This may sound like an odd question, but it would explain alot of irrational behavoir seen on the forums.
What I mean by "emotional investment"? I mean what do you watch the show for? How much do you really care about it and how do you react when something goes "wrong". Do you merely watch it because of a single a few characters and the whole show is merely a vehicle for said characters?
I myself view the cartoon merely as what it is. A cartoon that's ment for children. I think the show is handled well (from the producers perspective, they do things to the anime that would make the most money for them ie: promote a new game/movie). I view the characters merely as characters, and how they fit from the producer's point of view (how will they generate the most viewership).
