Found it today on a fresh TV tropes edit and thought it might be useful and appreciated by you guys. Credit to TV troper 'BlastVision'

Ash's two unevolved Sinnoh Pokemon (Buizel and Gible) are the only two that didn't have any major significance to the Ash/Paul rivalry: Staraptor actually kickstarted it when the two argued over how they caught their Starly, Torterra was Ash's main player before he caught Chimchar and received mentorship from Paul's own Torterra, Infernape probably doesn't need much explanation, and Gliscor stuck out as TheLoad of Ash's team before it evolved (playing into Paul's belief that it's not worth trying to train a weaker Pokemon over a stronger one). While Buizel did battle against Paul, it never had anything specific to prove against him, and Gible simply didn't battle Paul at all.

And Pikachu also had an part, because it had an rivalry against Paul's Electivire ever since it it was an Elekid. Technically speaking I think it sorta of got solved when they stopped Team Galactic together in that one ep, and both just were part of Ash VS Paul rivalry afterwards tho.

To add onto this, while Pikachu's rivalry with Raichu is more emphasized and famous, he also had a rivalry going on with the Electabuzz family, and this one was arguably a bigger deal, since unlike Raichu, Pikachu could never seem to defeat a member of the Electabuzz family until the Gym Battle with Volkner, which to date is the only time he's scored a win against a member of the Electabuzz family. All other times? He got swept.

I also would like to say something about the rivalry with Paul because while not exactly the point of the thread, there's something interesting to take note about it: just like nearly every main rival Ash has had, Paul had a tendency to defeat Ash, and Ash didn't win a battle against him until the League. Some people understandably found this annoying because the main fuel for the rivalry between these two was their contrasting philosophies when it comes to training Pokemon: Paul discards any Pokemon that doesn't live up to his high standards while Ash believes that with enough time and care any Pokemon can be strong. When you think about it, though, it makes sense that Paul would beat Ash so much at first because he's working exclusively with Pokemon that are already naturally strong, while Ash makes do with whatever fate bestows on him. Both methods do in fact net the same results in the long run, it's just that Ash is in a way taking the longer road, so of course the situation is going to seem lopsided at first. To look at the rivalry from the games' perspective, Paul is doing the "breed/search for the perfect IVs/Natures" method, which already has maxed out Pokemon from the get-go, while Ash is doing the "wait till we can use Bottle Caps/Mints" method, which isn't going to work until a Pokemon is at level 100, and thus requires more time and patience to pull off in a way.
