What exactly did they mean by that? It was also said after the roll call for all gens, and this is the 20th anniversary games. So? Does it relate to the story? Region? Or does it have to do with the transferring of gen 1 Pokemon to Sun and Moon?

During the trailer they mention various aspects of the Pokemon games. Collect, trade, battle, connect. I assumed they meant all those aspects come together in the new games. I guess only time will tell.

The excited fanboy deep inside of me wants this to mean that my wildest dream has come true and we are finally getting our "poke-earth" game with multiple regions, badge sets, etc. The realist in me thinks that this will just mean that there will be references/features throughout the games to previous generations and regions.

I think there will be some important elements from each generation. Hopefully nothing forced without context, unlike the way XY handled the Kanto starters and legendaries.

Yeah, I was just thinking about this. I'm all for acknowledging the other regions and I think that they will, but I don't want it to be so submersed in references that it compromises this region's own identity.

I don't think that the Kanto references compromised Kalos' identity. The way they just shoved Mewtwo into a cave and gave it two Mega Evolutions was simply lazy.
