JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles announces Pokémon × Kogei artist talk webinars, Detective Pikachu screening to complement Pokémon-themed art exhibition

As reported earlier this summer, JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles, the international art gallery, is currently hosting the Pokémon × Kogei: Playful Encounters of Art and Japanese Craft exhibition, a collection of dozens of Pokémon-themed artworks in traditional Japanese mediums. The gallery has recently announced a series of events to accompany the exhibition, which is scheduled to run until January 7th, 2024.

Three artist talks, each featuring two artists whose work is being shown in the Pokémon × Kogei exhibition, have been scheduled throughout the fall as webinars. Registration for each of these virtual events is open now.

Artists Keiko Masumoto, who contributes fire-type Pokémon integrated into Shigaraki ware, a type of pottery, and Toru Fukuda, whose intricate inlaid woodwork pieces feature Pokémon with wings, give insight into their work.

Artists for this webinar are Taiichiro Yoshida, a metalworker who created Eevee and its original three evolutions, and Terumasa Ikeda, who contributes some more abstract pieces using raden, a technique using iridescent shells.

Artists Haruo Mitsuta, who created an articulated metal Gyarados, and Yuki Tsuboshima, contributor of a metal ornament which can transform between Rookidee and Corviknight, feature in the final webinar.

The gallery has also partnered with Ovation Hollywood to offer a screening of the 2019 film Detective Pikachu, scheduled for this coming Friday, August 25th. This community event will also include free popcorn, raffle prizes, lawn games, and crafts. The series of artist talks and the movie screening are all free events, as is entry to the Pokémon × Kogei exhibition.
