I'd say, if any return, I'd like Misty to return the most. I'd like Brock back as well, but if we have another DP happen to the poor guy, then a definite "no" from me. Ritchie and Gary would be cool to see back as well.

I don't think that alone will help make them the characters what they once were, even if they return, or the anime what it used to be. It would definitely be a step in the right direction for the series, though.

I'd like Misty to go back to her original goal. I'd be okay with Brock's current goal, but I did like his original goal to become a breeder much better myself. Gary would be great as a Pokemon Research and Professor like his grandpa, and I liked that goal myself. Ritchie was okay as a rival and worked well in that role.

I have to agree, I don't oppose misty coming back really, as long as she goes back to her original goal and as long as brock and misty are'nt walking wallpaper, while ash gets to do the fun and action things.

Same here. I will be fine with it as long writers provide plausible reason doing something worthwhile out of it.Not that i didn't enjoyed in Misty and Brock role(at least until DP) for what they were having memorable moments, but i always felt their joirney should have had more substance to it making them feel more relevant. As far as their careers go.

I think there exists potential to create some well written and cogent arc to develop Misty character more. I could see and like her leaving gym after learning everything she could there to advance dream of becoming master of water types going on next level as trainer by entering events which use water to full potential and test out if you know how to adapt to current situation and use terrain to your advantage. Whether its underwater battling, races, battles on dry land where you have to innovate etc.Learn about new kind of water pokemon and other types, ways to upgrade them(like mega evolutiojn) and meet other experts for which beyt way is in seeing world and experiencing other cultures being person which enjoys traveling.
Or try to become E4 member or apprentice(she did idoplize Lorelei) which fits her since they are best mono type specialists in world battling special examinators which would deem if she is worthy enough to reccomend it to league committee(just a thought seeming like logical way for progression), explore more on her past like family, fears from bugs, learn how to develop defense against electric or grass types or establish closer bond with pokemon growing emotionally.


And If Brock ever returns his new carer of pokemon doctor imo provides new fresh material to take his story in several different directions.If anything he can travel to other pokemon centres to learn new things, handle challenging cases, training purposes etc and meet other specialists informing him about new ways of healing and poke treatment while having nspecial exams where he could maybe battle to determine if he knows how to properly take care of pokemon(in Kanto we saw nurse Joy battling in ultimate test). I still think writers could revamp Brocks character to make him more interesting by revealing more of his past,starting to focus on some of his interest,introduce missing links from his history and issues which werent brought up before.

I don't know if writers will ever have motivation to do such thing, but i would like to see Misty and Brock joining Ash on one more journey. They had great interaction which brought humor,tension, conflict and everything which is needed to make quality dialogue between characters.

And in my opinion it would be intriguing to see friendship between them restored now that they are familiar with each other and take it to new direction, hitting road for one last adventure. It would add nice twist to show and make many people happy(i know i would be).

If anybody was to return I think Max should get the option. He could play the second main role instead of someone like Clemont if that were to happen but I doubt it. He was the only one that never got a pokemon or his own journey to do whatever he wanted to do as far as a goal is concerned.

Misty indeed. Her departure was so unjustified and idiotic that didn't make sense. I'm sorry to all May- Dawn lovers (i don't hate anyone), but to see her leaving like that; with her unfulfilled ambitions and her great potential was to me a great mistake. It was interesting to have a strong willed- slightly clumsy but determined Female character's point of view in the anime. The Whirl cup was a little example of the potential of the character in the story withouth neccesearly taking over Ash's main role (for those who think that that would have been a way too possible outcome) What better than a friend-adventure companion soon to become a gym leader to travel with you? The adventures the 3 of them could have gone trough (meanning Brock too) could have been magnificent. Not to mention all the "flashback" episodes they could have made later on.
Not to mention the skill-growth we could have been able to see in them (if, for example, they were still togheter) Now, if they had come this far it would be nostalgyc and glorious to review the firsts seasons- remembering their roots and their firsts adventures, etc.

So, despite the cheesynes, i would bring Misty and Brock back for sure.

We have our Ash-tachi for this series. Accept it. If some older characters come back for a few episodes (the Mega-Evolution situation is practically begging for May to return), fine. But let's not add needless characters to the cast for sake of nostalgia/pandering. It's bad enough we're forever stuck with Ash and the TRio without turning this into OS 2.0...

We don't want a repeat of what happened with Dawn in BW, now do we?

Iris and Cilan should return for a mini-arc just to catch up as per tradition. That's about it. There are characters I hope never leave, but I don't want anyone to come back once their stories are concluded.

I understand your point but, what you say suggest that you are sattisfied with the anime now which you are in your right to; but i can't get pass the amazing quiality drop that sems to never end- and im possitive that adding new "faces" of people who will become irrelevant every 80 episodes (or so) is not the answer. Yes, they have changed their target audience; so is all right to assume that that's the reason why it has changed so much- but i refuse to accept that after all the fansites created around the world (or at least Japan only) claimming for Pokemon to be as worth-watching as it used to be; producres still don't realise that the initial vision of the "show" left millions of people hooked on it, just look at us here; and yet most of us are not 7, 8 years old . Many of us are attatched to pokemon since our teenagehood or infances- (imagine the impact it would have had if at least the scrypts hadn't changed as much as they have) meanning, that to keep a certain audience for over 16 seasons must mean that they did something right in first place, doesn't it? specially if most of the people of that particulary audience complain about a bunch of factors that left pokemon as it is now. However!, ignoring all this, the only solution they find is to spit new combinations of eye colours and hairdos every season and still not get the world-impact thay aim for.
I have never worked at television before, i have no right to tell anybody how to do their job (i don't even have knowladge about what it takes to keep that sort of a work up) but coincidences my friends, do not exist (that i can assure)

So, all in all, I think that to keep up with this facade of "nah, let's just let them go and present some new 10-14 year old unagaeble vampires that satisfy only an audience that lasts 3 years" is not the solution for pokemon to become what it could become. Wasted potential is one of the things i just can't swallow

I don't know if this has been said but I would like May to return with her Blaziken so she can Mega Evolve it. I don't know exactly what role I want her to play maybe she could be around for a few episodes like Dawn in BW?? I just would really like to see May again

They could flesh out her WPM goal more, as well as finish her development. They could also explore her fear of bug types more and help her grow from it. Plus Ash had the best interactions with her. The School of Hard Knocks showed that she had some level of interest in French culture, so Kalos would have been perfect for her had she joined.

Who: Brock

Role: Traveling Companion

They could go more into his new career and try all sorts of new things with him, seeing as he's not limited like Misty. Whatever goes wrong that Ash/Misty can't fix, Brock will be there! Also, being a (former) breeder, they could implement the Pokemon-amie somehow and tie it to his former career, maybe even his doctor career if done right.

Who: Gary

Role: Researcher/Rival

He could know things from his research (for example, Electric types can't be paralyzed - since he's a researcher, he could provide an in-depth explanation of something like that) that Ash didn't, and be always one step ahead of him. His primary hobby is still researching, but he dabbles in the trainer life every now and then.

Who: Tracey

Role: Professor Oak's Assistant

Once in a while, Tracey can contact Ash and co. to tell them something he discovered with Professor Oak. Maybe he tells them about Fairy types in episode 10 or something to make them seem more mysterious.

Since its confirmed that no former travelling companions will come with him, I'd like to see the entire gang(Misty, Brock, May, Max, Tracey and Dawn) at least VISIT for a few episodes. It could be a reunion of sorts. And its terrible that we haven't seen Misty since AG, Max since AG, May since DP and Tracey(as a major speaking appearance) since the beginning of AG. I would absolutely LOVE to see them all together. Max could get a crush on Bonnie, Dawn and Iris can call Ash a little kid, Misty and May can see each other again. It would be awesome!

I'd love to see Misty, Gary, and Paul return! I'd want Misty to be a traveling companion again, Gary to just appear in maybe an episode or two, and Paul to be a rival again.

going by how the anime has done it i think Iris will be the only one returning. I only say this cause while ash was traveling with may misty returned, while traveling with dawn may returned and while traveling with iris dawn returned. For the reason I can only think it's to catch some dragon pokemon or some dragon champion there in Kalos.

Yes, you are right. Because if you are not aimming to be the absolute pokemaster of all types then your existance is ridiculose. Same as with Brock. Same as with everybody in the pokemon world who isn't absolutely passioante aimming to acquire that goal. It doesn't matter if all you want to do is to command the pokemons that use one of the universe most powerful erosive-corrosive sustance there is; and vital for every living being on this planet, it doens't matter if for you, that means absolute happynes; or if for you is just as important and worthful as being the master of all types. You are right, why balance? why people wanting different things? why aren't Ash's companions seeking the same goal- as well as the rest of the world- so that everybody ends up killing eachother? Makes so much sense i could just go buy a petrol ice cream.

For the love of God Misty please


I mean I don't want much (Even though in my perfect world Misty would still be traveling with Ash). How about a phone call from Ash to check on Misty or Ash catching a water pokemon and sending it to Misty? It's that too much to ask?

And I'll admit that I'm might be a little bias coming from a Pokeshipper, but like others had said on here, she has a lot of unfulfilled dreams and seeing her traveling with Ash and seeing that relationship develop again would be awesome.

The Anime was made to sell the game that happens to turn into a great hero's journey story. In the original series we cared about what happens to Ash, his relationship with his pokemon, and for us Pokeshippers, his interaction with Misty. The new show IMO just don't have that anymore
