How will Pokemon X & Y impact the Anime? - UPDATE: Begins October!

Cilan has barely done anything related to his "job", which actually isn't similar to breeding at all.

I guess that the PokéRinger might make its return with the advent of sky battles.

Quite a bit of the new bond mechanic actually sounds like it may have been inspired by the anime, but even so there might be more to it that the anime could expand on. A person that specialises in improving bonds does sound a lot like a breeder or sommelier though.

It does seem like this is the games taking elements of the Anime, so it will be interesting how they put those back into the anime without it looking forced. The reason I love the Amie feature in the games is because that's exactly what I'd do if I had a Pokemon, which is why you naturally get that sort of thing in the Anime - but then when you get game features along those lines (like Poffin making when Brock was focused on Pokemon food in general) it seems to clash a bit.

I look forward to the episode where Team Rocket pretend to be 'Amie' specialists and steal Pikachu to play with it like in the games...

I'm thinking that one of Ash's next travelling companions (or, at the very least, rivals) might be a Fairy specialist, in order to give the type maximum exposure. Dark and Steel didn't get nearly so much love when Johto rolled around, but it's been well over a decade since we had a new type, so I can see it being treated as a pretty big deal in the anime too.

I'm not sure what to make of Amie yet, in terms of how it might translate into the anime. The mechanics are very reminiscent of Nintendogs, and its purpose is obviously to enhance the virtual pet aspect of the game, but this seems pretty redundant in the anime world, where trainers already care for their pokemon in every respect and are expected to build strong bonds with them. Personally, I'd much rather that they didn't invent a whole new profession for one of Ash's companions on the basis of this feature, particularly if it's as wishy washy as Sommeliering turned out to be in practice.

I saw in a screen shot that Yvonne is being used as a placeholder name for the female trainer. It's cute and would suit her if she travels with Ash.

The newly revealed Talonflame gives me a lot of hope. Ash will inevitably catch a Fletchling and then he'll have fire and flying in one meaning Fennekin can go to his companions. I really want them to go the AG route of one starter each so that Ash can have at least 4 Pokémon that aren't starters.

Most of all I want at least one companion that has a goal comparable to Ash's. Iris and Cilan have good chemistry and they entered a lot of tournaments but May and Dawn had a much better goal.

I don't expect the amie to mean anything in regards to the anime since it has already has that sort of stuff in it. It'll be interesting, though, if one of the Fairy pokes gets to fight Iris before this is all over. It's even been confirmed we're getting X/Y cameos in DA. Oh, and I guess DA is going to last to release after all since another ep was revealed that was not part of the original batch we got, and now the time to release is shorter. They don't have time for anything else.

What are the chances of Sana and the other two "friend" characters all being Ash's companions? They seem like perfect "sidekicks" to me in design and function. Big dude, small, nerdy guy, and a chick.

Of course, I also could see them perhaps serving as a friendly rival group Ash and co. encounter from time to time...it's always a bit boring how Rivals are lone-wolfs, so seeing a group would be neat.

I think it would make things interesting, having another group of 4.

I'll be pretty sad if they don't use Serena at all. I could see her as a snobby jerk rival, potentially one who used to be friends with the other companions but broke off from the group for whatever reason.

That sounds fun :)

We can certainly hope they do better than in BW (Arceus help us if they do any worse)

All three of them? Surely at least one of them is supposed to be a badge-collecting rival, unless the opposite-gender character is supposed to serve that purpose.

Honestly none of them look like they collect badges.

They're all around Ash's age and would mesh well with his BW look.

Wouldn't you have said the same thing about Bianca had she been paired with Stephan in the games?

Toroba towers over Sana who is visibly taller than Tieruno is, but obviously that isn't the problem since none of Ash's male compaions were his age.

That's because Toroba is the Gian archetype while Tieruno is the Tsuneo archetype, at least looks wisem the big dude and the short smart dude. I bet they're all around the same age.

It's pretty much the Doraemon/Detective Conan/Megaman Battle Network group that's common in anime, which is why I think they'd work alongside Ash.

This is what Masuda said yesterday:

There are characters that occupy the rival position, but we want the games to be about having fun with a bunch of people. There might be multiple rivals.
While he mentions having fun with the rivals, they're still just that - rivals. I'd be surprised if the rivals were different characters if that's what you're getting at.

I wonder if chances of seeing pikachu evolve in XY is higher than chances of winning a lottery..

I could see the species getting an alternate Fairy-type evolution, but even that wouldn't change the anime's status quo.

Yes please, I love Sana's design. I really hope she gets used over Yvonne, who looks not as unique as her. Sana looks like she could be the first latina Pokemon character and I'd love that, yay for diversity.(Sorta like how Unova gave us Caucasians, Indians and African Americans) She's adorable and I could easily see her with a Shishinko. Personality wise, she strikes me as the awkward and somewhat adventurous tomboy-ish type of girl. I'd love to see her go after badges as a rival or as a group member but I doubt that would happen if she was in the group. Sky Battles seem like the next best thing otherwise, Shishinko has a scorpion-like tail speculated by many to mean it would evolve into some type of Levitating Pokemon or a Manticore. If they do use her, please don't toss her Fennekin and Sylveon, I like both Pokemon but just because she's a girl doesn't mean she needs the most "feminine" starters and Pokemon of this Gen automatically, the writers already did that with Buneary and Piplup. I'd like her with Shishinko, Fletchling and Chespin for sure. I don't expect anyone in the main group to own Helioptile or Gogoat since Pansy with debut with those two. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they were tagged in the group.

Tieruno is cool too, I'd be satisfied with having a fat character in the group for once. I'm pretty sure they'd give him stereotypical personality traits like being a big eater, lazy or easily tired which would be a bit irritating at first given not all overweight people exhibit those characteristics. I'm thinking the Vannilite tee is just that a shirt and nothing more that gives an indications of him owning one. Because ya know, fat guy and Vanillite, ice cream. That's comedy gold right there!!!1111

As for Toroba, he's the least interesting. Seems like a nerd. He'd make a good rival.

Of course, I also could see them perhaps serving as a friendly rival group Ash and co. encounter from time to time...it's always a bit boring how Rivals are lone-wolfs, so seeing a group would be neat.
I'd love that idea too, the group could be lead by Sana and of course I'd love it if she was the main rival to Ash and gave us a true none pathetic or stereotypical female rival for Ash for a change. Please no obsession for cute Pokemon, overly stereotypical traits or dainty, doormatty behavior. This show needs more tough females. Those three would make an unlikely trio of friends, they all could be made for each other and mesh really well imo. Sorta like the Sinnoh trio in PokeSpe.

But of course that leaves Ash with no traveling companions, can't see Xavier and Yvonne being thrown in to be honest. They seem too old, so maybe Cilan will surprise us and stay? Burgundy hasn't been wrapped up as a rival technically, they could be saving her for XY. Not sure what chick they would use, definitely not Viola since she's a grown adult and the Bug-type leader of gym one. Maybe the Fairy-type leader who is speculated to govern Gym 2, assuming it's a she.

As for Fairy-type, I fully expect it to be introduced in one of Da! latter episodes with Iris's Kibago losing to it or something to demonstrate its super-effective qualities, that or Scraggy(Dark/Fighting double weakness, ouch). Not sure if they would make Iris fear it. I expect Kalos to focus on Fairy-types since Unova was all about Dragon-types.

Sana would make a great successor to Iris. I am in love with her design :) That said, I'd rather see her with a Chespin, who kinda fits her (brownish skin tone and the little front teeth). That lion thingy looks pretty lame, she deserves a Pokémon that look as good as her.

Not too fond of any of the designs. I'd be ok with Sana, but if she becomes a main part of the cast, than I'd really love to see her as somewhat of a dark/mean-girl type person. I actually could see her as a rival of Ash, but like I said, I would really only like her under certain circumstances.

That doesn't mean that those three characters have to be necessarily rivals in the anime. They could very well give to Ash some anime-exclusive rivals, like Paul and Trip.
