I did for the first time in like 6 months or more, but I was only half paying attention. It was another episode based in Vermillion City about a Kanto Pokemon that has had multiple other episodes in the past, so it didn't have much to offer to retain my interest. The Kirby boss part was kind of cool I guess, but they really haven't done enough with Renji prior to this to make me interested in him. At least they gave Kikuna a few scenes and the eating contest episodes before to drop hints of her personality leading up to her episode with Koharu, but Renji might as well have been a character of the day despite being a recurring cast member. The aerial shots of Vemilion City were kind of cool and it was nice to see Goh's Flygon doing something. It's not that it was a particularly bad episode or anything, but it followed the standard 'help the COTD' plot with Pokemon and locations we've seen plenty of times before. It might be better with subtitles for Renji's backstory segments, but I can't see myself seeking this out again until it ends up on TV or my DVD shelf. Or unless Renji does something interesting in the future and I decide to come back and check out his backstory, but I don't imagine that's very likely with how this series likes to handle things. So no one watched this live huh…
I did. There's just not much to say about this one. Aside from maybe that Magnemite fusion with a giant eye...So no one watched this live huh…
So I'm not the only one who seemed to noticed the puzzling transitions throughout this episode, nice to knowI wonder how many of Gary's extra pikachu Ash's Pikachu had to eat to get enough power to blast apart the hundreds of magnemite that made up that swarm
What a nothing episode to come back to, and very unpolished to boot, like with that weird freeze on Cinderace for several seconds before they realized they weren't actually going to animate anything beyond that and awkwardly transitioned away
While it was for from the most exciting episode ever, I thought it was a necessary episode that fleshed out a recurring character who still needed a backstory. Chrysa had her backstory episode last year, now it was Ren's turn.I’m so glad we finally learned how that one guy, who I suppose is a character on the show, met his Magnemite.
I love episodes in Vermillion city focusing on over-exposed Kanto Pokémon doing something unspecific and vague, with epic music played in the background only to further highlight how I don’t know what’s happening.
Chrysa's had the advantage of being good. It served as a look into her private life and gave Koharu some development on the side, making it fresh and unique. This episode on the other hand was the same basic 'help the cotd' episode we've all seen hundreds of times before. The backstory for Renji was good to get, but I would have liked to have seen it attached to a more unique and interesting episode like the Chrysa one was. While it was for from the most exciting episode ever, I thought it was a necessary episode that fleshed out a recurring character who still needed a backstory.
