I loathe Z-moves because I think their names are painfully cheesy. I hate the names of specials and stat boosting moves in Pokemon Masters for the same reason, but this one got an actual chuckle out of me.

13. Miscellaneous thoughts about Pokemon, part 2
  • I thought that Castform should get a sandstorm form someday, it's the only weather condition (iirc) that it doesn't have a form for. Casform's forms are said to be dependent on temperature and humidity, and I suppose that might be why it never got one. I'm no expert on sandstorms, but it has the least to do with water? (Sunny = vapor, rain = liquid, hail = ice)
  • More Rotoms too, pleaae.
  • I kind of want an option to change the clothes of npc's, not just the protagonist. Like not each piece of clothing, but just being able to select whole other outfits, such as picking between HGSS Brock vs FRLG Brock. Of course, I'm expecting different types of outfits, not just ones that have been seen in-game before, like Koga in a t-shirt and shorts or something.
  • Pokemon Trozei was fun. I was really bad at it as a child, but I liked the puzzles and the aesthetic of the game. I lost the DS cartridge for it many years ago, unfortunately, so I can't play it again.
  • My hopes for SwSh are simple:
    • Oddish is in it (confirmed, thankfully)
    • We get new Steel and Fire gyms. We've had no Steel gym since DPPt, and no Fire gym since RSE/ORAS (which is still ~gen 3 since ORAS isn't really coming up with anything new?) Chili doesn't really count, and there's Kiawe in Alola as a trial leader, but I don't really consider them full equivalents to gyms.
    • Dolphin
  • The map art for the series looks really good. I have a couple of posters hanging up from when I got AS and Let's Go, and Hoenn and Kanto look fabulous, albeit a bit too perfectly... square? Straight?
  • My favorite battle facility is the battle factory because I have no patience to actually raise my own Pokemon to be good enough to actually beat the others. I've beaten both Noland and Thorton at least a couple of times (21-streak only though). I also like the battle arcade and the battle castle from the gen 4 battle frontier.
Not much else to say here.

14. For some reason my phone doesn't let me post images in my status posts so:

There he is in all his glory.

I'm struggling to find myself some free time these days. I'd like to set up an art thread (and make actual art) sometime soon, but I have no time to compile any of my work. It's a shame.

Regarding Sword and Shield, I'm really happy that it seems Rolycoly has at least a second stage evolution. I just hope it doesn't evolve by trade like Graveler or Boldore do; I will be so sad if that's the case.

15. Reference list
This is now an opinions and headcanon blog because I feel like it.

This is my favorite and least favorite pokemon by type. For self-reference, mostly.

My reasons are petty because i'm not writing paragraphs for all 36 of them

Normal: Staraptor
  • Best regional bird. In gen 4 I usually just have one start close combatting things to death around gym 6/iron island because I can. I had a level 100 one in my first Diamond playthrough. Its name was STARAPTOR because small me decided not to use nicknames for whatever reason.
Fire: Chandelure
  • It's pretty.
Water: Wooper
  • It's cute. Not too keen on Quagsire, though
Electric: Magnezone
  • It looks cool. It's probably the closest thing to a UFO Pokemon we have (maybe?) and that's cool.
Grass: Oddish
  • some other post said:
My first level 100 Pokemon was a Vileplume named Nerdone in Pokemon Sapphire. I taught it Cut, Return, Double-Edge, and Petal Dance since I was a clueless seven year old. I also had a tendency of catching every Oddish and Gloom I saw in the game, and I named them all Nerdone too. Each Nerdone had a letter or number after it so that I could tell each Nerdone apart.
Ice: Froslass
  • It's pretty
Poison: Swalot.
  • It's cute. Gulpin is cute.
Ground: Dugtrio
  • Alolan Dugtrio is stupid-looking, but it's a likeable stupid-looking to me.
Flying: Drifloon
  • some other post said:
Its design is so simple and round, I just love it. It's been a main player for me in many playthroughs of Diamond, and in Black 2.
Bug: Scizor
  • It's cool-looking. It's also the signature Pokemon of my favorite character, so that's neat.
Psychic: Metagross
  • It's cool-looking. I also lile Steven, so there's that.
Rock: Barbaracle
  • some other post said:
An unexpected favorite of mine. I didn't even catch my own Binacle until after the post-game of X, but I ended up really loving it. Its dex entry said that if one Binacle got angry at the other, it'd just leave to go to a different rock, and for some reason I find that really cute. It's also really ugly-cute, in my eyes. They're adorable in Pokemon-Amie. Barbaracle is awesome because it's just a bunch of barnacles and rocks mixed up to make a hand monster, which is a neat take on the multi-headed Pokemon.
Ghost: Mismagius
  • I had a level 100 one in SoulSilver. Its name was Purply.
Dragon: Hydreigon
  • It's cool-looking. Sucks that it's a lategame Unova mon with high evolution levels.
Dark: Drapion
  • Not actually a bug, don't know why I like this, but I do
Steel: Aegislash
  • It has a fun gimmick and a neat type combo. Wikstrom is cool too because he's a knight with a sword and shield Pokemon. Put him in SwSh please.
Fairy: Mimikyu
  • It's cute. It's also pretty good in battle.
Fighting: Gallade
  • It's cool-looking.

Normal: Watchog
  • It look rabid or insane or something with those eyes. It's ugly.
Fire: Heatmor
  • It's ugly
Water: Bruxish
  • It's really ugly
Electric: Thundurus
  • some other post said:
They're ugly and a bit too palette-swappy for me. The Therian forms are a lot better, but I don't see why they couldn't have looked like that from the start
Grass: Bellossom
  • some other post said:
Oddish, Gloom, and Vileplume look like they belong in the same evolution chain. They're blue. Oddish has leafs, Gloom had dead leafs and a bud, Vileplume has a full flower. Bellossom makes less sense to me. It has a skirt now. It has two head flowers. It's green. It's not Poison-type anymore. Like why? Especially that last part, give me back my poison STAB. Gamefreak could have maybe redeemed it a bit in my eyes by making it part Fairy or something but nooooooooo. It was also the only excuse for Oddish to be in Alola, and it didn't get in anyway. It's a hula dancer, for crying out loud. Or wait, it was in the game: as an overworld Bellossom in a hotel with no purpose other than to rub it in the faces of people like me. Oddish and any other of its evos didn't in either, why is it there at all?
Ice: Lapras
Poison: Skuntank
  • See above but replace lorelei with jupiter(?)
Ground: Landorus
  • See thundurus
Flying: Tornadus
  • See thundurus
Bug: Buzzwole
  • It's ugly
Psychic: Sigilyph
  • It's ugly
Rock: Carracosta
  • All the other fossils look like dinosaurs or extinct things. Carracosta is too, but it just looks too much like a normal sea turtle to me. It also had the same type combo as the Gen 1 fossils and I'm just sad we didn't get something else.
Ghost: Dhelmise
  • I like all the ghosts, but I kind of forgot this one existed, so...
Dragon: Druddigon
  • Not too keen on its design, but I don't think it's ugly.
Dark: Mandibuzz
  • I am afraid of birds in real life and this is the scariest bird.
Steel: Forretress
  • I also like all steel types too. Forretress just has kind of a bland design. I always imagine it as wearing glasses for some reason.
Fairy: Primarina
  • Turns out I also like most of the fairies? Primarina is last based on elimination, but I have nothing against it.
Fighting: Conkeldurr
  • Ugly + trade evo = no for me...

I'm glad that your reason for Mandibuzz being your least favourite Dark type is only because it's scary!

I am also a fan of Drapion. I love Acupressure Drapion.

Apparently, my last post on this forum before today was a post on some thread in 2015. Well, I'm back for now, I guess. Time to make a blog again.

-------
I tend to space out a lot and laugh at my own thoughts and daydreams. Everyone I know thinks it's weird, but I think it's a cheap way of entertaining myself without spending any of my tuition money on actual things like games or movies. I figured it would be worth a shot to just let out some of these things and see what other people think about them, or if they have some other weird ideas they'd like to share.

Alternatively, I just post opinions about some things. Whatever is on my mind, I don't care.

A good chunk of these thoughts are Pokémon-related, hence why I'm posting them here. I really don't think they warrant the creation of actual threads in any way, so I'll put them in this post. I'm certain the length of each thing will be different too, so anyone that happens to be reading should not expect consistency or top tier writing. Don't expect things to make sense either, I tend to be redundant and non-concise at times.

Anyway,

01. AU where all the pokemon aren't real and they're just people in really bad cosplay fighting each other

Like imagine Red, and he's in Pallet Town picking his starter and Professor Oak leads him to a table with a cabbage, a lighter and a water pistol. Nobody acknowledges that this is a cabbage, a lighter, and a water pistol, because they are obviously just the starters everyone knows and loves. So Red picks Bulbasaur and takes the cabbage with him, and Blue takes the lighter. The ensuing rival fight is just Blue in an orange jumpsuit trying to burn Red, who has a cabbage strapped to his back. Some random scientist or something cheers them on like "woo yeah you go charmander".

I'd think that the remaining adventure would go on similarly, with gymleader battles being something like

-Brock with a chain of rocks dragging behind him that he tries to hit people with, but he can't because it's too heavy to lift
-Misty but she's in a star costume and just spins around and around and yells "hyah" while trying to squirt Red with a water gun
-Lt. Surge dressed as a cute mouse with a car battery he tries to shock you with or something
-Erika just makes your allergies feel bad
-Sabrina, who is just regular Sabrina but she has 2 spoons and a mustache

etc.

Some other fights quickly off the top of my head:

-Bugsy dual wielding scythes
-Whitney doing continuous forward rolls while dressed as a cow
-Every fighting type specialist just punching the kids that challenge them

As if this is a thing that just regularly happens.

It's because the further I think about this, the crazier and/or stupider the fights get, which is why this stuff becomes amusing to me.

I need sleep
all i need in life lol

I'm glad that your reason for Mandibuzz being your least favourite Dark type is only because it's scary!
If there are two things that creep me out the most, it's birds and dead bodies. To me, vultures are a terrifying combination of both.

all i need in life lol
Maybe I'll attempt to actually draw this sometime.
I still need to draw this...

16. art

Here's a Mothloom:

125726

i can't find a way to remove transparency in paint, sue me. edit: it looks blurry to me when uploaded too

I've been looking at some of the images I've uploaded on a desktop for the first time since I'm usually on mobile. My phone takes images at way higher resolution than I need, and the end results are usually too big for this forum to handle. So to actually upload an image, I need to take a picture of my doodles from like 2-3 feet back, then crop the actual picture down to the resolution I can use to upload correctly. And the lowest resolution on my phone is still very large. It's very tedious. Maybe using an image hosting site would help? I don't really want to use one, though...

On mobile, I also can't resize anything for whatever reason, so my doodles (which are actually real tiny irl, like not even a quarter of a standard loose sheet of paper. that stupid pekchue from two posts ago is literally in the very corner of a notebook) get inflated to very large sizes, resulting in absolutely stunning potato shots.

As an aside, my profile pic looks okay. I was worried it would look bad, but it's just fine. I'm also kind of happy my posts in this blog aren't massive walls of text like my phone kind of made them look. Except for the character ranking and that one post I deleted. Those were way tooo long, and way too tedious to write since I wrote them on a phone.

17. Customization

Imagine Furfrou trims, applied to several other Pokemon.

I think it'd be a cute way to individualize your party members. Like changing colors of flowers on some grass-types, trimming and styling fur (like Furfrou w/o the stat changes). Depending on the Pokemon species, they'd get unique styling methods as well. For a few specific examples:
  • Voltorb and Electrode could be customized to match any Pokeball the player owns,
  • Some Pokemon who wear "clothes", like Jynx, Machoke/Machamp, Hitmonchan, etc., can select between a few different outfits,
  • Mimikyu could get different disguise
  • Probopass, Kricketune, with different "mustaches"
For some Pokemon who seem less customizeable than others, maybe you can give them cute accessories instead. Sort of like the Pikachus with hats in Pokemon Go.

125936

Idk how big this looks on an actual computer, sorry if it's too big. It looks very large to me at least.
edit: it was pretty big

And I've mentioned this before, but I'd also like important NPCs to have different selectable outfits as well, just for fun.

18. Misc. Thoughts about Pokemon III
  • So I learned a thing yesterday: Seel is only water-type, not ice or anything else. Like what the hell, I caught dozens of these things in Pokemon Go and I've never noticed? Heck, I've been playong since RS, and I haven't noticed at all? I mean, I've also never actually used a Seel, so...
  • Another Sinnoh geography fact I also missed somehow was that Iron Island is like right near the ironworks if you look at the map, and I thought it was in the middle of the ocean somewhere for some reason. What's the point of the Ironworks anyway? It has like 2 trainers in it and iirc, you can exchange star shards or something, but as a side dungeon it's so uninteresting.
  • If the Pokemon world was a 1:1 copy of the real world in terms of size, then Sinnoh would be home to a massive capture-the-flag arena the size of Hokkaido, and that amuses me. Some other things would be a bit weird too, like the player walking across the entirety of France in like 3 days.
  • Also thought Snowpoint was on the top of a mountain, but clearly not, given the presence of a boat and the ocean.
  • Decided to start drawing some halloween art for the monthly art prompt here in digital form. Then I realized I only have Paint. I decided to do it anyway, and I'm like maybe 25% in and I just realized I could have just downloaded gimp or something. But I've gone too far and I can't turn back now.
  • Polteageist is ok. It's weird since I'm usually more than ok with ghosts. But I can't bring myself to think it's anything other than ok.
  • My SwSh team is probably going to be
  • Sobble
  • Rolycoly
  • Galarian Weezing
  • Oddish
  • Ghost type
  • Grass type
  • In every game since BW, my teams have always had several Ghost and Grass types on them. I'm not one for type balance, obviously. They're my favorite types.

19: Opinions on Gen 8 pokemon so far
Maybe I'll update it.

Pokemon
Grookey - Meh
Scorbunny - It's cute, but I'm not looking forward to its evolution. I am generally not a fan of bipedal humanlike animal designs or sports, and leaks say its evo becomes both
Sobble - Spy theme sounds super cool. I want more ghost or psychic starters.
Corviknight - It's cool.
Gossifleur / Eldegoss - Jumpluff is a cuter dandelion tbh. This one is still pretty cute though. But I don't think it's interesting enough to use on my main team.
Wooloo - It's a sheep. That's it.
Drednaw - Probably my least favorite so far. Oh boy another rock/water turtle, would you look at that. I thought it would be a fossil when I first saw it, tbh.
Yamper - Meh
Impidimp - Odd. Its legs are so thin. People want a gargoyle thing for it's evolution, and I agree that would be cool.
Rolycoly - My favorite thus far. I demand a coal train. It's a weird uglycute thing, and I like those.
Alcremie - Ehhhhh, I like its Gigantamax form a bit better. Does it change flavor too? Or does it become all the flavors at once?
Duraludon - I have no idea why, but it reminds me of a stapler.
Morpeko - Meh. Pikaclone, but with a gimmick this time.
Obstagoon - Its pre-evo looks good. Obstagoon itself doesn't. Again, not a fan of bipedal humanoid animal designs.
Cramorant - Ok but what about the fish? It has a mustache. I want to learn more about the fish, I don't like the bird as much.
Polteageist - As someone who adores almost all ghosts, I am surprised I find this one so uninteresting...
Sirfetch'd - Farfetch'd finally got some attention for once, great! But Sirfetch's design is so boring, why is it fully white?
Zacian/Zamazenta - i don't care about them at all.
Galarian Ponyta - Too cutesy girly for me tbh. Pegasus Rapidash better exist though.

People
Magnolia - ok
Sonia - ok
Hop - Canon starter needs to be scorbunny. Definitely.
Bede - He looks like a snooty asshole. I like it.
Marnie - best girl
Milo - One of the weirder character designs in a while, definitely. Weirdly cute, but also not.
Nessa - She seems cool
Allister - best boy
Bea - meh
Leon - I am not a fan, honestly. His design seems a bit... messy?

20. Minor thoughts about cameos

Midterms are over, time for me to write something...

An relatively minor wish I have for SwSh and future games is to include a lot more cameos of characters from past entries in the series. This isn't an unusual idea at all, and we've already had many before, such as Cynthia in BW, Steven in HGSS, Grimsley in Gen 7 and Mina in LGPE, among several others.

But what I want to see most is a lot more timeskip designs. I'm an absolute sucker for those kinds of "where are they now" scenes in fiction, so I'd really love to see what happened to some of the characters after the events of their games. Especially for gens 1-4, since we can probably assume almost a decade has passed since the Kanto games. Grimsley and Mina got pretty heavy redesigns in gen 7/LGPE, and that was the coolest thing to me. I understand some characters, like Oak/Cynthia/Steven/someothericoniccharacter probably won't get too heavy of a change, but it would be nice to see. At the very least, it'd help add a sense of time flow to the games. It's a bit strange that Red and Blue aged so much in SwSh, and you have the rest of the characters in the Battle Tree + Colress + Looker who look the same as they did in their own debut games.

Ngl, I really wanted a PWT in SwSh, just so there would be an excuse to catch up on what all the characters were up to and see what they look like if any of them got redesigns. I doubt they'd actually make redesigns for all of them, because there is a lot of gym leaders/elites/etc in the series. Dexit exists now, so any PWT chances are probably dead unless everybody's signature 'mon makes it in by some miracle. But that's why I'm still putting up with the shitshow that Pokemon Masters is rn.

Another thing I would be interested in seeing is more appearances similar to Caitlin being in gen 5; that is, a former character from a past game taking up an appearance as a mainline boss of the next. As an example, maybe a gym leader from Johto decided to move to a new region to be an Elite 4 member gym leader there instead?

I played through a romhack a few months ago that did something like this, and thought it was a nice idea. But I bet if GF tried this while this whole dexit thing was going on, people would just be like "hOw uNoRiGiNal, GamE FrEaK's tOo laZy to evEn MaKe nEw cHaRaCtErS!!1!" , as they would.

As for characters I'd like to see... literally any unpopular ones. I do love Cynthia, Steven, Looker and whoever else is a frequent sight in Pokemon games, but seeing the more obscure ones again always makes me happy. Especially if we get to learn more about some neglected characters. i mean a lot of characters I love are also really unpopular, so that's one reason for that too (•× • '')

The gen 7 cameos including Anabel and also Burnet from the Dream Radar 3DS app, of all things, makes me hopeful that GF is looking to a lot of new (by which I mean old) places for characters to include in the main series.

Now that you mention Burnet, I guess I would be happy if they brought people from the spin-offs, like Lunick/Solana from Ranger, Todd from Snapp or maybe (with an artstyle change, of course) Lucy from Trozei. The only ones I think have zero chance of happening are Mystery Dungeon characters (for obvious reasons) and Conquest ones (since those characters belong to Tecmo-Koei).

21. Actual SWSH spoilers

Alright, so:
  • Towns are aesthetically pleasing, but very shallow. Motostoke and Hammerlocke are my favorites, by far. Spikemuth is probably my least favorite in the series, period.
  • Hop and Leon can just... go away. Forever, preferably. They pop up everywhere and I hate it. They're both so uninteresting to me. I kind of wish Leon was a sham just like people first speculated when he was revealed, but nahhh. His design is kind of ugly too, imo. His color palette doesn't work well for me.
  • Gym leaders have lots pf personality, but the game doesn't do anything so showcase them outside of gym battles, and it feels like a waste. Not like other gymleaders were that great either in older games, but this group feels like they have the most lost potential given how they're so expressive. Like why isn't Melony mentioned in Sword, like at all? It's mentioned that Nessa sees Milo as a rival, but you don't see it when the two are in Motostoke or anything. Piers """singing""" was also kind of sad. It's like he's lip syncing without the music. It feels off.
  • But Opal is a treasure and is definitively best girl of gen 8. 100%.
  • Pokemon are ok, some I like, some I don't, as usual. Rolycoly, Snom and Falinks are my favorites
  • Wild area is also kind of bland. I wish it had more biomes.
  • What about the minor league?
  • Customization is lovely. I like the facial customization and hair customization, althout it seems guys got shafted again in regards to that, in comparison to girls. I admit I liked the clothes from X and Y a tad bit more, but SWSH had some nice choices, especially compared to Sun and Moon. Restricting colors to different versions was a baffling decision, and I am grateful it was reversed.
  • Why is gigantamax restricted to specific raid Pokemon? I don't want to catch a replacement Pokemon for a party member just so I can get my giant volcano monster thing.
  • I liked Bede, but he just disappears after gym 6 for a while. Marnie only became relevant when heading to Spikemuth (at least to me) and she felt irrelevant in the first half of the game.
  • Team Yell is literally wearing the Spikemuth gym logo on their clothes, and nobody anywhere questions it? This bothers me far more than it should.
  • Perma exp share is stupid, and the justification that GF gave for leaving it on and party-wide is just mind-numbingly stupid. That being said, I only caught new Pokemon I saw and didn't fight any wild Pokemon, and I didn't end up overleveled. The game wasn't too horribly easy like X and Y.
I still somehow like this more than gen 7. Bless James Turner and his lovely art direction.

22. Family?

Alright, so (very minor SwSh spoiler) Melony and Gordie are mother and son. Neato, there's our gym leader family of this generation. But what I find particularly interesting is that Melony is shown in some concept art to also have 4 (or 3?) other younger children aside from Gordie, and it makes me wonder about other characters' families are like, and if some of them have other siblings we don't hear of. Like yeah, Janine is Koga's daughter, but it never really occurred to me that she might have other siblings that are being trained by her father or something. Nor the fact that that characters like Lt. Surge/Fantina/Clay/whoever could be married with kids.

(also Milo also has a younger brother, too. That is also cool.)

I know seeing family members of characters is fairly common, but I've never actually bothered to imagine what their entire family would be like. We only ever see 2-3 characters related to each other in the games at a time, so..

I'm not asking for them to include the entirety of the Oak family in the games ot anything, it's just a thought that I had that is useful in generating a bunch of headcanons. It amuses me. Maybe I'll make a list of what I come up with sometime.

To start, I like to think that Brock has all his siblings just like in the anime, and that Misty also still has her three sisters in the game universe, too. I've mentioned it in the headcanon thread before. Dunno about anyone else yet.

23. Fusion

Ok but what if we merged the arcto and draco bodies together, and the zolt and vish heads together?

We get some cursed abomination that is only head, and another that is only leg.

pls include in gen 9 game freak, thanks

24. The answer is that it is a video game and things don't need to make sense
I'm trying to think about how one would even come up with the idea for a pokéball in the first place?

So somebody had to make some kind of machine to put into the pokeball to do the whole storage thing, right? There is no way somebody would have been deliberately trying to stuff some kind of contraption into a fruit for the sole purpose of trapping a rat in it, right? What would the first prototype even be based on? And how was it like when they first realized they could store pokemon inside? Was it accidental? Did they flip out at how their mouse suddenly disappeared into their weird contraption thing? How did they know to get the Pokemon out?

People talk about apricorn balls like they're some ancient secret technique only few artisans are aware of, but those things needed to have the machinery needed to store and capture the pokemon in them, right? So they can't be a very old invention because there would still need to be that one technological element to them. They're just pokeballs with a fruity outside, they're not that fancy at all  .

I feel as though PCs existing before pokeballs makes a bit more sense, since you can just come up with the excuse that people invented them as a way to store items, before finding out on accident that it can also store pokemon. But i'm certain that interferes with the canon timeline, since iirc, the PC storage something was something Bill came up with (I could be wrong though, too lazy to google it).

Also unrelated, Bill invented a machine to turn someone into a Pokemon, how was that not a bigger deal than it was? It was relevant for the sole purpose of getting a boat ticket and then it's never brought up for any other important reason.

25. What do you mean I forgot I had a blog?

For my own reference, I'd like to express my opinions on the main series, because lord knows I don't do this enough. My favorite games list is an ever-Changing mess.

Kanto games
  • Boring, I guess? If I don't want to spend a whole month playing through a game, I'd choose RBY/FRLG because the game's basically: fight gyms, beat blue, the end
  • The Pokemon are kind of overhyped but I can see why, tbh. I don't see anything wrong with keeping a few recognizeable faces around across the whole series.
Johto games
  • Level curve is wack
  • Pokedex is forgettable at best
  • Outshined by Kanto in every manner, except in map design, apparently. Why is the post-game just gyms?
  • HGSS is my favorite games for reasons I admittedly cannot think of right now, and I don't want to change that.
Hoenn games
  • Team Magma and Aqua's goals are just kind of dumb
  • RSE's second half is painful to go through, imo. I don't like surfing or diving all that much, and my most awful memories as a child were when I was trying (unsuccessfully) to navigate the route between Pacifidlog and Slateport to unlock the Regis. Seeing the Braille in the cave freaked me out so hard that I was so scared of Braille for a solid year.
  • The region's diverse, and that's nice
  • I like the regional Pokedex here
  • Is it wrong if I thought Aster was Zinnia's actual human daughter until like a year ago?
Sinnoh games
  • Pokedex is god-awful. The fact that it had two fire types and a fire-type elite 4 member is laughable. Babies were super unnecessary. Lacking new evolutions behind the national dex is one of the more baffling choices I've ever seen the devs do in this franchise.
  • Sudden diffuculty spike at the elite 4 feels cheap? The rest of the game is fine, and then it just...
  • Marsh and snow can go away forever. Who even approved of that? It contributes nothing to the game except to annoy the player.
  • I can dig stuff, and that's neat
  • The entire region feels comfy, and that makes me feel comfy. Cold places > Hot places
Unova games
  • I like 1/3 of the Unova Pokemon, and absolutely despise the rest. There is no in-between. BW playthrough all go the same for me since there's always a handful of Pokemon I can used that I like. There's probably a second handful of Pokemon I'd like to use, but are available so late in the game or evolve at such laughably high levels that it turns me off from
  • Stuff like join avenue, Pokestar studios, PWT, are all peak side content and they are fun
  • Solid meh on everything else
X + Y
  • Fantastic Pokedex, and the best new pokemon introduced, imo
  • Difficulty is... questionable
  • Best clothes options...?
  • Megas are the least weird battle gimmick in my eyes.
Alola games
  • Maybe it's because everything is organized into a bunch of small islands, but this region feels small.
  • Z moves are cheesy. I have probably used them once, ever.
SwSh
  • "ok guys, what about we put megas in the game but we make 'em biiiiiiiig"
  • ngl, dynamax isn't actually as bad as a boss gimmick, it probably could make for some interesting boss fights if only they made it last longer than three turns. Extra buffs would be nice. It's extremely anticlimactic when your pet lizard fingerguns a massive hulking lava monster to death. smh Gordie's Shuckle was harder to take down than that thing
  • Galar is gorgeous
  • It's more balanced around the Exp share than USUM, I think?

...I admit I may be having trouble coming up with things I like rather than things I hate .

I really do like this franchise, I swear.

26. Development
Sorry, I was thinking of something and had to note it down. Mostly rambling and headcanon, I apologize if I'm indecipherable.
  • So there is undoubtedly a lack of transport-related infrastructure in the Pokemon world, right? Like yeah, there are boats, cars and bikes, but compared to the real world, there aren't much. People are still clearly reliant on Pokemon for transport, and the players is walking on foot for basically every game in the main series.
  • The lack of transport mechanisms is not a result of a lack of technology; the Pokemon world has been clearly shown to have tech that is on par or better than what we have. Ghetsis even got himself a flying boat at some point, so I doubt there's a lack of research on the stuff.
  • The reason why cars, autoroutes, etc. are uncommon is probably because they're stupidly expensive. When the world is filled with creatures that can shoot massive lasers out of their eyes and punch people into subspace when perturbed, it would probably lead to a shit ton of property damage very fast. It's also probably why a lot of the smaller cities aren't even paved; it's not for a desire to be "traditional" or anything, it's because people don't think such advances are worth the effort.
  • I assume environmentalism is a factor that comes into play in a lot of discussions in the Pokemon universe. I also assume that these discussions rarely happen because of the whole "destroy an entire fleet of buses on command" thing that Pokemon have going on. You wouldn't need to discuss the dangers of opening car park if the car park would be destroyed in a week.
  • The rare instances where such environmental concerns happen is usually in places like coal plants, mines and factories, which are a necessity for humans to supply whatever they need. Usually, the solution to lowering the environmental impact of these places is just to use Pokemon/manpower in place of machines ot to just have a bunch of Galarian Weezing to purify the air.
  • Use of Pokemon-based labor is a matter of ethical debate in-universe.
  • Vehicles are usually reserved for specific industry purposes, or for places where use of Pokemon transport is not feasible.
  • The Pokemon world is high-tech and modernized (for the most part), but this moderity is seen mainly through personal use/handheld technology rather than massive developed infrastructure.
  • But boats/planes in particular are so common because oceans are wide, and nobody wants to risk their fish/bird collapsing from exhaustion when they're halfway across the Pacific Ocean.
Also updated the OP with the last 5-ish posts :wynaut:
