Xavier was waiting for Don when his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he smiled. This would be entertaining. "Dad, how's the cooking going!" Xavier was clearly cheerful.
"Just started making the sauce, you know what I always say. The longer the process the better the meal." Xavier's father said with a smile. "Your mother is also very excited to meet the rest of your friends." Xavier could read between the lines, something that both father and son knew well. "Where are you now?"
"At the mall, doing Christmas shopping." Xavier explained.
"You haven't even started. Have you." Xavier chuckled at the question. His father was just as perceptive as his mother, something he forgot at times.
"Well I'm at the mall right now so technically I've started." Xavier retorted.
"Funny. You figure out what you're getting Rose for Christmas yet?" Xavier sighed at the question.
"She's almost as bad to shop for as I am." He muttered.
"What, she doesn't like jewelry?"
"Nope. No diamonds. And especially after the whole April episode..."
"Not your finest hour was it. I think you missed the 'don't get caught' lesson."
"Missed it, ignored it, didn't see it coming... the whole nine yards."
"More importantly, what is she getting you?"
"That new pair of Jordans. The ones I was gonna buy later today."
"Smart. I'm sure you passed that to her second hand."
"Of course." Xavier smiled.
"And the rest of the house, what are you doing for them?"
"No idea. I was going to get Wren something rather nice, you know as a 'sorry I tried to kill you that one time' thing... but that would only complicate things needlessly. Don's getting a whack across the head and flying lessons. And everyone else... I'll know it when I see it."
"You're the worst at this. Almost as bad as your mother."
"Tell me about it. She doesn't know about the fact that I'm back with Rose, does she?"
"I haven't told her. And if she has, she hasn't mentioned it to me."
"Good enough. Going to be hilarious."
"I can't technically endorse that."
"I know Dad, I know. You don't know anything. By the way, you need any wine for later? I can pick some up while I'm out."
"Wine no. I am out of bitters and vermouth for behind the bar though. You mind?"
"Nope, I'll take care of it. I might as well restock while I'm there."
When the shopping was all set and done, it was time for the dinner to start. Given ample time to prepare, all of those attending the dinner were teleported via a sigil to the front of the home.
Concordia had gone with them this time, leaving enough protection at the tenant home to prevent any major issues from occurring. She was dressed in a long-sleeved black dress with her signature jewelry around her neck. Her hair was tied back into a bun. "Such good weather out here."
Wren smiled a bit at Concordia's statement. It was nice seeing her outside with them. "You look great today, too," She said to Concordia. Wren was a gray blouse with a white undershirt and black jeans. The blouse was one of things she bought during their first excursion to the mall that she was able to securely get before the issue with the Paladins.
This time, however, she made no effort to cover up her tattoo on her cheek. "Makeup and a name change can't hide you Liruliniel."
Xavier was wearing a charcoal sport coat and vest with a crimson tie. He was grinning as the party arrived by the front door of the estate. The acres of grounds were behind them, rolling fields and trees that led to the water. The door opened.
Astra was wearing a shimmering black cocktail dress and her husband was wearing a dark grey suit. She smiled. "Hello all, its so nice to meet all of you." She beckoned them inside. "For those of you who don't know me I'm Xavier's mother."
"And I'm Dad." His dads greeting didn't have any of the over the top that his mothers did.
"I like your tattoo by the way," Don commented, still trying to keep his calm at being back at Xavier's house, mostly because every time had been there up till now was for training. Once Xavier's parents walked out he greeted them with a smile. 'It's nice to see you both again."
"It's nice to meet you both!" Ken said cheerfully, he was wearing a black jacket with pockets on the chest and a pair of black jeans, with a white shirt underneath the jacket.
Concordia smiled to the Celestial. "It's a pleasure to see you again, Mr. Caelestus," she said to Xavier's father. "I do hope that the tome I gave you is serving its purpose well enough."
Wren said nothing to Don about his comment, instead walking into the home behind Concordia, but stopped immediately before making a face. "This warding..." Of course Astra's home would be guarded to the brim against outside Celestial threats. Still, it made her stomach churn on how much force was being exerted down on her.
Wren shook her head, steeling herself as she stood up straight. It was an impressive testament to her willpower that she could continue doing so. "It's fine."
Astra and Xavier both laughed, rolling their eyes in unison. It was very clear who Xavier got his strong eyeroll game from. "Okay Grapes okay." Astra said with a smile. "She knows I like her now."
Xavier raised an eyebrow.
"Anyone who can take everything from a Nephalem and come out kicking... Deserves my respect." Astra explained.
Rose wore a knee-length black dress. It was the same one she wore when she cooked for Xavier the first time. This whole situation was awkward in of itself, so she chose to remain quiet unless she was spoken to. She also knew Kari wasn't acting right, and decided to keep her focus on her.
Kari wore a black skirt and a teal blouse with a necklace with red gems placed upon it. She had her hair put in low, shoulder resting ponytail while Rose kept hers up. The two just stayed close to one another and made sure to make this as easy as possible.
Kei was absently observing the house, her singular turquoise gaze remaining on Astra for a moment before shifting over to Wren. Still, she said nothing, which was abnormal for the demigod, in the least.
Raku similarly, had been quiet, but for different reasons altogether. She had on a black dress shirt and (untorn) jeans, complete with crimson suspenders and a bowtie of the same hue. Her hair wasn't nearly as messy as it usually would've been, but the streak of red was quite noticeable. She had her sleeves rolled up,hands in her pockets.
Astra led the group into the massive dining room. The massive table and ornate furnishings had clearly cost a small fortune.
Xavier's father returned, making a beeline for Rose. He leaned in and whispered in her ear. "I was glad to hear that my son got his head out of his ass and managed to get you to take him back. No matter what my wife thinks... I'm glad you're his. You're definitely his better half, remember that."
Astra and Xavier were smiling, the massive trays of every appetizer imaginable sat waiting. Truly it had been quite the cooking effort. "Eat up everyone!" Astra announced with a bright smile.
