What type would you run? How early/late would you appear in the game? What impact would you have on the plot, and what non-legendary Pokémon would be on your team regardless of the Gen?

I've always liked the idea of a pirate-themed Water gym. I'd run into the PC at ports throughout the game, then maybe give them a lift to the antagonist's hideout. Once everything has settled down, I'll be the final leader they'll face.
I could see my party being something like this:
  • Sharpedo
  • Kingdra
  • Jellicent
  • Lanturn
  • Pelipper

And I thought Clair's Kingdra was pretty tough! Or Juan's annoying Double Team + Smoke Screen Kingdra.

My type specialty would be Electric type, naturally. I'd appear late game, maybe around 6th-8th. Not entirely sure what effect I would have on the plot, but I would fight with the evil team. Here's roughly what my team would be:

Electrode
Zebstrika
Galvantula
Alola Raichu

I would be a Ghost type specialist with an artist theme, with a gym puzzle featuring haunted paintings (maybe some kind of spot the difference puzzle). I'd probably be the 5th - 7th gym challenge (not the 8th though cause I want in on the plot action). My team would probably be something like:
  • Froslass
  • Mimikyu
  • Chandelure
  • Banette (ace/signature)
I'd guess I could first introduce myself to the PC after they've won a major early battle (like a third battle against the rival or something), telling them they've inspired me to paint them and if they wish to see it they should come visit my studio in whatever city/town, where it is revealed I'm the gym leader

EDIT: I forgot to add this earlier, but I think I would hand out the TM for Nightmare (it would regain TM status) as it's thematically most fitting. Otherwise probably Shadow Claw/Will-O-Wisp/Dream Eater

I'd probably run Fire, only because there's not been many Gyms dedicated to it in prior gens. Maybe make it some sort of Asian festival with lion dancers and fireworks. Your trainer could hold on to fireworks and raise themselves to the next elevation, maybe even walk the tight wire next to hanging paper lanterns, where they would then have to drop them down to burn through wagons blocking the main plaza.

My line-up would have to include a new lion-looking Fire/Dragon-type Pokemon in its roster (with Levitate obviously), as that's probably something GF would do. The rest would be:

  • Arcanine
  • Pyroar
  • Emboar
  • Rotom (Heat)
I'd probably be a dude with a mask that protects a natural landmark filled with treasure from the enemy team, around 5th/6th Gym. Maybe some sort of shrine that pays respects to his town's ancestors and their Pokemon, contains some really powerful TM/item inside that you no doubt would be awarded, and post-game would hold the location to a legendary Pokemon.

If I have to be a single type, I'd go with Dark type since it's my favorite. Also because it's underrepresented in the games. It'd be a the 6th or 7th gym probably in a less-reputable town due to being one of the few places okay with hosting the Evil Type gym. Maybe even a hidden base for the regional villains is located in the town. Anyway, the gym itself would be a laid back space for people to just come and hang out. The door to the leader's room would be locked and require a couple keys that you would get by going into various rooms and battling the gym trainers, where you learn that the Gym leader has been doing their best to change the image of the town and dark types.

My team would include Drapion, Honchkrow, Houndoom, Bisharp, and Malamar.

The Dragon type would be my specialty. I'm not sure what my gym would look like exactly, perhaps a big castle on a cliff, that trainers actually have to work at to get to. I would have a full team of 6 Pokémon, because I'll be an actual challenge to a trainer. My team will consist of:

- Dragonite (nicknamed DragonKNIGHT) and would be my signature Pokémon
- Salamence (my Mega Pokémon)
- Hydreigon
- Flygon
- Haxorus
- Kommo-O

I'd be a normal type gym, and either the last or second to last one. It think it would be cool to see a strong normal type gym (I don't recall off the top of my head if there is one in the games). Theme-wise, it would just be a standard house, inside and out. All of the bedrooms would have a crap ton of pillows and blankets strewn around though, so it's super comfortable. When battling isn't going on, trainers are welcome to hang out and relax. Psychic Pokémon are kept around to deflect physical damage to the structure when battling is going on. Essentially, it's just a super comfortable house and people can even use the kitchen to cook food and stuff.

My signature Pokémon would be a Purugly named "Purrdy" (which is a pun off of the name "Purdy" and a pun off of a southern pronunciation of the word "pretty").

The rest of my lineup would be my favorite normal types (also I'm a firm believer in having a full party, so...) Their names and species are as follows:

Stoutland - Fluffy
Porygon-Z - George
Eevee - Mighty
Smeargle - Picasso
Zangoose - Pokey

I'm in a back bedroom, sitting on a large bed in a pile of my Pokémon (since they're soft).

Bug type:

Rimbombee,
Crustle,
Golisopod,

would fit perfect together with Powder, First Impression and Sturdy.

I'd most definitely run a Water-type Gym. Similiarly to Wallace/Juan's one, it'd be located on an island surrounded with water. Not sure about the puzzle, but I'd like the challengers to first beat all the Gym Trainers, much like we had to do before battling Gardenia. I'd use a full team of:
Swampert
Starmie
Milotic
Azumarill
Lanturn
Gyarados

I am a Grass type Gym Leader. And my gym is the 5th gym you should defeat. I am also a biologist ( for real ) and assistant of the professor in my reigon. My gym is also my laboratory. Where you can research grass type pokemon's behaviors.

My Pokemon Team for Challengers
- Skiddo
- Whimsicott
- Venusaur (Ace)

Rest of my team
* Breloom
* Roserade
* Tropius

I'd probably run a Bug gym, and I'd be the seventh gym leader in the game. The Pokémon I'd use would favor versatility and coverage over raw power (as a lot of Pokémon in the early game can easily defeat Bug-types). These would be Heracross, Yanmega, Scizor and Beedrill. Probably clichéd elections, but still.

I'd be a flying type gym and I would have a sky pirate theme. My gym would probably look like a big steampunk airship (imagine the body of a pirate ship attached to a blimp. It would look a bit like that) that would go high into the sky when I'm being challenged by a trainer. It would be surrounded by blue sky and an ocean of clouds below.
My team would consist of:
- Pelipper
- Altaria
- Drifblim
- Swellow

If I had to conform to one type, I would go the bug route like many others. And if I could choose I’d also prefer to be late-game, to prove how strong some bug types can be. Obviously Butterfree would be my ace. Other than that, I don’t know. I have a lot of favorites.

If I didn’t have to pick one type, I would go with a musically-themes gym, doubling as like a performing arts center or something. My Pokémon would all be those that are sound/music based, such as Chimecho, Exploud, Kriketune, and Noibat. There are a lot of others, so I’d have to pick them out more carefully if I cared enough.

Oh, and since the gym would be full of musicians (should totally be a new trainer class), I would act as the “conductor” of the gym. I can just imagine some sweet puzzles that involve various instruments playing fun past songs from the franchise as Easter eggs.

Silly Vaan. Sky pirates are for Final Fantasy!

a grass-type gym! unsure what region it'd be situated in, but the idea of a gym hidden deep in a forest as opposed to being in a city/town would be ideal - all worn-out and rustic looking, probably covered in ivy. probably appearing quite early in the game (grass isn't versatile enough as a type to appear too late imo) so maybe the third/fourth gym or so. since the gym's so early i probably wouldn't have too much a role, maybe helping them through the forest to get to the gym in the first place or something similar. as for my team... a lurantis, a leafeon, and an ivysaur, with leafeon being the ace.
