In the Tood: something something Pokemon

Just fyi, in my mind, all of the characters are insane.

05. father

In which Falkner and Janine learn that in other regions, there are some other characters with dads who are/were also gym leaders. They decide to secretly try and pit the dads against each other to see whose comes out on top.

None of them want to battle each other, so Falkner and Janine decide to use ninja surveillance tactics to try and deduce which of the fathers is superior. They proceed to spend a ridiculous amount of time documenting the battling strategies and daily routines of each one and attempt to try and deduce whose would win. Unfortunately, they realize aspects like type advantages, movesets, and variable party rosters would complicate things immensely. How they all trained their Pokemon was also different, too.

Ultimately, they realize that it doesn't matter whose dad is the best, because every one had something nice to offer and teach their children. Except maybe Giovanni or something. They decide to stop, acknowledging that they may have gone a bit overboard with this whole thing. At least they learned some neat battling techniques in the process?

Of course, they both still decide to rank their own dads as #1 and #2, but they still argue about whose dad is in which spot. Also, none of the other characters care even slightly about this, except them.

...This came about after I ended up counting more named dads/granddads in the games than moms/grandmas. I wonder why this is the case? Not just gym leaders, but in general too. Maybe I'm just missing a lot.

This reads like a really shitty fanfic or something.

--------

Also an addition to this:

01. AU where all the pokemon aren't real and they're just people in really bad cosplay fighting each other

-Roxanne with a fake nose and glasses.
-Brawly in one of those inflatable sumo outfits.
-Norman but he just gives trainers free badges because he's too tired to think of a good cosplay.

Maybe I'll attempt to actually draw this sometime.

06. Trainer Classes

I've been thinking of a mechanic I'd like to see in Pokemon some day: Trainer classes that mean something. In the games, trainer classes are only really cosmetic, and don't offer anything unique in battle. However, I like to believe that they have some potential that could be used in a future game or fangame.

As a start, I thought of a fan region in which the central city contains a school. The school isn't just like the small ones you see in the actual games, but is instead a large one dedicated to people of all ages, more like a college of sorts. All potential students, whether trainers or not, can attend the school and obtain certifications to become members of a certain class.

Unlocking classes depends on meeting certain requirements in-game, for example:
  • Youngster and Lass can be starting classes.
  • Breeder can be unlocked when the player successfully breeds and hatches X eggs
  • Nurse can be unlocked after using X amount of healing items on Pokemon
  • Baker/Cook can be unlocked after you give Pokemon X amount of food items (assume there is a food crafting mechanic in my mind game)
  • Ace Trainer requires all badges
  • Pokemaniac requires X amount of Pokemon owned and entered into the Pokedex
And so on.

Each of these classes would also give some kind of benefit in battle or on the overworld.
  • Starting class gives nothing
  • Breeder reduces egg hatching steps and raises chances of Pokemon from eggs to have higher stats upon hatching
  • Nurse can heal more when using items, and will cure all statuses automatically after battle
  • Cook can give food with higher beneficial effects (like make better poffins or Pokemon-amie style friendship cakes)
  • Ace Trainers get more EXP or something
  • Pokemaniac gets slightly boosted capture rates.

Aside from the school, gyms would also work as places to unlock certain type specialty classes as well. The gym leaders in the region all work as teachers/instructors of some kind in their home towns, and allow trainers that beat them to become pupils at their gyms. Typically, they will be type specialty classes, like beating a ghost gym = hex maniac unlocked. The type based classes would allow Pokemon of a certain type to have their power increased.

There could also be multiple classes for one type as well, and some others can specialize in more than one type. Their overworld abilities could also vary. Other classes like the ones I mentioned above can have no specialty at all.

As some more examples:
  • Swimmer: Specializes exclusively in water-types, and allows the player to cross water without Surf (obviously this would be available at some point after Surf is).
  • Sailor: Specializes in water and fighting-types, increases Surf speed.
  • Fisher: Specializes in water types, allows the player to more easily catch fish, and increases chances of finding rare Pokemon while fishing.
  • Aroma Lady/Lad: Specialises in Grass-types and Fairy-types, comes with a sweet-scent-like field move that attracts rare Pokemon to patches of grass.
  • Gardener: Grass-type specialist that can use Cut without need for the HM move
  • Farmer: Grass and Ground type specialist that allows the player to harvest more berries from berry trees
Obviously, with 18 types, it would be a bit ridiculous to have 3 classes each. Maybe they can be unlockable titles for the same class. Like after gaining X amount of experience as a water type specialist, you can unlock the Swimmer perk, then the Sailor and Fisherman perk after more level-ups.

To counter the beneficial battle effects the player has, NPC trainers will also get the same benefits in battle as the player does. So when you battle a Hex Maniac, all their ghost type Pokemon moves will be boosted. I'd like to think that gym leaders and other NPCs will also get advanced classes the player can't get, so the fights against them will be a bit more of a challenge.

For example:
  • A gym leader who is normal-type and is of the Doctor class may specialize in Pokemon that use a lot of HP recovery/drain moves. In-battle, these moves may have their effectiveness increased by 1.5x, because of the leader's affinity towards treating wounds. In addition, their Pokemon would also have a small chance of healing any status conditions during battle as well. Thus, the player would have to find a way of dealing with this during their fight. When the leader is beaten, the player would unlock the Nurse class, which would be a weaker version of the Doctor class in that it heals only 1.25x more and only cures status outside of battle.
  • A gym leader who uses water-types and is an Olympic-level Swimmer may have all water-type moves given priority during battle, due to the leader being fast in the water. Beating this leader grants the player the Swimmer class, which is a weaker version of the Gym Leader's class in that it only gives a temporary speed boost when a Pokemon uses a water-type move, but does not guarantee moving first.

I have no concept of balance in video games, so I don't know how broken some of this stuff would be in-game and online, so I'll ignore that for the time being.

07. Me as a Pokemon Trainer?

An attempt to imagine how I'd fit into the Pokemon World.
  • My main Pokemon would be an Oddish, because I like Oddish. I'd never evolve it, not because I like Oddish that much, but because Gloom and Vileplume are probably two of the absolute worst Pokemon to live with, period. Gloom smells awful, and Vileplume is apparently a walking pollen machine that will send me straight into the depths of allergy hell. I choose to ignore Bellossom's existence.
  • I wouldn't have many other Pokemon, mainly because I'm kind of lazy and would probably stay home playing video games and browsing 10 year old forum threads like I usually do. If I did have other Pokemon, they'd probably be ghosts. I like most ghost types, so that's probably why. They complement Oddish pretty nicely too, since Oddish are generally active at night. My Oddish will have an easier time making friends.
  • It's likely I would do battling as a side hobby, but as far as actual jobs go... I'd like to be a scientist. I'm stydying in the life sciences in school at the moment, so it's not like it'd be too off from my actual life, anyway. Pokemon are weird in the sense that they have such diverse body types, from animals to literal moving objects, that it would be amazing to see how their bodies function. The ones that seem like they'd be the coolest to study would be the man-made ones, would they be like robots, or would they have actual living cells somehow? What about microorganism Pokemon? Seeing how they can breathe fire or shoot water would be super fun as well.
  • There's no equivalent to where I live in the Pokemon world yet, so I guess there's not too much I can say about that. If I had to pick anywhere that does exist in the games, it'd probably be somewhere in Sinnoh. Johto is actually my favorite region, (nvm i definitely like Sinnoh more) but I like cold places and there's snow in Sinnoh, so yeah. I like Hearthome City so I'd be living there, I guess.
  • On the weekends I'll just make like a dozen bitter poffins and just enter back-to-back Normal Rank Smart contests for fun, because I can't be bothered to go for the higher ranks. Or I'll go underground and dig for Leaf Stones I'll never use. Maybe I'll just dig up a bunch of spheres for dolls and bookshelves or something instead, I don't know.
  • My npc dialogue:
"Did you know? The Pokemon Gloom has drool that smells absolutely horrendous! I'd hate to live with such an awful stench everywhere, so I gave my Oddish an Everstone so it wouldn't evolve! Actually, since I won't be getting a Gloom anytime soon, you can take this!"

(and then I give you a leaf stone i dug up from somewhere)
"You can evolve Gloom with a stone like that! There are lots of other Pokemon that evolve using stones, too! Try and find as many as you can!"
And then I'd just say that forever. I wouldn't even be a battleable npc.
As an aside, I hate the bullet list spacing. It's either no spacing between bullets or too much,

08. Pokemon First Impressions

This forum and the Serebii.net forum are some of my favorite places to lurk, because they're the only Pokemon forums (as far as I know) that have posts dating back from the pre-DS era. As someone who barely understood the concept of the Internet as DP was being announced for the first time, I find it extremely fun to explore old threads and see all the hype and reactions that I missed out on at the time. The whole thing really nostalgic to me for some reason, and seeing everyone whine or gush about the new Pokemon always makes me think back to my own first experiences with them, too.

These ones have always stood out to me the most...
  • For one, Shedinja is one of the two Pokemon that has ever legitimately terrified me. I never knew it existed until about a year after I first beat the game, and at first I thought it was fake because its evolution method just seemed ridiculous to me. When I evolved my Nincada to see if it was indeed real, I was absolutely blown away to see Shedinja in my party. Its Pokedex entry was the worst for me, because I absolutely loathe the idea of mummies and zombies, and Shedinja being a dead husk was close enough to that for me that I freaked out instantly. I had no idea how Wonder Guard worked either, so Shedinja having 1 HP and not taking damage made me think it was a glitch or something. The gaping death hole in its back didn't help me either.
  • Oddly enough, I had somehow also gotten the impression that the Hoenn version exclusives all evolved into each other, too. I distinctly remember having a Seviper, Volbeat, Lunatone, and a Plusle, all in my main team as a child, all because I expected them to evolve at some point. It was because I realized all the Pokemon in evolution lines were next to each other in the dex, so I thought it also applied to these guys. I also eventually realized that Zangoose came before Seviper, so I eventually just gave up on raising Seviper anymore and just tried to get my brother to evolve his Zangoose.
  • Getting into debates on whether the thing in the middle of Whismur's face was a nose or a mouth was a thing for me for a while. There was a movie short that had Pikachu and co. stuck in a tower with a musical stick, and there were three Whismur there that I'd just study whenever they were on screen. Also, when I evolved a Whismur for the first time, I saw Loudred's silhouette and thought it would turn into a teddy bear. Small me was extremely disappointed and just benched it out of pure hate for its design. The Whismur line is one of my favorites from Hoenn nowadays, so my hate apparently didn't last that long.
  • As far as fossils go, I feel strongly neutral about Bastiodon. For the longest time, I thought the yellow spots on its head were other eyes. I think I only realized otherwise when I saw some art of it somewhere. I read that its design is based on a wall/fortress or something, which is neat, but that would mean that the spots are like non-seethrough face windows instead, and that's still very odd to me. Either way, I don't hate it as much as I did when I first saw it. (unrelated, but the Sinnoh fossils come before the likes of Burmy or Pachirisu in the nat dex, and damn that's way earlier than I would have ever expected)
  • Thinking the spikes on the side of Gallade's head were a mouth until gen 6. Poor thing always seemed so confused until that point.
  • Cofagrigus is the second Pokemon that has successfully terrified me, for similar reasons as Shedinja. Again, my fear of mummies made me absolutely swear never to touch or use this thing as long as it existed. Aaaaaand then it somehow made it onto my team anyway during my White playthrough. Apparently my bias towards ghosts was stronger than my hate for mummies at that point. It's one of my favorites from Gen 5 now, without question.
  • Scrafty's mohawk reminded me of a chicken, and it still kind of does.

09. A Collection of Pokemon Top 3s because that's all I'm willing to do

In hindsight, this blog isn't really too odd, with exception of maybe post 1 and maybe 2 and 5. It's mostly just me going off about my thoughts about relatively minor things in Pokemon games. Aside from that, this entry is just going to be a reference for various top 3s of mine in Pokemon. I've decided on this because I'm bound to forget it all someday.

Top 3 Pokemon?
I tend to like entire evolution lines, so I'll list them.
  1. Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume: My first level 100 Pokemon was a Vileplume named Nerdone in Pokemon Sapphire. I taught it Cut, Return, Double-Edge, and Petal Dance since I was a clueless seven year old. I also had a tendency of catching every Oddish and Gloom I saw in the game, and I named them all Nerdone too. Each Nerdone had a letter or number after it so that I could tell each Nerdone apart.
  2. Binacle/Barbaracle: An unexpected favorite of mine. I didn't even catch my own Binacle until after the post-game of X, but I ended up really loving it. Its dex entry said that if one Binacle got angry at the other, it'd just leave to go to a different rock, and for some reason I find that really cute. It's also really ugly-cute, in my eyes. They're adorable in Pokemon-Amie. Barbaracle is awesome because it's just a bunch of barnacles and rocks mixed up to make a hand monster, which is a neat take on the multi-headed Pokemon.
  3. Drifloon/Drifblim: Its design is so simple and round, I just love it. It's been a main player for me in many playthroughs of Diamond, and in Black 2.

Bottom 3 Pokemon?
  1. Bellossom: Oddish, Gloom, and Vileplume look like they belong in the same evolution chain. They're blue. Oddish has leafs, Gloom had dead leafs and a bud, Vileplume has a full flower. Bellossom makes less sense to me. It has a skirt now. It has two head flowers. It's green. It's not Poison-type anymore. Like why? Especially that last part, give me back my poison STAB. Gamefreak could have maybe redeemed it a bit in my eyes by making it part Fairy or something but nooooooooo. It was also the only excuse for Oddish to be in Alola, and it didn't get in anyway. It's a hula dancer, for crying out loud. Or wait, it was in the game: as an overworld Bellossom in a hotel with no purpose other than to rub it in the faces of people like me. Oddish and any other of its evos didn't in either, why is it there at all?
  2. Landorus/Thundurus/Landorus: They're ugly and a bit too palette-swappy for me. The Therian forms are a lot better, but I don't see why they couldn't have looked like that from the start
  3. Lapras: My over-reliance on the Oddish line came back to haunt me when I played FireRed. Lorelei's kicked my ass enough for me to actively despise this thing now.

Favorite Games?
I hate favorite gens because I feel some people consider FRLG gen 1, others gen 3, same with HGSS and ORAS.

Either way: HGSS>DPPt>XY>BW2>RSE>ORAS>BW>USUM=SM>GSC>FRLG/RBY

No explanation because it's a bit complicated, I like each game for different reasons.
I like all the games too, so Kanto being last means mostly nothing.

Top 3 Rivals?
  1. Barry: Out of all the friendly rivals, he just seemed to click with me the most. I like his long-sleeved Platinum design, and the Tower Tycoon being his dad was a nice surprise. I need to name him Thudley in another playthrough one day.
  2. Silver: Being Giovanni's kid is an interesting twist, although I never technically saw the event myself because I never got Celebi. I get the most satisfaction of beating him because he's kind of an asshole.
  3. Wally: Seeing him catch his own Pokemon for the first time is really sweet. His fight in ORAS was one of the things I'd say ORAS improved on a lot in comparison to the originals. Brendan/May aren't too interesting, so I'm glad we got him as another Rival.

Top 3 Gym Leaders?
  1. Bugsy: I didn't know Johto existed for a while. I had a lot of book adaptations of anime episodes, and that's where I learned Johto was a thing. The first one I got was of the episode where Ash fought Bugsy, so I guess he just stuck with me since then. Bugsy also uses Scyther/Scizor as his ace, and that's my favorite bug, so that's another plus for me. His HGSS design is also really good.
  2. Valerie: Her design sticks out for very obvious reasons. It's weird. She's just really weird. She says she wants to be a Pokemon, gets distracted by shiny things, has bug-eyes... Her gym is my favorite in X and Y because it's in my favorite city inside of a big tree, and it's absolutely gorgeous. I like interacting with all the dollhouse furniture inside it. She also comes from Johto, and is frieds with some of my other favorite characters from gen 6, so that's a big plus in her favor as well!
  3. Jasmine: She seems so pure and kind. I like the contrast of having this quiet, delicate girl and a giant steel snake as her partner. Her being a rock-type specialist before a steel-type specialist is also a neat bit of lore that ties in with Onix going from rock to steel type upon evolution.

Top 3 Regions?

  1. Sinnoh: It's cold. It has my favorite character roster. It has my favorite evil team. It has my *second favorite city (Hearthome City). It has the Underground, contests, and my favorite Battle Frontier. Easily number one for me.
  2. Kalos: Has a lot of my favorite cities and towns in the series here, like Laverre City, Lumiose City, and Anistar city, among others. A lot of the routes are very diverse, and the very large Pokedex reflects it very well. I can say that I also do not dislike any of the Pokemon introduced in Kalos as well.
  3. Johto: The entire region seems calm because all the towns are so small. Ecruteak City is my favorite place in all the games, and honestly Johto ranks here pretty much only because of it. The Pokeathlon is super fun as well, and I would really like to see it again.

Stopping here because this is a pain to write on a phone. I might make a follow up later.

I honestly kinda relate to your hate of pokemon that you got wrecked by, I absolutely hate Miltank because of Whitney, but Lapras is a pretty cool pokemon

Yeah, there's definitely a few Pokemon I loathe purely out of spite. It kind of makes me feel bad sometimes :p. I almost put Bronzong on the list too for the same reason.

I really wanted to Ash's Lapras in the Orange Islands anime, but the memories of Lorelei just kept coming back!

Another fun fact about the Spaceworld Demo: Bellossom was going to keep the Poison-Type, and the evolution stone needed to evolve Gloom was even the Poison Stone, however, you should be glad we didn't get that version: its sprite fell too hard into the uncanny valley. Also, Bellossom was going to be purple like the rest of the Oddish line, but it was changed for reasons I don't know (you can still see that in the Sugimori artwork). In other words, half of your complaints were caused by changes mid-development. Oops.

I think a lot of people have PWSD: Post-Whitney Stress Disorder. Just ask anyone about her and tell how many of them answer with "that ****in' cow..." Doesn't help that the only Fighting-Type that you can get at that point in the game is a Machop from a trade. In my case, I had it worse, since my parents got me a bootleg Silver that had a pretty messy translation, so I didn't know what was the move that was destroying my whole team.

I can see why Spaceworld Bellossom wasn't used, those eyes stare deep into your soul.

I suppose Bellossom was made pure Grass to better distinguish it from Vileplume, but the removal of a type just seems like a weird choice to make. Also, Bellossom's shiny in Gen 2 is actually colored like the rest of the Oddish line as well: it has blue skin and orange leaves as a skirt, similar in color to the ones Gloom had on its head. That was changed to something completely different again in Gen 3.

I'm pretty sure my fight with Whitney is where I started using status moves for the first time. I couldn't beat her without them.

Same. I avoid those moves since for the main game they are mostly useless (like in 90% of RPGs). Whitney was the only time I had to use them in Pokémon.

10. Fossils

Got Marlon in Masters and he wasnt the fossil boy I wanted. I will now proceed to ramble about fossil pokes.

To be honest, I haven't used many in my game playthroughs. I used Aurorus in a romhack and Rampardos in my latest Diamond run. That's it. I think the idea of them are cool and I really wish they did more things with them in-game.

I'll start off with my personal ranking of them:

  1. Tyrantrum and Aurorus: They both look really good, and I think they've got interesting typing. Grant was probably the hardest gym leader in X/Y, so they stand out to me foe that reason too.
  2. Rampardos: I used it once. It was fine. Anything it touched died, but it also died to anything that hit it. I like its color scheme. They're apparently thought to have gone extinct because they're stupid, and that amuses me.
  3. Armaldo amd Lileep: Nevee used them but they look neat.
  4. Bastiodon: I mentioned it 2 entries ago, and I feel nothing towards it.
  5. Omastar and Kabutops: Eh. You get them way too far in the game for me to care.
  6. Aerodactyl: Another Pokemon I dislike out of spite. I hate fighting these things.
  7. Archaeops and Carracosta: The designs do nothing for me, and we've already seen their typings with the Kanto fossils.
Yeah not too interesting

Alright, so am I the only one who wants to see these guys get a third evolution stage (second in Aerodactyl's case)? I believe they all have stats around ~500 except for Archaeops for some reason, so idk how feasible it would be to implement worthwhile evolutions because any evolution seems like they would put them into pseudo BST range. I thought about a Mega-Like form or a Gigantamax form, but I'd honestly like to see a permanent third form instead.

I believe there was some implication at some point that the fossils probably look different than they did when they actually lived millions of years ago, and that's something I'd like to see explored in the games. I've seen speculation on whether the fossils were initially rock type, or whether it is a result of the DNA restoration process and they were different types to start. I like to think it's the latter, because it's more fun.

As far as my predictions on original typings go:

  • Aerodactyl: Dragon/Flying. Its mega was a dragon, right?
  • Kabutops: Bug/Water, because the scythes remind me of Scyther I guess.
  • Omastar: Also Bug/Water
  • Armaldo: Steel/Bug, because it's covered in armor
  • Lileep: Water/Grass, since it apparently lives near ocean shores.
  • Rampardos: Rock/Fighting maybe or Dragon? It probably keeps rock since its already monotype. It seems to just like headbutting things a lot.
  • Bastiodon Grass/Steel? It seems pretty chill and apparently lived in jungles...
  • Archaeops: Ground/Flying? No idea, but it can't fly very well, so...
  • Carracosta: Water/Steel
  • Tyrantrum: Dark or Fighting and Dragon. It's mentioned that they're kind of violent and spoiled, so why not?
  • Aurorus: Fairy/Ice

Maybe not evolutions, but more of a form change maybe.

I demand a dinosaur subplot or minigame. There was a guy in the last game who was thinking of making a jurassic park-type island, and I'd really like to see it in an actual game someday. I don't know what it would be like, maybe some survival type sidequest?

Maybe SwSh they'll add something like it, but I doubt it. It'd be a nice way to implement any form change or evolution for the fossils. There could be some kind of special stone or item that triggers it. Or put some dinosaurs into the Sinnoh Underground in the remakes, because I bet it'll get butchered in the remake anyway so why not. Like someone digs too deep and there's dinosaurs now

Eh

11. Misc. Thoughts About Pokemon Games

Things I just need to let out but I don't want to make another post for
  • As a kid, I imagined myself going through an adventure through Hoenn much like Ash did in the anime. My travelling companions were the two breeders on the route in front of the daycare (between Verdanturf and Mauville), and Wallace. Wallace is still my favorite champion (!) to this day because of it. My small child brain was absolutely shook when I saw he became champion in Emerald.
  • I always thought Canalave City was an island, but apparently it's part of mainland Sinnoh, you just take a water route to get there. Only realized after like 12 years
  • Nosepass's RS sprite has its leg up and for the longest time I thought that was a mouth and nosepass was just a weird humanoid head thing doing a "oooooo" face.
  • Spaceworld Falkner looks badass and they should have used him in the final version. He looks like an actual falconer with an actual bird.
  • Monster houses scared me as a poor child and I stopped playing PMD 1 because of it.
  • Lt. Surge's name is Major Bob in French and it sounds so stupid.
  • So if you strap Rolycolys to your feet and use them to skate around, does that make them coallerskates?
  • The series could use something like a sidequest mechanic where you do tasks like catch Pokemon or collect certain items in exchange for clothing/rare items/legendaries. It could be a good way of introducing legendaries into the region in ways other than "here's a wormhole/hoopa ring thing wow legendaries", as the quests may get other characters involved somehow. It could be a better way to bond with other characters too, by doing quests for or with them.
  • Sudowoodo is my favorite Pokemon name
  • Used to pronounce Rattata with an extra ta at the end. Used to also pronounce Dialga and Palkia as though they had extra a's after the l's.
  • First time playing Pokemon, I released the first few Pokemon I caught because I had no clue how to actually deposit them into the PC
  • Thought Glalie and Mawile were both part Dark type until Gen 6
  • Alternate universe where the Sinnoh Underground is just the name of a really popular minecraft server.
  • Pokerus is a virus right? What would actual pokemon bacteria do? Would they have elemental types too? Is them trying to fight actual pokemon what makes pokemon sick?
  • Juan's Emerald overworld sprite is just Steven with a beard and haircut. They made original sprites for the frontier brains and Scott, but not him?
  • Ok so we have so much fanart of pokemon as humans, but what about the humans as Pokemon? What would a brock be like? Which characters would be animals, which would be objects, which would be dual type...?
  • Favorite town themes are the driftveil and oreburgh city themes because i guess miners have good taste
  • Headcanon: the music is canon and the player is followwd around by a band offscreen that just plays all the music for you. Nobody asks about the weird men with trumpets following you in hoenn because they don't want to know.

My whole life is a lie.

Monster houses scared me as a poor child and I stopped playing PMD 1 because of it.
To tell the truth, those are pure paranoia fuel. Whoever invented them is a sadist.

We might get that, seeing how in USUM you can get sidequests. They just need to be fleshed out in the next games.

Lt. Surge's name is Major Bob in French and it sounds so stupid.
Maybe they wanted to name him Major Tom, but were afraid to get sued by David Bowie?

Kinda reminds how in Persona 3 and The World Ends with You it's implied that the music is canon, although it's because Makoto and Neku use music players.

My whole life is a lie.
I know, right? I feel so betrayed

To tell the truth, those are pure paranoia fuel. Whoever invented them is a sadist.
The worst is when you step on a warp tile and it puts you right into the middle of one and you can do nothing but die since you cant run and your partner is on the other side of the map.

According to Bulbapedia, it's because Bob is apparently a generic American name. It sounds weird though, why not Robert or some electricity-related pun instead?

No, the worse is when you start in the same room as the monster house. I remember that happening in Blue Rescue Team making certain dungeons horribly annoying.

Ohh no I forgot that was a thing that can happen, that's definitely worse.

Some entire floors in Mystery Dungeon are even designated as Monster Houses. Although they're usually more manageable because you're not surrounded immediately.

My travelling companions were the two breeders on the route in front of the daycare (between Verdanturf and Mauville), and Wallace.
Those two are the best. I mean, I rebattle all of the 5 rematchable trainers on that route, but those two with their full teams of 6 different Pokemon - so useful.
IIRC... Lydia - "Allow me to reevaluate if you have raised your Pokemon properly."
Isaac - "The Pokemon I've been raising are looking good, just like before."

I don't remember why I got so attached to these two, but this was probably it. I think I even memorized both their teams at some point.

Places where rematcheable trainers are abundant are always the best places for me in the games.
