"Your teamwork is bullshit," Raku commented, using the fallen boy as a human shield against their knives. Her feral grin reappeared, as she launched the boy at his comrades with one hand. Lunging forward, she effortlessly threw a roundhouse kick at one of the humans.

"Has there been anything of interest to you, Ojii-sama?" Amaterasu asked, now ignoring the other boys.

Shiranui continued drinking his tea for a moment speaking. "Tbere's a tree out in the garden that has been growing nicely."

--

It was true, Wren wouldn't be able to enjoy much of anything with a clouded head. "Just... my family. The mess they've caused... that I've caused. It's hard to see, sometimes, how I can keep... you know. Being me," to say it would've been hard for her to disclose these feelings if she wasn't hazy is beyond an understatement.

Amber leaned on one of the balconies of the hall, looking out at the same sights as Wren. She seemed to be rather deep in thought. And rightfully so, considering what had been on her mind.

--

The boy that was thrown was quickly hefted to the side by one, while the other found himself knocked back by her kick. He was knocked unconscious almost instantaneously, while the other armed assailants stood up. His eyebrow twitched before he drew forth a small pistol from his pocket, pointing it at Raku. "You dumb bitch! Who the fuck do you think you're messing with?!"

Three shots rang out from the gun, the unarmed male cowering on the ground at the sound. Of course, he had no idea that the gun would only be minimally effective.

Don thought about this, his mind going back to the events with the exorcists as well was what happened with her sister and Xavier. "It's not your fault," he stated. He kind of understood how Wren felt in this way, that the actions of her families as well as the actions she herself had done in the past might start to catch up on her. "What they did does not have anything to do with the you in this moment. You're a great person after all," he said as he looked at her. "What happened before was not your fault, at least I never thought you had anything to do with it."

"Hey," Ken greeted Amber as he saw her standing by a balcony. 'What's up? I thought you'd be enjoying the festivities."

"It does feel like we're starting to run out of time," Apollo pointed out, sighing. "I mean we're still well known by people all around the world, but we're mostly tale of legends rather than gods people believe in."

The shots tore into her, alright - but she looked as if she barely felt a thing. Her eye twitched, as she tackled him, holding the sharp edge of her jagged blade to his unguarded throat. "Was that supposed to hurt, bastard?" She asked in a biting tone, her fangs visibly clenched. "I've been shot a million times, but never by someone pathetic like you."

"Oh? I'd like to visit the garden sometime, I've missed it." She replied with a slight smile, her wolfish fangs slightly showing. She took another bite of her yakisoba thoughtfully.

"In all honesty, however, it was inevitable." Sehkmet stated bluntly, crossing her arms. "Nothing will last forever. What makes you think a mortal's faith is excluded from that principle of sustainability?"

Kari sighed as she looked up at the night sky, being deep in thought. She wasn't sure what to do, and her mind appeared to be troubled.

Ra nodded in agreement with Sehkmet. "Time degrades all things. However, I think we should address the primary reason why this has happened; the appearance of those energy beings. The Celestials and Infernals, as they call themselves."

Whether or not it was an actual reason was debatable, but it was clear that Ra did not approve of them.

Wren looked down for moment. "It's... not that simple. But thanks," she looked at Don for a moment. "What about you? Any demons following you around?" She didn't realize the irony of her words, considering she was speaking to an Infernal.

--

Uzume took a sip of sake. "The garden's coming along fine. Thanks to your truly, after all," the pride on her face was evident.

Kagotsuchi rolled his eyes, leaning on a hand as he stared at his younger sister. "How are the Americas? More importantly, how is living with Ms. Concordia?"

--

The firearm fell from his hand after the boy was tackled. He fell to the ground, writhing to try and get up. "Get off me, you bitch!!"

The one on the ground looked up, his eyes wide as he saw Raku's blade pointed toward his friend's neck. His voice was low for a second before he yelled. "Please! Stop! We'll leave, I promise - so please, just stop!!"

--

Oscar looked at Kari for a moment. "What's up?"

Marcus continued looking in the sky. "Stargazing must not be her thing, I guess. That, or you're boring the hell out of her."

"Oh, um, I'm just thinking about something is all," Kari replied simply, "Don't worry, I do enjoy stargazing. My mind decided to wander elsewhere it seems."

--------------------------------------------

"Josie, why do we have to see my mother?" Alexis pouted like a small child, "I don't think it will be good for me to try and talk with her. At this point, I don't want much else to do with her. She's a cold-hearted killer and a liar. What more is there?"

"Why should I? All of you fuckers intruded on my property, illegally, acting like you owned the damn place! So don't go telling me that I have no right to kill this bastard right here when you punks go trespassing in my fucking house!" She snarled, putting enough pressure on his jugular to draw blood, but not enough to cut any vital arteries. "You messed with the wrong member of the Matoi family.. And you know why? Because they're all dead, just like your little friend will be!" Raku looked beyond pissed off, her eye twitching.

"I wouldn't exactly attribute it to their appearance, Lord Ra.." Sehkmet muttered, casting her golden feline eye at the sun god.

"The Americas.. Oh boy." Amaterasu began with a sigh. "They eat way too much meat, and they wonder why obesity is a problem there.." She muttered the second part, before speaking up. "Miss Concordia is very kind. It was fun at the safehouse, with the exception of one particularly insufferable brat..." No one would probably realize it was Amber she was specifically talking about.

"I do have to agree," Hermes replied with a slight frown. 'Not to mention they've caused humanity to have even more trouble than usual, I mean there was always trouble back when we were in power but...well the level of things they do now is just outrageous if you ask me," he pointed out with a frown.

"Can we really say we were better though," Apollo sighed, not liking where the whole discussion was going. 'Some of us are venevolent, others have been real dicks...including myself," he laughed cheerfully.

***

"I actually have something like that in my mind," he replied, remembering how he first found out that he was an Infernal. "When I first discovered what I was I was...shocked, the first thing that came to my mind was comparing Infernals to demons and that made me feel like I was a monster...like I deserved to be killed," he said, speaking something that he had been pushing to the back of his mind as much as he could. "Even last month...there was a part of me that felt like I deserved it just for existing, and now aside from that I'm also worried about what happened between you and Xavier, that maybe if I wasn't her to begin with..."

Thor, Horus and Ares all looked at each other. They hadn't spoken yet during the meeting. Horus was the only one that was really respected for intellect among the wider community of deities. The other two were known more as brawling brutes (not an entirely unfounded opinion of course). Finally Horus spoke. "Regarding the Celestials and Infernals..." He said quietly. "There is hope regarding that." A pause. "There's what the mortals call a nephalem. It's the union of a Celestial and an Infernal. It shows that these beings have the potential to make peace. I met one tonight. The kid has a pure heart, that much I could see. Of course... his entire being is the definition of volatile. The duality of his blood is... compelling. It's just a shame that nearly all mortals want the kid dead." He sighed. "They can be so barbaric."

"Plus the kid is a really good drinker!" Thor added. Unhelpfully.

Odin looked at him and facepalmed. "Not helpful."

"As for what we are... we're just like them." Ares said with surprising grace. "Some of us are good, some of us are evil, just as Apollo said. I mean I'm the god of war. I kill, I conquer, it's what I do. Thor here is the god of thunder and conquest and battle. We fight, we drink, we brawl, we..."

"And yet each of us has also helped the mortals." Horus cut Ares off before he could ruin his good speech with something foolish. "In our own ways." He closed his eyes for a moment. "But the thing we've done the best is allowed them to have free will. That's something we simply have to continue. Even if it's so tempting to take more control, more initiative. It's up to them to make a better world. We can help of course... what we cannot do is conquer."

Xavier stepped outside for a smoke. He needed it, as he was rather annoyed with what had happened. After Don and Wren had pulled a runner, he had realized that he was going around simply dancing with every cute girl he saw. And then he realized what was happening, that the ambrosia had taken over.

At the same time, he also realized that part of his current promiscuity was due to spite. He had no idea what Rose's problem was but he was mad that she seemed to want nothing to do with him. Perhaps he had gauged it all wrong. He chuckled to himself. It seemed like he got along far better with Wren than he ever did Rose. And it would be funny to tell his mother he was dating a Celestial, she'd probably explode. Dad would love it. And yes, he reminded himself of the fact that he had tried to murder Wren in cold blood. And yet they had quickly gone back to being close friends. He felt like he could talk to her about far more than he could Rose. Xavier always seemed to set her off, for reasons he didn't understand.

A draw on his cigarette interrupted these thoughts. He knew it was impossible. Not that there wasn't a spark there on both sides, but because Don and Rose would slit his throat. Not without cause either. It would be a betrayal that he wouldn't forgive himself for. Even he had standards and sleeping with what was probably his best friend's current target of affection would be something that he would never allow himself to do. Even if it was oh so tempting.

"You guys do remember what happened to the last person you all put your hopes on right?" Apollo said as he turned towards Thor, Ares and Horus. "I thought that's why we said we'd try not to grab specific examples."

Ares smirked at this. "Who you put all your hopes on." He said, clearly giving his half-brother a hard time. "The last mortal I really kept an eye on was the greatest general who ever lived." He said with a smirk. "Hannibal. You remember him I'm sure. He certainly lived up to all of my expectations."

Horus sighed. "Hey we make mistakes sometimes. But the point is still clear. The Celestials and the Infernals. Some are good, some are bad. Some are good and do the occasional bad thing, some are bad and do the occasional good thing. Just like any other race of mortals."

"Sure he was...and now his name is associated with a fictional cannibal," Apollo replied, grinning cheerfully before turning towards Horus. "But yeah I agree with what Horus says overall."

Rose sighed as she saw a stage where the band had been playing earlier. Without thinking, she just walked over and looked at the mic. Before she realized it, she had started to sing. The song was "Begin Again" by Taylor Swift. She wasn't even sure why that song came to mind at first, but it soon dawned on her. Xavier. He was the one who made her believe that love actually existed. Even with all of the bull that the two went through, she knew that at the end of the day, she still loved him. While it was unfortunate that he wasn't in the room, she sang as if he was.

Took a deep breath in the mirror
He didn't like it when I wore high heels
But I do
Turn the lock and put my headphones on
He always said he didn't get this song
But I do, I do

Walked in expecting you'd be late
But you got here early and you stand and wave
I walk to you
You pull my chair out and help me in
And you don't know how nice that is
But I do

And you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did
I've been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

You said you never met one girl
Who had as many James Taylor records as you
But I do
We tell stories and you don't know why
I'm coming off a little shy
But I do

But you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did

I've been spending the last eight months
Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

And we walked down the block to my car and I almost brought him up
But you start to talk about the movies that your family watches
Every single Christmas and I want to talk about that
And for the first time what's past is past

'Cause you throw your head back laughing like a little kid
I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did
I've been spending the last eight months

Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end
But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again

"Now, now." Isis mused before lighting a cigarette. "Mortals are complex creatures. Humans for instance often go unaware of phenomenon that would only seem natural to you and I. To many mortals, we are only works of fiction or make believe that many regard as myth."

She let out a puff of smoke

"Still, the mortals that Concordia has granted asylum have proven to be quite... Entertaining." Isis thought aloud.

Horus smiled at his mother. She was always wise. "I agree with my mother there, we've slipped into myth and legend for most of the mortals. And that's really quite okay."

"Because it's a name that strikes fear into the hearts of many." Ares said with a grin. "And it's not like that Lecter fellow doesn't have good taste in wine. And murder. Truly a man after my own heart."

"He does have a pretty classic taste in music too now that I think about it," Apollo said while scratching his chin. "This is a conundrum."

"Hmph. Sure he is." Sehkmet retorted to Ares, but not before shooting a feline glare at Isis.

Kei sat back, watching the gods bicker with a slightly amused gleam in her single eye. She said nothing, the demigod's countenance ghosting a smile.

"Concordia..." A voice spoke, belonging to Baldur. "Honestly, that woman doesn't have the slightest idea what she's harboring in that home."

Ra raised an eyebrow. "Harboring?"

"A creature mixed with two of the most volatile beings on this plane, a fallen demigod abomination, a demon, and a Valkyrie," he responded.

Persephone tilted her head. "I believe the notion of these beings becoming a beacon of peace is naive," she was speaking to Thor, Horus, and Ares. "This Nephalem child - I don't doubt that the union of his parents was something inconceivable. But, the aspect of war and strife persists within the Celestial and Infernal bloodlines. Not one, not a hundred, of him will ever change that."
