In a special release for Pokémon Day, catch Journey's Prequels, Journey's Traces by iyowa, the latest song from Project VOLTAGE, today at 6:30pm (JST)

Project VOLTAGE, the special art and music collaboration project between Pokémon and the popular Volcaloid character Hatsune Miku, is releasing a new song in celebration of Pokémon Day, Journey's Prequels, Journey's Traces (たびのまえ、たびのあと, Tabi no Mae, Tabi no Ato). The music video for this song is set to be released on the official YouTube channel of iyowa (いよわ) today, Tuesday February 27th, at 6:30pm (JST) / 9:30am (UTC) / 1:30am (PST).

iyowa (いよわ) made their debut as a Vocaloid producer as a high schooler in 2018, with the song Weather of the End ( 終末のお天気, Shuumatsu no Otenki), featuring the Vocaloid flower. iyowa got their first start in digital music creation when they were in only the third grade, with the Nintendo DS software Daigasso! Band Brothers DX, released internationally as Jam with the Band. Their songs are known for their use of crammed singing, variable speed, high-pitched tones, and abrupt modulations. Their biggest hit internationally is Kyu-kurarin (きゅうくらりん), featuring the Vocaloid Kafu, which has racked up more than 52 million views on YouTube since its release in August 2021. Other notable works from this producer actually featuring Hatsune Miku include 2019's IMAWANOKIWA, and 2023's The Peachy Key (ももいろの鍵, Momoiro no Kagi).

Project Voltage's latest batch of songs commenced last week with the release on Friday of PARTY ROCK ENERNITY feat. Hatsune Miku by Hachioji P (八王子P), a tribute to Team Rocket's in-game theme music.

Hachioji P (八王子P), also known as 8#Prince, is an electropop producer and DJ who made their debut as a Vocaloid producer in 2009 with the song Electric Love (エレクトリック・ラブ), which was featured in the internationally released Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai Deluxe on the Nintendo 3DS. Notable works from this artist include 2016's Whimsical Merci (気まぐれメルシィ- Kimagure merushiii), and Gimme×Gimme, their 2019 collaboration with fellow Project Voltage contributor Giga. Outside of Vocaloid, Hachioji P has produced songs for a number of other Japanese artists, including the 2012 chart topping single The Shining Ones (ヒカルものたち, Hikaru Monotachi) from then AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe. Hachioji P's younger sister is also active as a Vocaloid producer, working under the alias q*Left.

This Friday will see another song released for Project Voltage, coming from Nayutan Seijin (ナユタン星人), also known as NayutalieN. Having made their debut as a Vocaloid producer in 2015 with Andromeda Andromeda and best known for the song Alien Alien, this producer has released many space and science themed songs. The Andromedako character which features in many of their music videos was adapted to a manga series Medako-san's Love Invasion Plan (メダ子さんの恋スル侵略計画, Medako-san no Koisuru Shinryaku Keikaku), which was published in Shonen Magazine Pocket from September 2016 to October 2017. Outside of Vocaloid, they have produced songs for several anime and games, including Turing Love feat.Sou (under the name of “Nayuta Seiji”), the ending theme for "Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove it", and the opening theme for Yokai Watch 4++.

Just two days later on Sunday March 3rd, Project Vocaloid will follow up with yet another song, this time coming from Kairiki Bear (かいりきベア), a guitarist and songwriter who made their debut as a Vocaloid producer in 2011. Their name was inspired by the enemy of the same name that appears in the popular Nintendo game Earthbound. Best known for songs such as Alkali Underachiever (アルカリレットウセイ, Alkali Rettousei) and Darling Dance (ダーリンダンス, Daarin Dansu), this Project VOLTAGE song will only be the third Vocaloid song from Kairiki Bear since they retired from active Vocaloid work in late 2022 due to demotivation.

The final planned song from this project will release late next week, on Saturday March 9th. The Vocaloid producer contributing this song has not yet been announced.

Project VOLTAGE's first sub-project, "18 Types of Hatsune Miku and Partner Pokémon Illustrations and Settings" (18タイプの初音ミク＆相棒ポケモンのイラスト・設定資料) featured a set of 18 artworks from 6 separate artists based on the theme of "What if Hatsune Miku was an XX-type Pokémon Trainer". This project completed on September 28th, 2023, with the posting of the Dragon-type Hatsune Miku with her partner Pokémon Miraidon, however the past months have seen an additional range of additional bonus illustrations also being released.
