby and mother stay at home for the first 30 days, to prevent sickness from Sin. On the 30th day, the baby is baptised at the family’s church with sand (Gourádon), water (Kaióga), and a stone of jade (Rekkoúza). The Song of Manafí is sung when the baby is born and when the baby is baptised. The baby’s name is revealed to the public at the baptism.

Chigíri4
Runekyō confirmation. When a child turns 13 (lowered to 10 in Johto diaspora communities), they will have a Chigíri. Customs include consuming ground wafer and wine, symbolizing the land and sea, and reciting and singing several important texts.

Courtship and Marriage
Arranged marriages are still fairly common in Sootopolis City. When a Runekyōto turns 18, their parents will sew them a Sáli tis Láfkas, a pink shawl with their name and important aspects of their character embroidered on it. During courtship, a couple will exchange their Sália tis Láfkas, and during To Krevati, the marital bed is decorated with the Sália.

Weddings are very elaborate, usually including themes of the ocean due to the deities that watch over love and reproduction. Prayers are said, and the couple is wrapped in a gold ribbon to symbolize Rekkoúza. Gold, white, and blue are common motifs. After the blessings and the couple’s first kiss, they’re paraded to the house of the husband’s parents. An elaborate dinner is held, and late into the night, the couple sneaks up to the bridal chamber to consummate their marriage.

Prayer
Prayers are very personal and tailored to the individual, the god they’re praying to, and the circumstances surrounding the prayer. In typical everyday life, Runekyōto pray every morning, before every meal, and before sleeping. The standard formula for writing a prayer is “[Deity], [Title], [thanking the deity], [musing on the beauty of the world or people or Pokémon], [the wish], [a thank you], [by Earth, Sea, and Sky, in harmony]”.

Sickness
If possible, a priest will come to the bedside to bless the sick. If not, a housemate or friend will. Prayers are directed towards Tziráchi, and the Song of Tziráchi is sung at the beginning and the end.

Death
Public grieving is seen as a sign of bad luck, so instead, grieving family will hire professional mourners. The Angels of Tziráchi are called upon; the one called upon depends on the cause of death. The funeral is usually held on the third day after the death. Cremation is common, symbolizing the soul joining Rekkoúza in the heavens.

Black is worn by mourners, with a pendant of turquoise and gold on black ribbon. Depending on the mourner’s relationship with the deceased, they will continue the mourning phase for two years (parents/siblings/grandparents of the deceased), one year (children), nine months (grandchildren), six months (cousins/aunts/uncles/nephews/nieces), and three weeks (close friends). During this period, the mourning pendant is worn, and the mourner will not visit other homes.

Deities
Bold names indicate one of the members of the Sán'kakkai5. Italic names indicate their servants.

Rekkoúza (Mesolavitís ton Ouranón6) Emerald7
Patron of diplomacy, knowledge, judgment, and the sky. Guardian of the world and mediator of Gourádon and Kaióga. Flies through the skies and has a beautiful castle in the heavens.

Tziráchi (To Astéri) Turquoise
Patron of wishes, the sick, the injured, the mentally ill, children, and death. Messenger between the heavens and the earth, trying to fulfill the wishes of people and Pokémon. Followed by four angels: The Angel of Deaths by Violence, The Angel of Deaths by Disaster, The Angel of Deaths by Illness, and The Angel of Childhood Deaths.

Látiosou kai Látiasou (Ton Aióna) Jade
Twin gods of hospitality, altruism, traders, travellers, willpower, the mystical, the heart, silk, and the soul. Two shapeshifters known to disguise as weary travelers to make sure people practice hospitality. They also serve as oracles.
Arousésou (O Oneiropólos) Opal Patron of art, music, literature, and poetry. Born from the Origin and created the matter that became the land and sea. Currently in an eternal slumber, but left humans to create art to celebrate the world Arousésou created. Religious icons are based on their plates.

Gourádon (Oméga tis Gis) Ruby
Patron of the land and agriculture. Sleeps underground in a magma palace. They can bring great sunshine and bountiful harvest, but they can also bring volcanic destruction and intense drought.

Samínas (To Louloúdi) Amethyst
Patron of gratitude, food, wine, festivals, drunkenness, and flowers. Said to hold extravagant celebrations as a way to show gratitude for the world. Sleeps through the year until Saizón Gourádon, where they celebrate the beginning and end of the planting season.

Fláoutoagáne (O Dimiourgós) Peridot
Patron of metalwork, stone carving, the hearth, architecture, volcanoes, and music. Once a flute player, he travelled up a volcano to seek strength, only to discover he had it—in his creativity. Known to make everything from weapons to sculptures.

Kaióga (Álfa tis Thálassa) Sapphire
Patron of the sea and shipbuilding. Sleeps underground in a palace in the ocean trenches. They can bring plentiful rain and cool weather, but they can also bring destructive floods and terrible storms.

Mánafi (Prínkipas tis Thálassas) Lapis Lazuli
Patron of fertility, childbirth, parenthood, and family. Said to appear to the good of heart in the form of an egg. Said to play with lonely children, whose parents are away at sea for travel or work.

Lokásoúvia (Kardiá tou Margaritarioú) Moonstone
Patron of love (romantic, platonic, familial, and sexual). Depictions showed her followed by Luvdisc wherever she goes, holding a Clamperl in her hands. A prostitute who devoted her life to charity. Sacrificed herself so her village could escape before pillagers could get to them.

Important Locations

Cave of Origin
Said to be the birthplace of Groudon and Kyogre, and if they return, they can gain immense, uncontrollable power. As it is the home of the gods, Sootopolitans are not allowed to tread on it.

Sky Pillar
A resting beacon for Rayquaza, and a symbol of the friendship between Draconids and Sootopolitans. As it is the home of the gods, Sootopolitans are not allowed to tread on it.

Mt. Pyre
Not typically the final resting place of Runekyōto, though it is the location of the Red Orb and Blue Orb.

Churches
The primary houses of worship for Runekyōto. They’re simple buildings with elaborate decorations on the inside.

1Most diaspora groups, originating during the Hoenn Wars, are located in Kanto and Johto
2Called "Ρύπανση" (Rýpansi; lit. “pollution”) in Sootopolitan Chrysosian, though the most common translation is “Sin”
3"Νιστεία" (Nisteía) - “Fasting”. From sunrise to sundown, Runekyōto (save certain people, like the sick and pregnant) will abstain from consuming all sustenance except unleavened bread and water, symbolizing Gourádon and Kaióga and how the world relies on them.
4From Hinodego “契り” (chigiri), meaning “vow, promise”
5From the Hinodego “Sankakkei”, meaning “triangle”. The Chrysosian word for triangle is “τρίγωνο” (trígono).
6Each deity has a title, which is usually used to refer to them in prayers as a show of respect.
7Each deity also has a gemstone associated with them, which are often used when making icons of them

Dumping family headcanons so I can have a reference point for them
Proton is Kris's (full name Kristina) estranged father and Wallace's estranged uncle. Kris and Wallace are cousins.

Winona, Anabel, and Bugsy are siblings. Their uncle is Keith (Pokken Tournament), and their (step?)niece is Kahili.

Joe (Battle Revolution) and Steven are cousins, and Joe's dad is Mysterial (Battle Revolution).

Petrel is Sidney's estranged dad.

Ariana is Roark, Silver, and Mars's estranged mom.

Nessa's parents were Team Aqua grunts, and Sonia's parents were Team Magma grunts.

Archer is probably someone's estranged father who's to say.

Iris and Leon are cousins.

DJ Mary is a single mother, and her daughter is Whitney.

Also uh here's a family tree of the Hoenn TrioTM.

Energy
There are four main types of “energy” in the Facadeverse: psychic energy, dark energy, dimensional energy, and aura.

Psychic energy comes from positive emotions: serenity, love, calmness, etc. It’s what powers Psychic type abilities (shocker, I know).

Dark energy is far less understood than most energies due to stigma. It’s powered by negative emotions: spite, anger, frustration, etc. It’s what powers (gasp! Shocker!) Dark type abilities.

Dimensional energy is the stuff between universes. It’s the stuff that surrounds Fallers and makes them susceptible to UB attacks. Ghost energy is a subset of this (and also overlaps with other types of energy), as it’s a result of spirits passing through dimensions.

Aura energy surrounds all living things, and it’s what powers Fighting type moves. The best way to describe it is that it’s powered by a person or Pokémon’s physical… something. It also has colors depending on a person’s mood or energy abilities. A “Type Layer” sometimes surrounds a person when they’re particularly in tune with Pokémon of a certain type. In a way, this is why so many type specialists exist: you just vibe with a certain type sometimes.

Abilities to read and use all of these energies is present in everyone to some extent, though it’s influenced by factors like training and genetic predisposition. During the Kanto-Johto wars, Aura Guardians were almost completely wiped out, and their teachings are as such much more scarce than psychic teachings.

More asks - Please ask ( :

Feel free to bug me either here with canon characters or on my Fankid Blog with my OCs.

For Question 1 (What does your character’s name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded?), I'll give the character's in-universe reason for having the name.) I won't be doing Question 26.

*bugs you here*

I know this'd be a lot added up so of course you can only do the ones you want or have answers for - but I would love to see any of your thoughts on questions 06-15 and/or 36-45 for Red, Leaf, and Blue. <3

Also, question 27: "If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it?" ...for Wallace, Winona, and Steven, because why the heck not.

Red/Blue/Leaf + Wallace/Winona/Steven asks

Oh heck yeah

(Some headcanons for context: Red is agender, using any and all pronouns. As for ships, I have Leaf/Kris and Red/Blue.)

CW//Mental Illness, Parental Abandonment
06. Do they have any hobbies that their lover finds unusual, odd, or otherwise annoying?
Climbing mountains and not telling Blue They're pretty into urban legends and computers, which Blue doesn't get, but pre-the-mountain-disappearance, Blue would reluctantly follow Red around or stay up late until Red got a Computer ThingTM done.

07. Is there a catchphrase or sound that they tend to make a lot (likely without being aware of it)?
Not a whole lot, since she's nonverbal.

08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it?
Their stubborness. They don't see it as a problem; they see it as a virtue, a drive that makes them better and better. Everyone else considers it a very big problem.

09. Do they have a favorite season? What about a favorite holiday?
I guess spring? It's very pretty with the cherry blossoms, and the weather is very nice. She doesn't have a favorite holiday.

10. Is your character more feminine or masculine?
They stand firmly androgynous.

11. What is something that would make your character fly into a rage?
Pokémon abuse and Team Rocket.

12. Is there some particular talent, skill, or attribute that they simply could not give up?
Pokémon battling. Even at the cost of his health, he's always pushing himself to do better, never satisfied with himself.

13. What are your character’s sleeping habits? Heavy or light sleeper? Blanket stealer? One that always rolls onto the floor? Pushes their lover onto the floor? Sleep talker or walker?
Will sleep anywhere in any position.

14. Do they live alone or with family? How do they feel about their family/roommates?
Red was raised by a single mother for basically his entire life. He never really knew his father, other than for the fact that he left to become a Trainer and probably never came back because he failed at that. That was sort of the original reason why Red wanted to be a Pokémon trainer—to do what his father couldn't. He loves his mother, and he expresses this love by trying to be the best for her—for better or worse.

15. Is there a certain person in this world that they cannot stand? The very mention of this person’s name makes them tremble with anger or fear.
Giovanni.

36. Does your character have any medical conditions? Are they serious or minor? Do they affect their day to day life?
He probably has some unresolved trauma/mental issues that have taken their toll on him, but he either doesn't realise or refuses to acknowledge them.

37. What are some of your character’s pet peeves? What are some things that annoy them or disgust them?
Potty humor.

38. What kind of weather does your character like? Cloudy skies, rainy days, sunshine, etc?
Cooler weather.

39. When people look at your character, is there some assumption they might make about them just by appearance? Is that assumption correct?
"Damn they don't get outside." Which is wrong. Red is outside a lot.

40. Does your OC have any guilty pleasures they enjoy? Hobbies, past times, music, etc that they wouldn’t want known by others?
He really likes spicy candies.

41. Does your character’s family affect your character in any way?
Yes, just not in the way that she tries to.

42. Is there anything in your character’s past that they regret, haunts them, or they wish they could change?
They wish they hadn't let Giovanni get away before he disappeared.

43. Does your character have a switch that changes aspects of their personality whether they are around friends, family, etc. Is there someone who gets to see their true self?
The closest anyone has ever gotten to seeing/understanding Red is Blue realizing that maybe something's up.

44. Is there a particular event that would emotionally devastate your character?
Losing any or all of his Pokémon.

45. Is your character the kind to hide their true emotions or do they wear their heart on their sleeve?
HEY-ey You've Got To HIDE. YOUR. ~Love awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy~

CW//Mental Illness, Parental Abandonment, Suicide
06. Do they have any hobbies that their lover finds unusual, odd, or otherwise annoying?
Pranking others and being a little shit

07. Is there a catchphrase or sound that they tend to make a lot (likely without being aware of it)?
"Smell ya later!"

08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it?
His arrogance. He slowly realizes that it might be an issue. Slowly.

09. Do they have a favorite season? What about a favorite holiday?
He's been doing reading on Balgeunese and Sootopolitan holidays, and Tziráchi Feast Day sounds really cool. Because presents. Oh and charity is cool. But so are presents.

10. Is your character more feminine or masculine?
I guess masculine? Like pretty boy masculine.

11. What is something that would make your character fly into a rage?
Listen, Blue will call Red, Leaf, and maybe even his five or so parents a bunch of names like dumbfuck or poopoohead, but I swear to Mewtwo if you call those people dumbfucks or poopooheads Blue will fly into a rage. A RAGE, I tell you.

12. Is there some particular talent, skill, or attribute that they simply could not give up?
Making the sickest burns  Just kidding. His status as Gym Leader.

13. What are your character’s sleeping habits? Heavy or light sleeper? Blanket stealer? One that always rolls onto the floor? Pushes their lover onto the floor? Sleep talker or walker?
He likes sleeping on the couch, but he'll also sleep in a bed I guess. He snores and sleep talks very loudly. Oh yeah and he likes cuddling friends.

14. Do they live alone or with family? How do they feel about their family/roommates?
He was essentially raised by his older sister after his mother's death, and then he kind of claimed like five people his parents.
More seriously:
Dad: Abandoned the family for similar reasons to Red's dad. The vibe of the Blue-dad relationship is this iteration of Daddy's Song.
Mom: Committed suicide when Blue was a toddler. It's... a sore subject.
Daisy: The two mostly get along, but Daisy isn't around a whole lot because of work and school.
Wallace/Winona: Sometimes lives with them. He's trying to learn about their cultures.
Steven/Cynthia/Lance: The uncool parents who make him do homework > : ( just kidding Lance is cool. Steven and Cynthia are also cool but they're on thin ice.

15. Is there a certain person in this world that they cannot stand? The very mention of this person’s name makes them tremble with anger or fear.
A lot of people. Like so many. So many people. Team Rocket people. Gramps. Like every kid in middle school who called him a doodoohead. Red at one point.

36. Does your character have any medical conditions? Are they serious or minor? Do they affect their day to day life?
He has undiagnosed depression, and he almost attempted suicide some time back. He tries to hide it by being a living shitpost, but sometimes... man it's exhausting.

37. What are some of your character’s pet peeves? What are some things that annoy them or disgust them?
Rules. Rules are very annoying. And broccoli.

38. What kind of weather does your character like? Cloudy skies, rainy days, sunshine, etc?
I guess rain? Cause it's good for Water types. Sucks for Flying types if it's bad rain, though.

39. When people look at your character, is there some assumption they might make about them just by appearance? Is that assumption correct?
"Wow Blue's a jerk." He's getting better and trying to redeem himself in a very Blue way.

40. Does your OC have any guilty pleasures they enjoy? Hobbies, past times, music, etc that they wouldn’t want known by others?
Reading. And writing fanfiction. It's not like he's a NERD or anything.

41. Does your character’s family affect your character in any way?
Yes. Quite a bit. Both his biological family and his stolen family.

42. Is there anything in your character’s past that they regret, haunts them, or they wish they could change?
All of the mean things he said as a young teen. Except when he called Gramps an old fart because he deserved it that time.

43. Does your character have a switch that changes aspects of their personality whether they are around friends, family, etc. Is there someone who gets to see their true self?
As he gets closer to someone, he might drop hints here and there of his hidden depths, and if they seem to be a parental type, he'll then proceed to trauma dump because he trusts the person.

44. Is there a particular event that would emotionally devastate your character?
Losing a loved one, or having a loved one abandon him for whatever reason. It's happened too many times.

45. Is your character the kind to hide their true emotions or do they wear their heart on their sleeve?
He hides his issues under layers of tomfoolery.

CW//Parental Abandonment
06. Do they have any hobbies that their lover finds unusual, odd, or otherwise annoying?
Leaf and Kris have a lot of similar interests, all things considered. There's not really anything that Kris finds unusual or annoying. Except the time Leaf tried to catch a human. Okay it was ten times.

07. Is there a catchphrase or sound that they tend to make a lot (likely without being aware of it)?
"Let's go!"

08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it?
You guessed it, stubbornness! She will complete the Pokédex. She will be the strongest Professor. At all costs. It's not a flaw! What are you talking about?!

09. Do they have a favorite season? What about a favorite holiday?
Winter! She loves the snow and the flowers that manage to fight against the elements despite everything.

10. Is your character more feminine or masculine?
Moderate feminine lean.

11. What is something that would make your character fly into a rage?
Someone catching a rare Pokémon before she can.

12. Is there some particular talent, skill, or attribute that they simply could not give up?
Their knowledge of Pokémon. Without it, she wouldn't have gone as far as she has.

13. What are your character’s sleeping habits? Heavy or light sleeper? Blanket stealer? One that always rolls onto the floor? Pushes their lover onto the floor? Sleep talker or walker?
She's a pretty light sleeper, and she needs a soft night light of some sort because pure darkness is scary. She likes cuddling people or things.

14. Do they live alone or with family? How do they feel about their family/roommates?
Her dad also left her at a young age! What a surprise! But then her mom remarried and now she has two cool moms.

15. Is there a certain person in this world that they cannot stand? The very mention of this person’s name makes them tremble with anger or fear.
People who are mean to her friends and family and Kris.

36. Does your character have any medical conditions? Are they serious or minor? Do they affect their day to day life?
No.

37. What are some of your character’s pet peeves? What are some things that annoy them or disgust them?
Other people bragging.

38. What kind of weather does your character like? Cloudy skies, rainy days, sunshine, etc?
Cool weather, maybe overcast or rainy. But sunshine is also cool. Aw heck, she likes all kinds of weather!

39. When people look at your character, is there some assumption they might make about them just by appearance? Is that assumption correct?
"Wow, she looks nice!" And they would be right! Just don't hurt her loved ones : )

40. Does your OC have any guilty pleasures they enjoy? Hobbies, past times, music, etc that they wouldn’t want known by others?
Video games. Violent video games > : )

41. Does your character’s family affect your character in any way?
Mostly in positive ways. They're very good people, probably one of the nicest families in the Facadeverse.

42. Is there anything in your character’s past that they regret, haunts them, or they wish they could change?
No regrets for Leaf! Everything is a learning experience and a chance to grow.

43. Does your character have a switch that changes aspects of their personality whether they are around friends, family, etc. Is there someone who gets to see their true self?
It's probably more gradual. Leaf is a pretty honest person with little to hide, though she tends to be more excitable around friends and family.

44. Is there a particular event that would emotionally devastate your character?
One of her loved ones getting hurt.

45. Is your character the kind to hide their true emotions or do they wear their heart on their sleeve?
Heart all over her clothes, babyyyyyyy

Also, question 27: "If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it?" ...for Wallace, Winona, and Steven, because why the heck not.
Ho boy.

CW//Drug Abuse, Murder
Wallace did a few illegal substances in college, and Hinode tends to have strict laws on drugs. He also miiiiiiiiiiiight fist fight a person if he feels they wronged him or a loved one in some way.

Steven's got mafia ties and has committed at least 20 accounts of theft, laundering, and murder.

Winona would NEVER commit a crime... she helped Steven kill a person.

What does Steven like to do to relax? I think that guy works too hard. He should take Saturdays too just relax and rest. But I don't know how he'd do it. Poor guy's such a workaholic.

Cave spelunking and reading! He needs to be convinced to take breaks from work, but when he finally gives in, it's worth it :)

Cave spelunking and reading! He needs to be convinced to take breaks from work, but when he finally gives in, it's worth it :)
Spelunking is such a fun word! I ougtta use that word more. He looks like a reader to me, too. Maybe some Hemingway, or whatever the pokemon equivalent of Hemingway would be.

Do you have any HCs for Team Magma and Aqua?
Teehee... yee. I had to do a bit of Aqua/Magma worldbuilding for a recent oneshot thing, and my notes for that were:

RSE Shelly
  • An edgy teen (okay she’s like 19 but still a teen)

ORAS Shelly (Izumi)
  • Childhood friends with Archie, but not afraid to call him out
  • Cares deeply about her friends and family and team
  • Advocate for prisoners and is not okay with them being tortured (she is in the minority...)

RSE Matt
  • * silently cracks his knuckles before silently killing you *
  • The most chill murderer
  • Sensitive uwu
  • He looks like RSE manga!Amber but also more buff and kind of like Draug from Fire Emblem?

ORAS Matt (Ushio)
  • Loves his friends
  • Not like other girls; doesn’t want to murder or torture people
  • Just help Archie
  • Has a crush on Homura

RSE Courtney
  • Angry
  • Angsty
  • Horny

ORAS Courtney (Kagari)
  • Torture as a hobby and a personality trait
  • Probably a Pinterest girl
  • Horny in a Yandere way

RSE Tabitha
  • An edgy teen (okay he’s like 19 but still a teen)
  • A bit arrogant and self-centered

ORAS Tabitha (Homura)
  • Really confident
  • Sometimes has a good point
  • But then he uses those points to like do evil
  • Has a crush on Ushio
Basically they're a bunch of angsty, horny sadists who got thrown together (well, the RSE admins and leaders got sent to the main timeline, where the ORAS admins and leaders are) because of Ultra Wormhole/Team Rainbow Rocket stuff. RSE Aqua/ORAS Aqua and RSE Magma/ORAS Aqua have to work together, either because of common goals (Aquas interacting; Magmas interacting) or because Team Rocket is making them (Aqua and Magma interacting).

Team Magma and Team Aqua were born out of the Hinode economic crash and the Hoenn Peace and Love Movement, albeit for different reasons: Team Magma felt that Hoenn needed to expand to improve the economy, while Team Aqua called for helping the environment. As time went on, however, Maxie and Archie became more and more extreme in their goals, and by the time they joined Team Rainbow Rocket, their original mission was forgotten, and they became puppets on TRR's greater goals of world domination.

Some Lisia headcanons
Inspired by @takoyaki to do some Lisia headcanons.

Lisiaaaaaaa.png

2. She's a big fan of magical girl anime!
3. She inherited her uncle's love of the ocean, her other uncle's love of shiny rocks, and her aunt's love of birbs.
4. She's a bit oblivious to... how do you say... dysfunction of her family? This was on purpose on her parents' part.
5. She has a big, BIG doll collection, and each doll has a unique personality. She loves sewing clothes for them.
6. She learned everything she knows about makeup, fashion, and sewing from Uncle Wall ^^
7. She loves fluffy and soft fabrics, and she refuses to wear scratchy fabric.
8. She sometimes comes off as gullible or easily trustable, but it's usually a facade. She usually knows when something's up, but she believes it's better not to pry further.
9. She doesn't like feeling bad emotions like sadness or fear. She has to stay POSITIVE.
10. She loves, loves, loves sparkles! Sparkles on everything!!!
11. She loves going to karaoke nights with her friends: Brendan, May, and Wally!
12. Whether it's a book, a movie, or a bedtime story, she needs to know whether or not it has a happy ending before reading/watching/hearing/etc. it.
13. She NEEDS to sleep in a bed with lots of plushies and fluffy pillows.
14. She's been meaning to try battles more seriously. It's important to be a well-rounded idol!
15. In a similar vein, she has a pretty well-rounded education. She started homeschool after moving to Lilycove City.
16. Speaking of which, she used to live in Sootopolis City, until her family moved to eastern Lilycove City when she was around 8.
17. Ali was a gift from Winona, and her Altarianite was a gift from Steven!
18. She thinks Tucker of the Battle Frontier is a cool guy. Any friend of Uncle Wall is a friend of Lisia!
19. ...and almost all of Wallace's unfriendly rivals are also really cool in Lisia's eyes.
20. She has a hard time switching from her idol persona back to her regular self. Regular Lisia is a lot more vulnerable and open about her emotions, and a bit more shy.

Surnames - Hoenn
May Birch (English, like the tree. You know, like Professor Birch?)

Brendan and Norman Yoshida (Japanese, from 吉 yoshi meaning "good luck" and 田 ta meaning "field, rice paddy".)

Wally Tsuruta (Japanese, from 鶴 tsuru meaning “crane” and 田 ta meaning "rice-field". The crane part references his Japanese name, Mitsuru.)

Roxanne Roche (French, cognate of Roach meaning “rock”)

Brawly Hamasaki (Japanese, from 浜 hama meaning "beach, seashore" and 崎 saki meaning "cape, peninsula".)

Wattson Surge (Yes I made Wattson and Lt. Surge cousins what about it.)

Flannery Farrell (Irish, anglicized form of Irish Ó Fearghail meaning "descendant of Fearghal"

Winona and Anabel Kimura (Japanese, see Bugsy. They’re siblings.)

Tate and Liza Hua (Chinese, from 花 huā meaning “flower”.)

Wallace William Papadakis (Greek, from Παπα papas, meaning ‘priest’, and the patronymic diminutive ending Άκης akis.)

Lisia Mizushima (Japanese, from 水 mizu meaning "water" and 島 shima meaning "island".)

Juan Aguado (Spanish, from agua meaning “water”.)

Sidney Schwartz (German, meaning “black”.)

Phoebe Nani (Hawaiian, meaning ‘pretty,’ ‘beautiful,’ or ‘attractive flower.’ Nani is also the Japanese word for “what”, and like… ghosts are a big “what”.)

Glacia Śniegowski (Polish, habitacional name from śnieg, meaning “snow”.)

Drake Ryūzaki (Japanese, from 龍 (ryū) meaning "dragon" and 崎 (saki) meaning "cape, peninsula".)

Steven Stone (English, his canon last name.)

Lucy Kanemaru (Japanese, from 金 kane meaning "gold, metal, money" and 丸 maru meaning "circle, round, whole".)

Greta Huang (Chinese, from 黃 huáng meaning “yellow”. Based on her Chinese name 黃瓜香. Took this one from @necropyromancer so… thanks!)

Tucker Waterman (English, from "servant of Walter", also an occupational name for a boatman or a water carrier. It could also describe a person who lived by water.)

Spenser Kourkoumákis (Greek, from κουρκουμάς kourkoumás meaning “turmeric”, where his Japanese name comes from, and the patronymic diminutive ending Άκης akis. I made this surname up. As far as I know, it’s not a real surname.)

Brandon Miyashita (Japanese, from Japanese 宮 miya meaning "temple, shrine, palace" and 下 shita meaning "under, below".

Noland Zhang (Chinese, from 张 Zhāng meaning”archer”)

On the Origin of Anabels
Some little Anabel stuff (CW//Dysfunctional family):

So Anabel, Bugsy, and Winona are all siblings. Winona never really got along with their mother (Rina) and step-sister (Theresa), especially once she reached adulthood. After a messy falling out between Rina and Winona, Rina moved to Johto, bringing the younger siblings along with her (at the time Bugsy and Anabel were 12 and 17, respectively). Once Anabel turned 18 not long after, she left home so she could escape her mother's crushing grip.

In the mainverse (Facadeverse), she ended up in Hoenn, eventually rising to the ranks of Frontier Brain, where she met Lucy.

In the secondary verse (Hulburyverse), right before becoming Frontier Brain (at age 20), she got Ultra Wormhole isekai'd to the Facadeverse, in 2985. It was here that she met Looker, and she later joined the International Police.

Facadeverse Kanto ships
FemmeGymShipping (Sabrina/Erika)
Being the second child of the Tanaka family, Erika never needed to do the whole arranged marriage thing. Sabrina never believed she was worthy of love because of her psychic powers. Omg the two fall in looooooove.

TeaShipping (Daisy Oak/Bill)
I live for drama, so these two are forbidden lovers… but they’re NERDS. Bill is betrothed to a woman he doesn’t love, and then he meets a girl in his Pokéanthropology class, and he falls head over heels for her… and then Daisy gets pregnant. Omg the drama.

Misty/Francon (OC)
Yes Francon is based on that mystery man Misty was with in GS/HGSS. Francon is a soft-spoken bookworm type, a balance to Misty’s hotheaded nature. He doesn’t like the spotlight; he’s fine just reading and being the Gym Leader’s girlfriend.

Returnshipping (Koga/Bruno)
Middle aged(?) people falling in love. Koga feels complicated feelings once he falls in love with someone who isn’t his late wife, and Bruno has uncomplicated “I like Koga” thoughts.

NamelessShipping (Blue/Red)
For their whole lives, they've had a love/hate relationship that eventually turned into "wait maybe I'm attracted to this person". And then, like, Red disappeared into the mountains and Blue was left to grapple with his feelings. Joy.
