I have always been partial to owning a Dark Gym, probably because it’s my favorite type. It’s, as mentioned beforehand, never been done before and thus has a ton of potential. I think, however, that I personally cannot find an outstandingly original idea for one. The obvious choice would be a haunted house / delapitated manor but that screams “Ghost Gym” to me. I’ve never come up with an idea that would really make it a creative masterpiece. Umbreon would 100% be on the team, however.

I think that a Grass Gym would be an amazing fit for me, however. I’m a HUGE environmentalist and the idea of preserving rare and endangered species would be an awesome concept that I would love to incorporate into my gym. Some variation of botanical gardens would be a lovely setting. Amazon, as a company, is nearing the completion of their newest project; huge glass spheres filled with endangered plant species. It’s located in my home city of Seattle and I’m so excited to tour it upon completion. That would be the concept I’d use for my gym.

Challengers would have to progress through different spheres that contain different environments. Plants grow everywhere, so there would be different types of ecosystems in each dome. One would house a forest, another a desert, another a canyon, a rainforest, and so forth. Inside each dome would be trainers that would have to be challenged and defeated before moving on. The domes would also double as a refuge for endangered Pokémon species that are protected so that they can reproduce. It would be a conservation effort as well as a Gym.

I would be located at the final and largest dome, of course, and would have a variety of grass pokémon that could be interchanged depending on the challenger’s level. If I had to pick six, however, I would probably choose:

1. Sceptile / Venusaur (Mega)
2. Leafeon
3. Treveant
4. Ludicolo
5. Torterra
6. Breloom

I'd obviously go with a Bug-type gym, which surprises no one. The gym theme would probably be a giant glass dome/insectarium that has robotic "butterflies" flying around and "spider threads" that are actually bungee cords. You grab onto a bungee cord from below and get tugged up to the next floor; sometimes you end up right in front of a trainer who will battle you.

My team would, of course, be Golisopod, Scizor, Volcarona, Galvantula, Scolipede and Yanmega.

I'd definitely go with a Ghost gym, as many of my favourite Pokémon share this type and it's the most common to show up in my teams.

My gym could be set up inside the catacombs of an old town. The hallways and chambers would be pitch black with only the light of a helpful Litwick guiding your way. Channelers and Hex Maniacs would emerge creepily from the darkness in front of you, sending out the likes of Yamask, Cofagrigus and the Gastly line. As you progress, you would descend further and further below the surface and the music/sound design would become more ominous.

Perhaps you wouldn't even know it was the gym at first. There could be rumours heard throughout the town that people have been getting lost underground, possibly eaten by the monstrous "EggPawn" or whatever name I'd use. Once finding and battling me, you'd learn that the whole creepy populace was in on it all along!

It would likely be the 7th gym, as I'd want it to be challenging but not necessarily the final bout. My roster would consist of:

Alolan Marowak
Gourgeist
Mismagius
Decidueye
Froslass
Chandelure

I have always wanted to be a Psychic type gym leader, even though there is a lot of types I also like.
My gym would be in a desert and it would look a bit surreal, like a mirage. On the outside, it would look like a colorful sultan's palace. Or maybe a palace with arabian and indian influences, but obviously, colorful, trippy and mysterious. Inside it will be a labirynth of staircases but not dark - bright white, silver, gold. The endless stairs would lead to the room where I would wait, trainers there would be dressed in white clothes and would be called my "pages" (even if they weren't). I would be dressed in some pretty quirky clothes myself. I would unleash these Pokemon on my opponent: Mega Medicham (my ace and the creature my palace was inspired from), Metagross, Gardevoir, Mr. Mime, Malamar, Oranguru.
Personality-wise, I don't think I'd be a very friendly gym leader. I'd try to fight the villainous team on my own terms, without the help of MC (and I'd fail because that's how story goes usually).

After being defeated, I guess I'd be the only jerk in Pokemon universe not to bestow a TM upon a player. i'd just offer some words of wisdom in a form of "You'll start losing the day you think you won" and that will surely make a player uncomfortable.

First and foremost, I would want to be challenging. I want to be as notorious as Whitney or Elesa (in Black & White, not BW2).

Secondly, I'll pick Fairy types. I was disappointed with how Valerie presented their strength in XY, so someone has to do the type some justice.

As a Gym Leader, I'd make myself the third or fourth obstacle a player would have to face. As a side job (have to earn income somehow, right?), I'd be a confectionery baker! Cakes, scones, breads, doughnuts, petits fours, cookies, sweet pastries-you name it! As a bonus, my treats can actually boost your Pokemon's friendship-because of that, it's pretty crowded by Trainers; so getting a battle with me won't be easy! My shop would have a pastel colored theme, too. I'd also sell delicacies from other regions like Big Malasadas, Lava Cookies, Old Gateau, etc.

In terms of plot impact, the player character would arrive in my city and head to the Gym...only to find themselves unable to challenge me due to a long line of challengers. The antagonistic team would then happen to steal my secret ingredient that I use to help Pokemon like their Trainers more, from my shop. Thus, the player character offers to help me get it back at the crime scene. After chasing them throughout the city, battling Grunts together, collecting other stolen ingredients, and emerging victorious, I allow the Trainer to cut ahead of everyone for a Gym Match. I also tell them that they essentially completed the Gym Challenge by helping me!

Regarding my Pokemon, my ace is a Sylveon! With her Hidden Ability I might add. Before her though, are my Eviolite-holding Togetic and Huge Power Azumarill. My Fairy types might appear frail, but we'll be sure to make you wail!

I will be a dragon-type gym leader
I will send the player on a mission to find my shelgon where he will encounter the evil team my shelgon fights instead of the player ,it evolves into salamence and it wins
I will maybe be the 7th and my team is consisted of:
-salamence (my ace that can mega evolve)
-kommo-o(equiped with it's signature z-crystal)
-noivern
And goodra and flygon wich I'm going to use only against the evil team grunts
After losing ,I'll give you an item that can evolve a new dragon-type pokemon

A Mega Salamence on the seventh Gym?

Yikes.

That said, I'd guess I'd be a Fire-type Gym Leader, just so I can use my favourite Pokémon (Arcanine).

Probably be the 8th Gym. The protag battles the boss of the evil team, who uses the Legendary, and you are about to be defeated. Then, my Arcanine swoops in, Flare Blitzing the boss' assault to an interruption, giving you the time to recover. I later join the scene, noticing your passion and witness you beating the boss.

Wanting to test your passion for Pokémon and battling against mine, I tell you to drop by the Gym and test yourself.

As far as the Gym interior goes, I'm honestly not sure how much I can do with the theme, since it wouldn't necessary be fire out of explosiveness, but more so fire because of passion and a fiery resolve.

My team would probably be:
  1. Arcanine (The absolute ace. Flare Blitz, Extremespeed, Wild Charge and Morning Sun/Close Combat, with Intimidate as ability.)
  2. Charizard (Mega Evolves into X. Dragon Dance, Flare Blitz, Earthquake and Roost/Dragon Claw.)
  3. Rotom-Heat (Volt Switch, Will-O-Wisp/HP Ice, Overheat and Pain Split/HP Ice)
  4. Chandelure (Shadow Ball, Energy Ball, Calm Mind, Flamethrower, ability: Flash Fire)
  5. Volcarona (Fiery Dance, Quiver Dance, Giga Drain and Bug Buzz)
  6. Blaziken (Blaze Kick, Swords Dance, High Jump Kick, Protect/Stone Edge, ability: Speed Boost.)
Man, making a Fire team that doesn't get bend over by Earthquake and Scald/Surf/Hydro Pump is hard...

That said, I'm not too much of a fan of being a Gym Leader since I like to use different typings, but I guess it's fun to think about it.

I'd go with Psychic since it's my favorite type. I'd be maybe 6th or 7th and have a team of 4 Pokémon:

Bronzong
Starmie
Delphox
Gardevoir

Maybe for a rematch team I'd let the Gardevoir mega-evolve, switch Bronzong for Metagross, and Throw in Gallade and Exeggutor for some type variety

Being a Gym Leader would be my dream Pokémon profession. There's just something very appealing about Gym Leaders imo. I would be a Water Type Gym Leader. My team would be:

Gyarados
Seadra
(with Eviolite)
Swampert
Kingdra
Samurott

My Gym would be located in Hoenn. It would be the 7th Gym. I say 7th rather than 8th, as I would rather be the "unexpectedly strongest" Gym Leader, rather than the "expectedly strongest" ;)

My Gym would work by pressing switches, that open and close different sections of the Gym. It would be a single room, but a fairly big one, with lots of sections. Of course, it would be water themed.

In theory, it's the same. In practice, it feels a bit different, I think.

I think it’s barely different in practice.

As for me, I’ll be probably a fire type Gym Leader from a distant region (probably Sinnoh). The 8th Gym leader, since it allows me to go all out and test the opponent to be worthy of the league.

My team will be:
Zoroark
Quilava/Typhlosion
Silvally-Fire
Infernape
Raichu

Raichu and Zoroark is a twist, a Gym leader having a Pokemon not of its specialisation type.

Raichu will be the first Pokemon I ever got and at tied for the highest level of my Gym with Infernape.
Zoroark is in the team because I as a Gym leader would be fond of mind games, and it’ll disguise itself as a fire type to put off the opponent.

My gym puzzle will first of all present three doors (Red, Blue, Yellow). The usual gym guide will inform the player that the red door’s the way to the Gym leader.

The reality is that the red door’s actually the wrong door. Each door has an elemental obstacle which will hinder the player.

The red door contains a quicksand maze. A flying type can be used to move quicker. It’s a dead end (duh!).

The yellow door (the second wrong one) has a hurricane which can be quicker to traverse if you’ve got a large Pokemon to protect you. It’s a dead end again.

The third door is actually the correct one, and contains a heat wave travelling around the gym. If you’re hit by the heat wave, the first Pokemon in your party is burnt.
You can either out-run the heat wave, or you can have a flying type’s gust redirect it to somewhere else.

Completing this maze gives you access to the Gym leader. (The mazes will be fairly simple since there’s three of them).
The gym guide telling the player to go to the wrong door is a ploy by me to play more mind games against the challenger. And if they’ve got presence of mind, they’ll use the Pokemon methods to cross the mazes easily.
—————-

I’ll be a story relevant Gym leader. Initially posing as one of the admins of the evil team (like Malva), but in the climax it actually turns out that I entered the ranks of the team to infiltrate them and ultimately help the player against them.

——

My rematch team:
  1. Chandelure
  2. Typhlosion
  3. Charizard (Mega evolves: X)
  4. Silvally Fire
  5. Infernape
  6. Raichu

I have equal love for Ghost, Fairy and Dark types, so I'm not entirely sure...
Perhaps my gym would be all dark and spooky with shady sections full of hidden trainers... and then the heel-turn is that I'm a Fairy leader. Or vice versa.

I would have a water type gym where the puzzle involves raising and lowering the water to create a path.

My team would be:
Greninja
Pellipper
Quagshire (sorry if I misspelled)
Mantine
Walrein
Crawdaunt

Ah, like Crasher Wake!

I would have a grass type gym, around the 5th in its region. I'd want it to look a little like the Malie Garden, a little oriental vibe, only indoors; little streams separated with a network of bridges, each one with a trainer battle. There would be 4 trainers with 2 Pokémon each before the gym leader, each battle going up one level. I also want to add in a gimmick from the Village Bridge in the Unova region. After each trainer is defeated, they add to the music inside the gym, one layer at a time.
There are some personal touches here, two of them know rock moves since it covers 4 out of 5 weaknesses of the grass type. Exeggutor would be shiny since it was my first ever shiny Pokémon, Victreebell has Cut since it was an HM slave on one of my first games, and Serperior has the Contrary ability, because why not.
The warm-ups:
  • Leafeon - Lv35 (Swords Dance, Leaf Blade, X-Scissor, Iron Tail)
  • Chesnaught - Lv35 (Spiky Shield, Seed Bomb, Brick Break, Rock Slide)
  • Victreebell - Lv36 (Toxic, Protect, Cut, Giga Drain)
  • Exeggutor (K) - Lv36 (Sleep Powder, Energy Ball, Psychic, Synthesis
  • Amoonguss - Lv37 (Toxic Spikes, Spore, Sludge Bomb, Sunny Day)
  • Roserade - Lv37 (Venoshock, Extrasensory, Shadow Ball, Solar Beam)
  • Cradily - Lv38 (Stone Edge, Power Whip, Earthquake, Stealth Rock)
  • Serperior - Lv38 (Leaf Storm, Dragon Tail, Hidden Power Fire, Giga Drain
The gym battle would be fought like the Battle Tree. 3v3 and no using the bag. My team would consist of:
  • Ludicolo @ Damp Rock - Lv41 (Rain Dance, Giga Drain, Scald, Ice Beam)
  • Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet - Lv41 (Thunder Wave, Swagger, Stealth Rock, Iron Head)
  • Venusaur @ Venusaurite - Lv43 (Sleep Powder, Swords Dance, Petal Blizzard, Earthquake)
The idea is to set up rain, then unless a fire type is on the field, switch to Ferrothorn and be as annoying as possible, with the rain covering its double weakness to fire. Ludicolo enters when it faints or to deal with Sunny Day users, then bring out the ace last.
After awarding victorious trainers their badge, they can choose a TM for a move of their choice, out of Swords Dance, Toxic, Energy Ball, Sunny Day, Solar Beam, Venoshock, Giga Drain, or Stealth Rock.
