Gengar and Dragonite have gone without battles even longer, though. And Lucario has gone without trainer battles for roughly the same amount of time, since his last fight against a trainer was also the Rose battle. And let's not even get started on poor Dracovish.

TL; DR, Pikachu's not the only neglected soul here. Pikachu's gone without trainer battles because trainer battles in general have been extremely scarce as of late.

I wasn’t neglecting the rest of the squad, but simply mentioning how bizarre it is for the literal mascot, who probably battled at most every nine episodes in other seasons, have one in the space of a six-seven months.
